#IUMS - 2018 Adidas/IU Credit Union Classic

Recommended Posts

Ok after watching 2.5 games now I can say we do not miss Lillard one bit it doesn't appear as this back line with Maher is just as unbreakable as it was last year and Muse is there in a rare emergancy.

Now with that said we do miss Toye somewhat I think. His ability to stretch the field is missed and we no longer have a go to scorer up front which causes a lack of crisp passing in the final third since the other team can be more physical.

Overall a pretty good half other than the aforementioned passing issue as we approach box which is something to watch all season long. UConn has had exactly zero really good chances and we have had a couple. I'm glad we put that corner kick away late and need one more to split classic and 2 to win outright. UConn lacks the team camaraderie of Dartmouth but has a lot more talent to compensate so both are ranked about right as borderline top 25 tourney teams.

Not a good 2nd half.

With that said the fact that we held Uconn at bay playing as poorly as we did shows how dominant we are. We gave UConn one good opportunity all night (and just 4 shots) early in 2nd half on a break away on a bad turnover and Muse bailed the team out with a great save. As I said with this back line and Muse as long as we put one in we are probably good to go and will win almost every time. We allow maybe one or two good opportunities max in an entire game with our D and when we do slip up Muse will save the day.

The last 5 minutes we went into prevent mode which in past has been dangerous but with this back line the last 3 years when we do that its game over as when we throw 9-10 men back a team has zero chance of scoring on us given they can hardly if at all score when we play D with the normal 5-6 guys.

We lost the Classic to ND which no one will remember. What will be remembered is we have now beaten 3 tourney teams in a row shutting them out. This UConn team is going to be dangerous for one of the lower 15 or 16 seeds in the 2nd round while that Dartmouth team will probably fade in the same round to a top 5 seed like us. In soccer RPI is still used so all that matters is a 1-0 win and there are no style points. Also at 24 ND is the most underrated team in America. While Dartmouth is ranked about right at 22 and UConn at 18 ND should be right around us in top 5-10 and they are right on our level. Looking forward to the showdown in South Bend in 9 days with them which will be another war on the road with a team that can match us pound for pound like UNC and Wake Forest can.

Lastly people are definitely excited for this team as we drew over 3,800 on a gorgeous night which is about 700 more than in similar beautiful conditions for the Sunday game last year. Looking forward to Friday against VCU who is a similar team to UConn and Dartmouth talent wise in that they are a solid tourney team but we are still stronger.
