IUBB vs MSU Game Thread 1/23 8:30 FS1

That was the most amped crowd I have seen in a few years in person. That crowd was locked in 30 minutes before the game started. Ok, now to the not so positive aspects of the crowd. Twice they had to get on the mic and tell the crowd we were about to cause IU a technical. If you can’t be more creative than a “**** you” chant, I don’t know what to say. That was a consistent chant. Wasn’t one of. It was before the game. During the game. A few times. Throwing the bottle? That was close to Vic. Not cool. If you suck that much at throwing, you shouldn’t throw things. Again, not the only thing thrown. We are better than tonight as a crowd and I was trashed.

When was the other throwing incident? I only remember the one close to Vic. And did they escort that person out? I saw the students pointing and ratting him out and security come down the steps but that was it. And the chant...I was NOT pleased about at all. I fully agree, we are better than that.

Are there any left on this board who still want Archie fired?
Indiana won that game with two pretty benign performances by the 2 seniors.  Only 10% of the minutes, 4 points, 2 rebounds,  2 assists, and 3 turnovers between them.  Indiana won a game against one of the better teams in the country getting "bad DeVonte."   Assuming everyone else is back, this team is only going to get better.   We make FT's?  That's a 15 point cruise.   Indiana was the better team...dominating the paint, winning points in transition, won the rebound battle, committed fewer turnovers, and shot it better from the field.  And...the defensive end looks a lot more connected.  Kids have clearly bought in.
15-4 with no bad losses is better than 90%+ teams in the country, boys.  I still have plenty of faith in Archie Miller.  He's much more calm and collected than I thought he'd be, which is a benefit for a young team.  This group has no "man," but it's balanced and deep.   I like the future.

Don't think 2 games are going to change people's minds one way or the other. People that wanted him fired are still extremely skeptical I'm sure and people that don't want him fired will continue to back him during poor performances. People's opinions weren't based off of just a few games here and there regardless of which way you lean

I watched the game, when I got from the Wooden Shoes' game. I didn't know who won because I stayed away from Social media.
I thought this was their best game of the season.did they make mistakes? Yes they did. They did not let those mistakes compound and let them become the norm. They bounced back. I don't mind mistakes when that happens. Very few, if any, games are perfect.
My favorite comment I heard was everyone who played had at least 1 rebound and Scored.
For the most part they all played well, but I thought Brunk, Thompson, and Phinisee played the best.
Hopefully they realize they can play at a high level when they want too.
Hit your FTs.

Sorry, I caught as much of the game as I could last night.  Had to extract vomit out of our carpet last night.  OOOH fun!

A couple of questions:

1.  Is Phin hurt?  I kept seeing bits and pieces of that being said.

2.  What I did see is Winston getting all the foul calls when he himself manufacturer and acted upon it.  Anyone else feel that?

3.  Did the "F U" chant happen on TV or was it live?  In any case is intolerable.

4.  Did Green really play that bad or was i hallucinating from the smell of vomit and cleaner????

  1. To me it looked like he cramped up at the very end, which is not at all an issue.
  2. Not me. Winston is very, very good at 'causing' contact. The best, craftiest guards know how to do that effectively. Thought the refs were absolutely excellent last night.
  3. I didn't hear it, but es no bueno.
  4. He was terrible, but he's playing hard and engaged. He's also in a big-time shooting funk, so that magnifies bad plays. He'll be a major plus down the road as long as his attitude remains positive when things aren't ducky. In other words, we've seen this before.

Green was bad. He never really looked to do anything offensively when he was out there. Barely played in the second half.

I thought Justin was pretty inefficient as well.

I slowed down the replay and it looked like he rolled it but not that bad.

Can we all get off the Al Durham can't play in big games train. He proved it last night. We have some really good mojo going right now. Kids are locked in and are connected.

Al was the best version of himself last night:

  • Not especially athletic, but not forcing things
  • Our best 'open' shooter
  • A veteran calming influence
  • Buttoned-up with the ball in his hands
  • Deferring to Phin to start the offense

I'm sure it's been said on here somewhere, but I credit the "mojo" to shortened rotation, especially at the end of games.  Archie is still figuring this team out.

Great win. Happy to see so many things last night but just name a few...best game Race Thompson has ever played for us? Brunk....just keep getting after it buddy. We love you. And Durham finally playing like we know he can.

Interesting resume scenario coming up here. I'm not looking past the Maryland game at all, but OSU is obviously in a free fall. They are currently still a quad 1 win, but we very well could go to Columbus where a win would simply replace a quad 1 win with another. (i.e. the road win would count as a quad 1 win, but simultaneously knock them far enough down the NET rankings to make our home win a quad 2 win). Especially since they follow us with road games at Michigan and Wisky. Not saying a win there hurts us, that will never be the case, just an interesting possible scenario.

Okay enough of that. What a huge opportunity on Sunday now. IF....IF we pull it off, would we have the best overall resume in the conference? (I've done no research on this, I just can't think off the top of my head who else would have 4 quad 1 wins).

I noticed during the players post-game press it looked like Joey leaned over and slapped TJD on the knee several times. It appears these guys really enjoy each other and that's starting to show on the court as a team.  I love what Joey brings to the team. Great win last night.

I saw that also.

Joey looked emotional when Trace was talking about the positive attributes he brings to the team and then slapped him on the knee in appreciation.

I think this team has a closeness that was missing on last year's squad and also think the newcomers are a huge reason for it.That includes Franklin also.

But then again I was highly intoxicated at that point and may have misinterpreted what I saw.
