Buss, Cahill, Penn w/ All B1G Honors

Recommended Posts

Seniors Tyra Buss and Amanda Cahill were All-Big Ten selections for the third year in a row, the conference announced Monday, while freshman Jaelynn Penn made the Big Ten’s all-freshman team.

Buss was named to the first team by both the media and the coaches for the third year in a row. She was a unanimous selection by the coaches, along with Iowa’s Megan Gustafson, Ohio State’s Kelsey Mitchell and Michigan’s Katelynn Flaherty. Gustafson, Mitchell, Flaherty and Minnesota’s Kenisha Bell were unanimous selections by the media.

Buss, the first player in program history to surpass 2,000 career points, is the third Hoosier to earn three first-team honors, following Denise Jackson (1981, ’83, ’84) and Karna Abram (1985-87). The senior from Mt. Carmel, Ill., is averaging a team-high 20.8 points, 4.8 assists and 1.9 steals per game.

Cahill was a second-team All-Big Ten honoree by the media for the third straight year, and the second straight year by the coaches. The conference’s coaches made Cahill honorable mention as a sophomore. The 6-foot-2 forward from Clyde, Ohio, ranks third in career rebounds, third in double-doubles and eighth in scoring.

Penn is the Hoosiers’ first all-freshman team selection since Larryn Brooks in 2014. Penn is averaging 10.1 points and 4.7 rebounds per contest.

The conference player of the year award was split, with the coaches going for Ohio State’s Kelsey Mitchell and the media selecting Iowa’s Megan Gustafson. Nebraska’s Amy Williams was the conference’s coach of the year selection.
