He's right though, in Michigan A is the highest class.  A through D, highest to lowest.

  • Class A: 893 and above
  • Class B: 429-892
  • Class C: 207-428
  • Class D: 206 and below

If guess he won't have to. The 2014 NCAA Championship will do that for him

For you sabremetrics geeks, I found Yante Maten's PER (Performance Efficiency Rating) from last summer's EBYL AAU league.

He was playing against the big boys, and he fared extremely well. (btw, Trey Lyles sucked eggs).

See the linky:

Rob Johnson didn't do so well either.

Neither did Josh Cunningham.

FWIW, there were 271 players who played at least 200 minutes and were therein eligible to be graded. Trey Lyles, as a top ten five star, graded out at 64th.

How did our IU recruits do?

JB2: 34th

RoJo: 80th

And our hopefuls?

Yante Maten: 20th

Josh Cunningham: 97th

My general point remains that Yante Maten's credentials against high-level competition have been a bit of a mystery, and that this is empirical evidence that when he's out there with the big boys he's more than capable of holding his own.

Do they have this analysis for previous years? It would be interesting to see what guys like Troy, Yogi, Noah, Cody, etc. all did on a PER basis.

I hope he has been introduced to Je'nay Jackson this weekend.

What I would love to know about this kid is, what kind of motor does he have?  I think sometimes height can be overrated.  I don't want to start a team full of 6'4"-6'5" guys, but I'd rather have some 6'7"-6'-8" guys who have a motor and know how to fight for and get position and have a junkyard dog mentality (I'm looking your way Devin Davis, you see what I just wrote?)  than some 6'10"-6'11" kid who doesn't have a high revving motor and gets pushed around.

If this kid has a motor, I hope we get him.  That's all I really want right now.  I want guys with some fight.  Does he have this?
