Would prefer mediocre out of conference games. Seems like the committee values overall wins and that seems our best path to the dance

Speaking of...

The "committee" () should come out with their criteria before the season starts. And maybe they do. But I find it ridiculous that only after the tournament selection is complete is when anyone finally hears, "Oh, well this year they/we really focused on number of wins vs quality/SOS, etc." Teams have a right to schedule to their benefit. I guess they did somewhat provide an inkling of what they are looking for this year with the Quad ranks and such, but to then hear the bubble was essentially determined quantity of wins makes that whole system seem like a complete waste of time.

That’s just what IU had.... a mediocre non conference schedule. #188 in the country. Maybe part of the reason they didn’t get in.

There were some solid games (@Dook, Marquette, Uof6, @Ark, and Butler) but we need to eliminate those terrible low majors from the schedule. The 5 solid games we played were comparable to others who had a better noncon SOS but we had too many sub 200 opponents.

We played Gavitt the last 2 years; @ Seton Hall (2017), Marquette (2018) so its likely we won't be playing that. When's the last time IU was in a Thanksgiving tournament in some random tropical land or on a cruise ship?

I've been wondering this too. There are like 74 holiday tournaments. How are never involved in any of them? Granted, many are not that desirable but between the Preseason NIT, the Maui, the one in the bahamas, puerto rico, Vegas, more that I can't think of right now....do we specifically avoid these? It would be a great opportunity for quality wins.

I’m almost certain we are going to Maui in 2020. I remember it being announced last time we were there.

I thought so, too, but couldn't find anything after a quick search.

According to the NCAA “NET” Rankings IU’s Non Con schedule

Chicago St- 353
Central Arkansas- 297
Jacksonville- 289
UC Davis- 247
Montana St- 246
UT Arlington- 161
Arkansas- 65
Butler- 64
Marquette- 28
UofL- 22

IU needs to come some of that dead weight off

You got it. Playing the hard games gets you nothing. Plus we will get duke or north carolina in the challenge anyway ans that will be a loss.

Agreed trade the last 5 for teams in the 180-200 range.
