Track vs Gladstein Invitational

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana University track and field will open Harry Gladstein Fieldhouse to 18 teams to compete in the annual Gladstein Invitational Friday, January 19 and Saturday, January 20. Some of the teams the Hoosiers will face off with are: Eastern Kentucky, Miami (Ohio), Indiana State, Xavier and Western Michigan.
 
The IU men's team is currently sitting at the No. 14 spot in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). They will have the opportunity to face off against No. 8 Virginia Tech.  
 
The field events will start on Friday afternoon at 3:30pm EST with the men's weight throw. Redshirt senior Andrew Miller will be the athlete to watch in this event. Miller holds the school record in the weight throw and is currently ranked No. 7 in the national rankings with his mark from the Tennessee Duals of 21.38m (70'1.75"). Junior David Schall and freshman Nick Lane will also be throwing for the Hoosiers.
 
The first track event will begin at 4:20pm EST with the women's 3000m. Some key events on the track on Friday afternoon to keep an eye out for will be the men's and women's 3000m fast section.
 
Redshirt junior Katherine Receveur will be one of the five Hoosiers competing in the 3000m fast section. Receveur currently holds the all-time school record with the time of 9:03.71. Senior Brenna Calder, junior Maggie Allen, junior Kelsey Harris and junior Haley Harris will also compete in the 3000m fast section.
 
Redshirt sophomore Kyle Mau and redshirt junior Joe Murphy will compete in the men's 3000m fast section. Mau is currently ranked No. 3 in the national rankings from his performance at the Hoosier Open (8:07.44). Murphy is currently ranked No. 6 with the time of 8:11.13 from the Tennessee Duals.
 
Day two will start with the men's long jump at 10:45am EST. The first track event will begin at 10:50am with the women's 200m. Some key events to look out for on day two are the men's high jump and the men's and women's 600m fast section.
 
In men's high jump freshman Jyles Etienne is currently ranked No. 5 in the national rankings from his performance at the Hoosier Open with the mark of 2.21m (7'3"). Etienne will be returning to competition for only the second time this season.
 
The Hoosiers will be competing in the 600m for the first time this season. On the men's side, senior Daniel Kuhn won the 600m at the Big Ten Indoor Championships last year and holds the Big Ten record with the time of 1:15.23. He will be joined by redshirt senior Jordan Huntoon and freshman Zubin Muncherji.
 
On the women's side, senior Kendell Wiles finished third overall at the Big Ten Indoor Championships last year with the time of 1:28.81. Freshman Natalie Price will also be running in the 600m fast section.
