I was too busy with the Pacer game (which really was disappointing) to pay much attention but this loss to me is actually less upsetting and costly than any recently. Our pitching staff is exhausted and eventually freshman are freshman for a reason and they showed it tonight. Unlike most losses recently where we gave the games away tonight PU was actually the better team and we were sledding uphill all night.

Now Illinois is extremely important and unfortunately for us they have hit a rougher patch than we have so instead of it being valuable RPI points they are now must wins to avoid bad losses as they are 58th in RPI only 10 spots ahead of Purdue. Illini have lost twice to Grand Canyon, once to Valpo and once to Bradley in last week with the first 2 being well outside the top 100 and they have lost about 30 spots in the RPI. We have been off but even tonight we only got a one spot RPI penalty to 27 since it was a top 100 road game.

Need a sweep this weekend which will be tough. Illini have a guy name Bren Spillane who is hitting .444 with 16 HR’s. I have not seen numbers like that since before they switched the bats and Alex Dickerson was on IU. Even Schwarber with the new bats was 50 points lower and a couple HR’s behind that pace. Other than that they have 3 other good hitters over .300 and then a bunch of guys hitting pretty low. They have good but not great starters all with ERA’s between 3 and 4. They have 4 decent guys in their pen with ERA’s in the 3’s but nothing special. Team looks decent but ordinary outside of Spillane who looks like he’s having the best season of anyone in college baseball in a long time. Need a sweep badly and if we play like we are capable (and having Milto back would help a lot) that is certainly possible.

No game thread for this weekend? 3 game losing streak making everyone apathetic?

Well, the slump continues. 4 straight L's after losing at home to Illinois tonight 3-2. Scored 2 in the first and did nothing after that.
