Water Polo Completes the Fluid Five Sweep

With the 16-4 win over Gannon, Indiana swept their four games in the Fluid Five Invitational. The Hoosiers got on the board early and often on their way to scoring a season-high 16 goals. Indiana now holds a record of 15-5.

The Hoosiers exploded for six goals in the first frame.  Candyce Schroeder scored first just 18 seconds into the game.  She added her second goal midway through the quarter.  Kate Pipkin also scored two goals in the first five minutes of action.  Sarah Myers, who won her only sprint attempt, scored a goal on a lob shot.  Emily Lowe closed out the quarter for the Hoosiers with a goal of her own, making the score 6-0.

Kaybree Albright scored within the first 30 seconds of the second quarter to continue the offensive onslaught.  Sarah Young followed that goal with a goal of her own just one minute later.  Less than a minute after that Jordan Elwood got in on the action with a goal.  Myers added her second goal of the contest with two minutes left in the half.  Once again, Lowe closed out the quarter with a bang, scoring her second goal with six seconds left on the clock to push the lead to 11-1.

Schroeder secured a hat trick with her third quarter goal.  Mackenzie Rosenthal scored her second career goal with just under four minutes to go.  Karrie Kozokar scored less than a minute later for her first goal of the game.  Elwood scored her second goal of the match with just under two minutes remaining in the third to extend the lead to 15-2.
The lone Hoosier goal in the fourth frame came from Young, her second of the game.

Mary Campbell started the game and played the entire first half.  He surrendered just one goal while making ten saves.  MacKenzie Bonk relieved Campbell at the half and made six saves while allowing three goals.

The Hoosiers will be back in action April 2 when they host the Michigan Wolverines.  The opening sprint will take place at 11:00AM.

Michigan is ranked 5th.

Hoosiers End Regular Season With Wins Over Bucknell, Hartwick

The Hoosiers (21-6, 6-1) earned a second-place finish and the second seed in the upcoming CWPA Tournament after their flying finish to the year.

The Hoosiers have been playing as a cohesive unit all year, but their formula for success has paid dividends down the final stretch. Indiana has won 18 of their last 20 games, and haven't lost two games in a row since their 0-2 start to the year at Arizona State. Their 6-1 record through the CWPA schedule has given them an advantageous path to the CWPA Championship, where the winner advances to the 2016 NCAA Tournament.

- Ranked #13 as of 4/13/16. Updated rankings should be out Tuesday or Wednesday.

Hoosiers Advance to CWPA Title With Overtime Win

Two times during the regular season, the Indiana water polo team played games that extended to overtime. The Hoosiers came up short of a win in both games, but they gained valuable experience in playing under pressure.

On Saturday, Indiana (23-6) applied that experience to pull out a 12-11 overtime win over sixth-seeded Hartwick (16-13) in the CWPA Semifinals.

Indiana and Hartwick were tied at seven goals apiece midway through the fourth quarter, when the No. 21 Hawks slotted two quick goals to take the lead with three minutes remaining. The Hoosiers regrouped and tied the game with two scores on back-to-back possessions, both with a power play advantage.

Candyce Schroeder garnered player of the game honors from the CWPA after scoring a hat trick, her 11th of the year. Schroeder tallied two scores in the second quarter along with the overtime-forcing goal in the final period.

Kelly Matthews delivered a clutch performance down the stretch for Indiana. The sophomore assisted on the first score of Indiana's comeback, and scored her only two goals of the game in overtime.

Jennifer Beadle continued her white-hot run through the tournament with her second hat trick in as many games. The Pleasanton, California native added two assists in the fourth quarter and in overtime, and she has looked like one of the outstanding players in this year's CWPA Tournament.

Other valuable attacking performances include Kate Pipkin, who added two goals and two assists to the winning effort, and Sarah Young, who contributed with a pair of goals in the fourth quarter and overtime. Young's goal with 1:27 remaining in the second overtime period proved to be the difference-maker for Indiana.

Sarah Myers added two assists and battled for five sprint wins in a well-rounded outing. The Toronto, Ontario native shared the Hoosiers' leaderboard in steals, despite playing the final 20 minutes of the game with two ejections.

Mary Campbell continued her high performance between the post with 11 saves, including seven saves between the fourth quarter and overtime. The senior delivered at a crucial juncture, midway through the third quarter, when Campbell blocked a five-meter penalty shot. It's the 14th time this season that Campbell has made 10 or more saves in a game.

A Seasoned Season
The Hoosiers are back in the water with one of the most experienced groups in recent memory. They return all seven of their starters from last year, a group that combined for 253 of IU's 286 goals in 2017.

Six players enter the season with at least two years in the starting lineup, while Jessica Gaudreault, Sarah Myers, and Kelly Matthews begin their fourth season as starters for Indiana.

All-American Prospects
Amongst the Hoosiers back in 2018 are two honorable mention All-Americans from last season, Kelly Matthews and Mollie Williams. Matthews is a three-time All-American with at least 60 goals and 25 assists in each of her three seasons; Williams joined the team two weeks before the start of last season to provide 42 goals, 27 assists, and a team-leading 46 steals. The pair combined for 15 hat tricks in the Hoosiers' 31 games.

Fluid Five
Leading the way for the Hoosiers this season will be their deeply talented five-woman senior class. Jessica Gaudreault (697 saves, 4th IU history) is on pace to become one of IU's all-time greats between the posts. In front of her are Kelly Matthews and Sarah Myers, two of Indiana's top field defenders and most potent creators on the other end. Jennifer Beadle and Sarah Young round out the group, as they look to build from breakout seasons in 2017.

Matthews (207 goals) is chasing history and three seniors are on the cusp of crossing the century mark on their career goal totals. The class has earned five All-Conference honors in three seasons.
