Kj's replacement

Recommended Posts

Not up to speed on rules- with adding one to replace KJ, are we at the max # for asst. coaches?  Is there a max #?  Are there recruiting specialists that aren't coaches (other that WWW for UK)?

That would make Duke corrupt right along with every other program that Simeon has sent players too.

It doesn't have to be a Calipari type hire but it needs to be a hire that anger us into a huge recruiting hotbed. Chicago, DMV, NYC.

That's why I said a coach that has ties to the IN HS/AAU scene, we are in the heart of a recruiting hot bed.

I think you get an assistant that complements the head coach and rest if the staff. (I know this seems obvious)

As an overall staff you need to have a good guard coach, wing coach, big man coach, a solid recruiter, and an excellent X's and O's guy. You cannot just be able to do one thing though, so some overlap is needed. A mix of old and new is good too with a head coach that utilizes their strengths and helps to develop their weaknesses.

Coach Crean is a solid recruiter and a good developer of wings. I'm not sure what the others are responsible for but there's no question we could benefit from a big man coach and a strong X's and O's bench coach.

With all that said and all the guards and wings we have, I would like to see Darrin Horn hired. He has worked with coach Crean before with some success. If another position opens up I would like to see an Indiana guy who develops bigs to be hired.

Not sure how long it usually takes to replace an assistant coach... Do any of you all remember when a replacement was found last time around? (when KJ was hired).

Idk who brought his name up first but Jared Jeffries seems like a good fit for multiple reasons. Don't know if he or Crean either one are interested in him filling the position but here are some reasons I like the idea:

- former IU player, familiar with the environment
- recently played in the NBA and had a fairly lengthy career
- experience in an NBA scouting role (just heard that here, not sure if true but if so it's a great reason)
- big man, would have fit Crean's system perfectly
- makes IU look even more family oriented if a guy who has been away from IU for more than 10 yrs and didn't even play for Crean, is welcomed back and placed on staff

Didn't he come back for a game earlier this year? Maybe some ties made with Crean then, that could make this a possibility.

I just want everyone to know that these two names were suggested for KJ's replacement on the Facebook page:

- Tom Crean (I really don't know how that would be possible. Can he be an assistant and the head coach? I guess we could try...)

- Mike Davis (I don't understand how people's minds function in this manner.)

Bonus: Another Brad Stevens mention.

Wow.  Did you feel as though you'd lost some of your intelligence after reading that nonsense?

My two cents is for Rick Brunson. Former NBA player, college coach...has made it be known he wants back in. Besides his son (5 star Jalen Brunson) he is young enough to relate, has the experience at all levels....and is one of the most connected Chicagoland guys.

I'm surprised there's not more buzz around him (not just for IU, but anywhere). Former NBA player and coach, has college experience as well, and he has the clear inside track on one of the best players in the class of 2015. How are other schools going to out-recruit Jalen's DAD?!

I like the idea. My only concern is lack of connection to Indiana, not because of the reasons people usually give--I don't care about that--but because it's going to look awfully suspicious when we bring him and his son in. I don't want to be the next Kentucky except in tournament record.

Been advocating on Premium sites...now I'll take it public as well. Collins was trying to lure him to Northwestern last year when he was hired. To me this is a no brainer.

Image concerns are my least concern. Honestly our image right now is a blueblood hanging on for dear life. Kansas would make this move. We all know Kentucky would.

Zeke, Daryl Thomas, Buckner even Eric Anderson...all former IU and Chicagoland stars. Make it happen Coach Crean....make him say no thanks.
