The No. 9-ranked University of Michigan field hockey team (5-2, 0-0 Big Ten) will hit the road this weekend. On Friday (Sept. 27), the Wolverines will face Indiana (4-3, 1-0 Big Ten) at 3 p.m. at the IU Field Hockey Complex in Bloomington, Indiana

 

Indiana -- The Hoosiers are 4-3 on the season and 1-0 in the Big Ten after they upset No. 23 Michigan State (4-2, Sept. 20) in East Lansing, Michigan. Hailey Couch and Kelsey Giese lead the team with five goals and two goals, respectively, while goalkeeper Sachi Ananias holds a 2.90 goals-against average with a .661 save percentage. Michigan boasts a 17-8 advantage in the all-time series against Indiana and has won eight of the last nine meetings, including a 6-1 decision last season.

IUFH Closes Out Four Game Homestand with Penn State on Friday; Kent State on Sunday

 

 

BLOOMINGTON, Ind.— Indiana Field Hockey (4-3) continues a four game homestand as Penn State (1-7) and Kent State come to town. The Hoosiers will play host to the Nittany Lions on Friday, Oct.4 at 3 p.m.. On Sunday, Indiana will host Kent State on Senior Day at 12 p.m.. Both matches can be streamed on BTN+.
 
LAST TIME: MICHIGAN & OHIO STATE
The Hoosiers kicked off their four game homestand by hosting No. 9 Michigan and then No. 14 Ohio State. On Friday against the Wolverines, Indiana couldn't contain the red-hot offense of Michigan as they fell, 5-0. In Sunday's matchup, the Hoosiers held the Buckeyes scoreless until the third quarter. Senior captain Kelsey Giese had two goals in the contest but the Hoosiers couldn't top the Buckeyes. Junior goalkeeper Sachi Ananias has a career high 13 saves on the afternoon.
 
SENIOR CELEBRATION
On Sunday vs. Kent State the Hoosier will celebrate their 2019 senior class. Seven seniors, Kelsey Giese, Ciara Girouard, Andi Jackson, Jessica Morford, Sam Scire, Grace Sensenig, and Sheridan Weiss will all be honored prior to the 12p match. Combined they have appeared in 66 total games.
 
PROMOTIONS
Friday's contest will Indiana Field Hockey's annual pink game. The Hoosiers will be giving out free pink Indiana t-shirts to fans in attendance. On Sunday, there will be a free kid's clinic with pizza for all participants. Sunday also for the 2019 senior day. Thank you Seniors banners will be given away to fans who attend the match. Lastly, if fans attend both the field hockey and women's soccer matches, they will be entered for a chance to win Indiana Football Tickets.
 
WORTH NOTING
Junior goalkeeper Sachi Ananias enters the weekend ranked No. 2 in the Big Ten in saves per game with 6.56. This puts her 13th in the nation among NCAA field hockey goalkeepers.

IUFH Travels to Rutgers and Maryland this Weekend

 

BLOOMINGTON, Ind.— Indiana Field Hockey (4-7, 1-3) faces road test at Rutgers (5-5, 0-2) and Maryland (11-1, 3-0) this weekend. The match at Rutgers on Friday, Oct. 11 is set for 3p while the Hoosiers will face Maryland in College Park, Md. on Sunday Oct. 13 at 12p. Both matches will stream live on BTN+.
 
Week 7:
Friday, October 11  – Indiana at Rutgers – 3:00 p.m. ET – Bauer Track & Field Complex

I know absolutely nothing about field hockey (among many other things) but I'm astounded that a team that's overall record is 5-5 is ranked as #19 in the nation.  And next we face an 11-1 Maryland team!!!!!!!!!

A few years ago they traveled out to play Delaware. I had no clue what the rules were, but it was fun to watch.

Full disclosure- I have no idea what the rules are either lol. It seems that B1G has a lot of good teams but I don’t know who the usual powerhouses are
