Class of '66 Old Fart

IUBASE at Maryland - March 29-31, 2019

Recommended Posts

We get runners on 1st and 2nd in the top of the 2nd with nobody out and Drew Ashley brings them home with a 3-run homer.  Matt Lloyd immediately follows with a solo shot to center and IU has a 6-1 lead after an inning and a half.  Lloyd's third homer of the weekend.

Terps put 2 runners on in the bottom of the 2nd but a double play gets Saalfrank out of a jam.   6-1 IU leads after 2.

With one out in the 3rd, Bradley singles and Houston follows with a bunt that doesn't even draw a throw to first base.  Cross walks loading the bases and then a 2-out walk to Ashley forces in run number 7 for IU and bases still loaded.  Lloyd then clears the bases with a double and it's 10-1 in the middle of the 3rd.

Terps get a run back and it's 10-2 after 3 innings.

In our 4th, we put runners on 1st and 2nd with 1 out but leave them stranded and it's still 10-2 after 4 complete innings.  Saalfrank's given up 3 hits;  8K;  2BB;  63 pitches.

5th Inning:  Barr reaches on a fielders choice that scores a run and then Richardson reaches on an error that scores another run and it's 12-2.  And the beat down goes on with a 3-run homer by Scotty Bradley and it's 15-2.  This was our 12th home run of the weekend. 3 up and 3 down for the Terps in their half of the 5th; Saalfrank with 10 K's.

6th Inning:  Terps load the bases with 1 out.  Saalfrank gets a pop-up to short and then his 11th K to get out of the inning.  IU still leading 15-2.

7th inning:  Gabe Bierman takes the mound in relief of Saalfrank and gets 3 up and 3 down.  Saalfrank gave up 2 runs on 5 hits; 11 K; 3 BB.  He threw 95 pitches; 58 were strikes.  Score remains 15-2.

35 runs in a series after being shut out a game has to be close to a record

8th inning:  We load the bases with 1 out and Ashley drives in a run on a fielder's choice.  Lloyd then clears the bases with a 3-run homer and it's now 19-2.  Lloyd has 7 rbi on the day.  In the bottom of the inning Cal Krueger takes the mound and gives up a leadoff double and then wild pitches the runner to 3rd who scores on a ground out.   At the end of 8 innings 19-3 IU with a comfortable lead.

Grant Sloan takes the mound in the 9th and gives up a 2-out solo home run to make it 19-4 and that's the final score.  On the day we had 14 hits - 4 homers; 1 double and 9 singles.  Lloyd 3-5 and Bradley 4-5 on the day.  Lloyd with 7 rbi;  Ashley with 5 and Bradley with 3.  Saalfrank credited with the win.   IU 17-10 on the season and 5-1 in B1G play.

We have a Wednesday night game at home with Wright State and a 3-game homestand next weekend with Penn State.

Was hiking so barely got to follow any of game but good to see both good iu and good Andrew Saalfrank showed up again.

i had not heard about Fineman and that sucks (although I wondered if something was up with him against Kent St when he was never brought in to pinch hit in obvious situations) but Cross is decent defensively with some power in his bat. Not Fineman for sure but certainly a capable replacement.

Nice to be sitting at 5-1 in conference and I promise Wednesday I will be watching the full game against Wright St. and providing my normal updates.

LOL. Love it. Great way to hold his feet to the fire.

Boys... it's hard to win on Friday nights. He posted that after a loss to Maryland on a Friday night. Also.. they're up to like 60th in RPI so it isn't a bad loss at all, especially on the road, it's actually a "good" loss.

Ehh.. yes and no. Their #1 pitcher is an absolute stud.

9 of their 10 B1G losses have been by 2 or less runs.

At Maryland wasn't a bad loss...PSU at home was. They're 1-10 in the league entering this weekend.

The operative phrase being “so far.” They did get off to a 7-8 start so my criticism wasn’t unfounded.

No it was ridiculous at the time and is now. We were 15 games into a 55 game season lol

Just be a fan man. Promise it is way more fun that way.
