Berbary receives a 5yr extension

Recommended Posts

Indiana University Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Fred Glass announced that women's soccer head coach Amy Berbary has signed a 5-year contract extension that runs through the end of the 2018 season.

Berbary, who will be entering her second year as the Hoosiers head coach in 2014, guided Indiana to its first appearance in the Big Ten and NCAA Tournaments since 2007. The team advanced to the semifinals of the Big Ten Tournament and then defeated DePaul at Bill Armstrong Stadium in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

The Hoosiers set single-season school records in wins (15), goals (43), assists (46) and shutouts (9) during the 2013 season. Lisa Nouanesengsy was the fourth player in program history to receive First Team All-Region and was also named Second Team All-Big Ten, helping IU to six victories in conference play and the fourth seed in the conference tournament after being picked to finish last in the preseason coaches poll.

The team had 17 players recognized on the Academic All-Big Ten team in 2013 and saw Rebecca Dreher and Shannon Flower named First Team Academic All-District.

Indiana women's soccer head coach Amy Berbary announced that Molly Pittman (Carmel, Ind./Carmel HS) has transferred to Indiana University and will be eligible to play starting with the 2014 season. Pittman was a Second Team All-Southern Conference player last year while playing at Samford University.

"Molly is a tremendous player with great character, that comes from a great family," Berbary said. "We are thrilled to have her join our program and look forward to what she is able to bring to Indiana University on and off the field."

Pittman played in all 21 games last year for Samford, making 20 starts on her way to receiving Second Team All-SoCon and All-Freshman Team honors from the conference as a defender. She picked up two assists on the season as the Bulldogs finished with a 13-6-2 overall record and a 5-3-2 mark in SoCon play. She was an instrumental part of a backline that only allowed 24 goals and accumulated seven shutouts during the 2013 season.

The Carmel, Ind., native graduated from Carmel High School early and enrolled at Samford in the Spring of 2013 after garnering first team all-state accolades. She was ranked in the top 15 of the Great Lakes Region by Top Drawer Soccer and the 29th best defender in the country by IMG Academy coming out of high school. In addition to attending the United State Club Soccer National Camp for three years, she was also a three-time member of the Indiana ODP state team and ODP Regional A Pool player.

Pittman is the daughter of Steve and Shelly Pittman, with her father playing collegiate tennis at the University of Arizona. She intends to major in Exercise Science.
