2014 Class Ranking

Recommended Posts

Just a quick look at Rivals, shows that IU's class is now ranked 36th (after Gooch), separated from #35 Mizzou by just 10 points, and Mizzou has 3 more commits. This puts IU's class right there in the neighborhood of Baylor, Wisky, Arkansas, Nebraska, Pitt, Miss St.

Scout is still showing Smith as a commit, but hasn't got Gooch up yet. IU at 41st there, and there is a significant difference between IU and Mizzou on this one.

247 still showing Walker and Smith as commits, and has the class ranked at 47th. Just throwing all that out there for kicks.

Interesting point is that the NCAA is supposed to have established a hard 25 player class this year. No oversigning or such. There are still a number of schools who have more than that. Tennessee has 33 commits. If the NCAA makes it stick, there will be some reshuffling of the deck when it comes to class rankings.

I might be wrong (certainly wouldn't be the first time), but I think the NCAA still allows schools to count scholarships back for mid-year enrollees. So if you only brought 20 kids in the previous year, give out 30 scholarships this year, and 5 kids enroll in January then you're good. I believe IU gave a few scholarships to walkons last season, plus the 20ish kids that joined the program so that's why we're locked in at 25.

Like I said, I may be 100% wrong on this, but I read it somewhere on the interwebs

Yeah, wish I could remember where I read about the 25 hard limit. I think they had also addressed that point. Even then, I thought there were some limitations on how many could be applied to the previous year. 3 was what I was thinking. I could probably look it up but am too tired to read through NCAA legalese.

ESPN had us at 11th in the B1G on their signing day special. I thought that was a tad low.

ESPNsInsider gave us a "C" for the class which is about on par w/the above ranking....it put us in the bottom half.  But I do agree, 10 is a bit low.

How about little brother to the north almost sweeping the 14th spot!

Yeah, then I watched the BTN football report and the guys (Dinardo included) were going crazy about some of Purdue's recruits and we got about 3 minutes of air time. I just don't understand how all the different recruiting services differ so much.

I recorded the 1 1/2 BTN football report and we got 4 mins right at the end.  It was effing ridiculous.  At least I was able to fast forward and not waste 83 mins!

Haha I did the exact same thing. I watched Jibril Peppers' highlight video (that guy is insane) then skipped all the way to us at the end.

Upper 30s I believe.

A 90 minute show and IU get's shy of 4 minutes.  Bleh.

Yeah, for the most part Dinardo is the only one I'd pay much attention to. At least as a former coach he knew something about what he was looking for. He was very high on Diamont and how he would fit into the IU system. I think there is a good chance that this class outperforms recruiting services expectations. Last years may too, but the rankings for some of those players set pretty high expectations for that class. I look for next years class to be another one focused on locking up Indiana high school talent, as it looks like there might be a real wealth of talent in-state.
