‏@ProFootballTalk: Tracy Porter agrees to deal with Redskins after Giants visit http://wp.me/p14QSB-9r57

Well-traveled Tracy Porter has a new home.

The veteran cornerback has agreed to a new deal with the Redskins, according to Diana Russini of NBC 4 in Washington.

Porter had visited the Giants already before signing with the secondary needy Redskins.

Though not as many people saw it, Porter played well last year for the Raiders after a frustrating 2012 with the Broncos, that saw him suffer a seizure and miss considerable time.

The former Saints Super Bowl hero should lend some stability to the Redskins secondary, which brought DeAngelo Hall back to lead a young group.

RICHMOND — After spending the offseason working their way back into form following surgical procedures, cornerbacks Richard Crawford and Tracy Porter received clearance Wednesday to practice when the Redskins open training camp Thursday, Coach Jay Gruden said.

Porter, a free agent signing in the spring, had surgery to repair a torn labrum. While their teammates went through offseason practices, both cornerbacks worked on the side with trainers to further strengthen their surgically-repaired limbs.

Now fully healthy, they will compete for playing time behind starters DeAngelo Hall and David Amerson. Defensive coordinator Jim Haslett and secondary coach Raheem Morris must identify their top nickel back this preseason and settle on a depth chart at cornerback. Washington signed Porter with plans of using the former Raider and Saint at nickel back.

@Redskins: Injury updates: CB T. Porter (hamstring), LB A. Jordan (knee) did not practice, OLB B. Orakpo (ankle) limited in practice today.

@Redskins: Gruden said if Tracy Porter can't play Sunday, E.J. Biggers and Bashaud Breeland will fill in that role.

The Washington Redskins have released right guard Chris Chester and cornerback Tracy Porter, according to multiple people with knowledge of the situation.

Porter had signed a two-year, $6 million deal with Washington last offseason. But he battled hamstring and shoulder injuries and wound up appearing in only three games.

Porter, who Coach Jay Gruden said had missed Tuesday’s practice because his flight on Monday evening got canceled, was deemed expendable because of the emergence of 2014 fourth-rounder Bashaud Breeland, and 2015 free-agent addition, Chris Culliver. Third-year pro David Amerson and 13th-year veteran DeAngelo Hall also remain in the mix.

Releasing Porter saves $2.2 million against the cap this season. Washington still is on the hook for a $1 million dead cap hit.

In the October 5 incident, the victim alleged that she visited Porter to get her keys back from him when the two became involved in a verbal argument.
