Recommended Posts

Indiana University head men's soccer coach Todd Yeagleyannounced today that midfielder Matt Foldesy, goalkeeper William Lukowski, midfielder Jack Griffith and midfielder Michael Riedford have joined the program for the spring semester.

"We are very excited to add four outstanding young men to our soccer program this spring," Yeagley said. "Matt and Will have transferred into our program after spending time at two very strong soccer programs. Will, an outstanding goalkeeper, is coming off an undefeated and National Championship season at Iowa Western. Will's championship experience and presence in goal will help strengthen our goalkeeper position. Matt joins us from Akron and will immediately help our team with his versatility, range and toughness. Matt will play a large role in helping to fill vital roles in midfield after losing Harrison PettsA.J. Corrado and Nikita Kotlov to graduation."

Foldesy, who will begin his junior season this fall, comes to IU from Akron where he spent two seasons, earning Mid-American Conference titles in 2012 and 2013. Foldesy appeared in 18 games for the Zips in 2013 with 10 starts and tallied assists in wins over College of Charleston and Michigan. He appeared in four matches as a freshman.

Hailing from St. Ignatius High School, the North Olmsted, Ohio native was the Ohio Player of the Year as a senior, earning All-America honors. He played his club ball with the Cleveland Internationals, earning two state championships and one national title during his playing days. Foldesy was a high school teammate of current Hoosier Zach Martinspacer.gif

Lukowski, who will also be a junior this fall, comes to Indiana with national championship pedigree as he led Iowa Western Community College to the 2013 NJCAA Division I title this past November. Lukowski started 23 matches for the Reivers, playing 2031 minutes with 49 saves and a 0.31 GAA. He led NJCAA Division I in wins (22), shutouts (16) and GAA. He was 10-0 in conference play with nine shutouts and zero goals allowed. His career record in goal was 42-0-1.

In the title game, Lukowski had three penalty kick stops in a 3-1 shootout (1-1) win over Tyler Junior College as IWCC finished with a 25-0 record. He was an NJCAA All-American and first-team NSCAA All-American, while also earning NSCAA Men's Scholar All-America status. Lukowski is from Greenwood, Mo., where he attended Lee's Summit High School.

Griffith (Danville, Ind.) tallied 30 goals and 16 assists during his four-year career at Brownsburg High School. He was a two-time first-team all-state honoree (2012, 2013) as well as a two-time NSCAA All-Region selection (2012, 2013). Griffith earned first-team all-district and first-team all-conference accolades as a sophomore, junior and senior, and was team captain his final two seasons.

Riedford (Evansville, Ind.) put up 36 goals and 10 assists his senior season at Reitz Memorial High School, leading the squad to an 18-2-5 record and a Class 2A semi state appearance. He was a 2013 NSCAA All-Region pick and named the Evansville Courier & Press Player of the Year. Riedford was also a first-team all-state honoree. In 87 career matches, Riedford finishes his high school career with 66 starts, 68 goals and 47 assists.

"Both Michael and Jack graduated from high school in December in order to enroll and begin their college career at IU. Having Michael and Jack join us a semester early will enable them to quickly acclimate into our program and adjust to the academic and athletic demands in college. We are committed to bringing the finest young talent from our home state to IU. Michael and Jack were standout youth and High School players from Evansville and Brownsburg.

"We welcome Michael, Jack, Matt and Will to our IU Soccer family."

May 30, 2014 - Indiana University head men's soccer coach Todd Yeagley announced today that defender Phil Fives (Pittsburgh, Pa.) will join the program starting this fall for his junior season.

"We are very happy to have Phil join our team," Yeagley said. "Phil is a very technical player who can play in midfield or as an outside back. His two years of college experience will be important to help our team fill key roles lost to graduation. His positive attitude and hard working mentality fits in very well with our returning squad."

Fives comes to Indiana from Akron where he appeared in 16 matches over his first two seasons. As a freshman he made nine appearances with four starts, recording assists against USF and Hartwick, while notching his first career goal at Northern Illinois.

As a sophomore in 2013 he played in seven matches, including postseason contests vs. West Virginia, Western Michigan and Marquette.

Hailing from North Allegheny High School in Pittsburgh, Fives earned all-state honors as a senior with 11 goals and 18 assists. He was named MVP of the WPIAL all-star game and played club soccer with the Cleveland Internationals.

Why can he play right away? Does soccer not have sit out rules or did he have some exception. I figured since he had two years left he did not graduate yet.
