OL Brady Feeney - Christian Brothers College, MO (7/28/19)
OL Coleon Smith - Belleville, MI (7/28/19)

Some thoughts and notes on the OL pickups.

We we lost out on Denis, sounded good for IU going in to Friday. Shift changed to Oregon late Friday. Darn....I really liked him. Anyway.....

Feeney- first off great name. He’s a mauler. Was the only junior on Missouri all state team as an OL. Great frame. Shows great strength for an incoming senior in HS. I think this is a great get for IU and once some sites see him more, his rating should rise. Reminds me of Feeney and Wes Martin

Smith- raw, long and athletic OT. Even tho he is raw he shows great ability. Sometimes his youth gets the best of him, but he shows he can move to get in position. Won’t be a starter right away, given his strength. Overall could rise in rankings as well. He impressed many schools at camps. His rating is low for those interested in that but bigger schools have offered given his ceiling.

Remember coaches don’t care and don’t look at ratings of players. They look at fit in scheme. Size. Strength. Ability to add size and strength (their frame) and if they are athletic and mobile.

Big visit weekend coming up for the program, 7 current commits and 6 recruiting targets (incl. 1 player currently committed to FSU) per 24/7, see below.  Given 2020 will be a smaller class and the team has 15 commits on-board I would be surprised if CTA takes more than 3-4 (some combination of OL, DL, WR, S?) additional men in the class.  Paired with Sunday's bowl announcement, this weekend is shaping up to be a lot of fun!

@lucel15 of the remaining targets, are there any that you would recommend we keep a close eye on?

Commits

Christopher Keys

Caleb Murphy

Luke Wiginton

Brady Feeney

Javon Swinton

Dexter Williams

Cameron Knight

Non-Committed Recruits

Jason Harris 4* WDE - https://247sports.com/player/jason-harris-46043274/

Jaiden Francois 4* S  (Miami Decommit) - https://247sports.com/player/jaiden-francois-46037035/

Jontavis Robertson 3* WR - https://247sports.com/player/jontavis-robertson-46058571/

Bryson Bonds 3* S - https://247sports.com/player/bryson-bonds-46038006/

Leif Magnuson 3* OT - https://247sports.com/player/leif-magnuson-46085248/

Alex Atcavage 3* OG (Current FSU Commit) - https://247sports.com/player/alex-atcavage-46047219/

Leif Magnuson. Great name.

Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners

There might be some 'smoke' behind Magnuson, IUFB has picked up a few Crystal Ball picks over the last 2-3 weeks.  His only other scheduled OV is w/Kansas on 12/13.  Looks like Magnuson's dad played in the CFL for a few years as well, interesting kid for sure!

In order of verbals I would expect. AJ Barner (legit 6’5” athletic kid From OH committed to Ohio, will be a TE for us), Leif, Robertson, Powell (transfer from Stanford), Francois or Bonds (both seem high on us), Harris if we wow him. Atcavage seems to be sailing somewhat. Since we took Sciury. Atcavage wants to play Tackle.....coaches seem to see him as an interior guy

Assuming if CTA takes Jontavious that would rule out Alante Brown?

No I believe they would take both. If some attrition happens and that also might be first come first serve. Major focus will be adding some OL guys.

Curious - any immediate OL impact in this class?

Probably not. More development side of things. Leif can be a stud once he adds weight. Can’t teach length and athleticism Like that for a big guy....he could play anywhere on the line especially if the coaches think he’s long enough for tackle. Sciury is an early enrollee. He’s got size, but does he have strength. He’s been compared to Wes Martin. I also like the kid out of Missouri. However our starting line could look amazing if it looks like this and turns into quite possibly one of our stronger units.

possible starting line given this is how it plays out

LT- Bedford

LG- Powell (transfer from Stanford) or crider

C- Crider Or Powell

RG- Coy cronk (comes back and plays interior given that’s where nfl will play him if he gets to the league)

RT- Caleb Jones

Are you feeling bullish on Coy coming back for a 5th year?  If so, that's arguably better than any recruit CTA will bring in this cycle.

Separately are you expecting any 'surprise' attrition from the team that may open up a spot or two?

I’m indifferent in how I’m feeling, I think it all depends on how recovery goes and what teams tell him to do. Surprise attrition.....Not really if I had to throw something at a wall....a DE or DB here or there....other than that....I can’t see and haven’t heard anything.
