#USMNT - 2019 Gold Cup

Recommended Posts

Big USA soccer fan, thought things were looking up in some of the friendlies from when Greg took over. I am not sold on his cute tactics and playing from the back. It killed Arsenal in a lot of matches this past season. Jamaica and Venezuela were ugly. We didn’t have full starting squad for those but the starters that played looked horrific. Long at CB was not what I wanted to see. Not having Tyler Adams will hurt given his build up play and runs from the back. Not to mention his athleticism. Duane Holmes looked good in his limited minutes. Then he got hurt in training and is out. Yedlin not with the team due to hernia also sucks. Will trapp must play like he does with the crew. Consistent, smart, and play as a leader. Whenever he puts on the USA kit he looks so tentative!! Interested to see what Tyler Boyd does with this opportunity. He’s got pace and had a couple of great passes against Venezuela, he dropped more into CAM role later in the that match. Would like him to have a more wide role than center mid role. Upset still that Josh Sargent didn’t get a 23 spot, I think he’s shown what he’s capable of, not to mention people speculated that since he wasn’t on the U20 WC squad, he would make gold cup, then once that didn’t happen it was thought okay he will be on the U23 summer camp (Olympic training squad).....didn’t get call up for that. Jordan Morris needs to get back to old form, been sidelined for basically 1.5-2 years due to injuries. Jozy needs to show why he’s the NO. 1 striker. Hopefully we can go out tonight and look interested and stop ball watching.....press and try some long balls with the speed we might possibly have on the field. Cheers men.

Great result against a lesser squad. Wish some of the early chances went in. Eventually we got the 1 goal to start the momentum. Defense still has trouble making passes and reads out of the back...disappointed in how walker Zimmerman started off. Hope Weston Mckinnie is okay.....Tyler Boyd showed up and showed out, great runs and passes all night long. With pulisic playing LCM and Boyd playing right/ almost second striker on right side during first half and then they both moved more mid attackers.....love spreading the field with pulisic and Boyd and their pace. Bradley was hung out to dry several times by players just ball watching and waiting. Overall good result. Some things to work on before Saturday and hopefully we can get another 4-0 victory and at least do some good after faltering to Trinidad and Tobago in WC qualifying. Hopefully the boys come out hungry and angry. Cheers
