Hoosiers ranked 46th in the AWP poll. Hopefully these different weight classes benefit Walsh and Sheridan to make it to the podium this year. It will be interesting how much of an impact Weaver and Danishek have. Our team is looking pretty thin this year. Need some other folks to step up.

Projected Lineup ('14 D1 Record)
125: Chris Caton (7-17)
133: Joe Duca (8-9)
141: Cole Weaver (FR)
149: Jake Danishek (FR)
157: Eric Roach (14-15)/Alex Gregory (6-7)
165: #12 Taylor Walsh (31-7)
174: Nate Jackson (5-8)
184: Matt Irick (4-18)
197: #14 Luke Sheridan (24-16)
285: Garret Goldman (8-18)

Key Returners: While the Hoosiers will undoubtedly be a better tournament team than a dual team, they still return two heavy hitters from last year's squad.  Up a weight to 165 will be Taylor Walsh.
Walsh has proven to be maybe the most dangerous matchup in the nation, as he registered 26 falls a season ago. He has been lights out in the regular season but will need to improve upon past March disappointment to make the podium.  Another guy moving up in Luke Sheridan, from 184 to 197.  He made some noise at the University Freestyle Nationals this offseason where he shocked everyone by sticking NCAA Champ J'Den Cox in less than a minute.  I'm not sure if that influenced his decision to move up or not, but look for him to have a breakout year for IU.

Key Additions: Following the mass exodus of nearly every 141 and 149 pounder from the roster, Indiana was left with few options at those weights.  They'll be relying on blue-chip recruits Cole Weaver and Jake Danishek to step in and compete right away.  While the Big 10 is perennially loaded at these weights, both these guys have the high school credentials to make some noise.  Weaver was a 3x MI State Champ and Double Cadet Finalist, while Danishek was a 4x OH State Champ, Ironman and Super32 Champ.

X-Factors: Eric Roach is a guy who has found success in the Hoosier lineup in his career, and with the move up to 157, he'll look to carry on that success.  Tough 157 is a very tough weight, he could definitely be a sleeper who makes the national tournament and knocks off top guys throughout the season. Additionally, Joe Duca- an NCAA Qualifier two years ago- will look to regain form up a weight at 133.  He moved up late last season but found little success.  If he fills out to a full size 133 pounder, he'll be a threat and a much needed spark for their lowerweights.

1932 national champions. National runner-ups in 1934 and 1940. Why did this program fall off the map? Was it WWII related? I just find it odd that a national power like that just fell off the map, especially with how big wrestling has been in the Big10 (and midwest), particularly in the last 40 years with Iowa and Penn State being the premier programs. Many of the other big programs from back in IU's glory days kept their footing, so why did IU fall off the map? (I know there have been some individual NCAA champions since then, but I'm talking from a team perspective).

I think a lot of kids went to war and schools condensed programs to a select few they would fully financially support.

After the war kids came back but funding was bare. We focused a lot in basketball and well there u have it.

Walsh strikes again and Jackson joins him. Nice work guys!  :good:

Taylor Walsh (165) - Champion/Outstanding Wrestler
Nate Jackson (174) - Champion
Luke Sheridan (197) - 3rd Place
Matt Irick (184) - 4th Place

The Hoosiers left Philadelphia with two Keystone Classic champions -- redshirt senior Taylor Walsh (165) and redshirt sopomore Nate Jackson (174) were undefeated on the day. Walsh also brought home Oustanding Wrestler and most falls (four) for the classic.

Walsh entered the day with 99 career wins at Indiana, so after a first round pin in just 49 seconds, he joined the 100 win club. He added to his all-time IU leading pin record by reeling off three falls in as many bouts. In the semifinals, Walsh, who is ranked 12th in the 165 pound weight class, was matched-up against 14th ranked Wilson (Stanford). To earn his only decision of the season, Walsh won 5-1 to advance to the championship bout against fourth ranked Harger (Northwestern). Staying true to form, Walsh defeated Harger by pin in only 1 minute and 28 seconds to earn the Keystone Classic championship and a season record of 10-0 (8 pins).

In the 174 pound weight class, Nate Jackson added a second Keystone Classic championship for the Hoosiers. He did so by winning handily in all four of his matches. He outscored his opponents 41-19 in the first three rounds, earning major decisions in each bout. In the finals, Jackson faced 11th ranked Subjeck of Stanford, which he won with a 17-11 decsion. Jackson is now 8-1 on the year.

Indiana had two other podium finishers, senior Luke Sheridan (197) finished third place and redshirt sophomore Matt Irick (184) earned a fouth place. Sheridan was 4-1 with three pins. After losing in the semifinals to tenth ranked Bonaccorsi (Pittsburgh), Sheridan wrestled back to pin his last two competitors. The senior is now 8-3 has six pins on the year, all of which have come under 2 minutes.

Irick had a busy day, wrestling seven matches and going 5-2. He earned a pin in the second round before dropping his quarterfinal matchup. In the consolation bracket, Irick lost a tough decision 4-1 in the third place bout. He is now 10-4 with three pins in the 2014-15 season.

Boom! Walsh wins the 165 Midlands championship. He was down 4-1 in the 1st and got a few escapes, a takedown and then a PIN late in the 2nd. He's 22-2 with 18 pins on the season and chasing his record of 26 from last year. Nate Jackson finished 8th @ 174.
