I remember you being a Bennett supporter along with me. I just didn’t agree with the to be fair Bennett is a proven talent evaluator as a stance against Miller being criticized for talent evaluation. To be a proven evaluator you have to start somewhere. Even if he miss evaluated players in his first cycle he still got to go after the players he feels will he’s his program long term. Coaches miss evaluate all the time. I thought Bennett got a player in Jared Reuter a couple years ago when they beat IU out for him. He ended up transferring to George Mason

He’s won the ACC 4 times in the last 6 years at the time of taking a flyer on a sub 350 recruit it was 3 of 5. The guy has proven hes got it.  And if he whiffs he will probably win the conference anyway.

I’m all for bringing in the kid if the staff feels he meets a need and can play.  I have ZERO idea if he is any good. My only hesitation (just one data point) was not his low ranking but that other college coaches saw him play on TJD’s AAU team, saw him shoot, play hard-nosed, but for some reason none of the power conference coaches  offered him a ride. No decent offers is not the end of the world but that one data point (out of many) led to a little concern/hesitation. If he has improved, fits a need, etc let’s sign him.

PS. Oladipo’s low ranking is often used as an example. He certainly over achieved, in a huge way, but he was also evaluated by coaches while in high school that resulted in offers from Maryland, Marquette, Notre Dame, Missouri, Xavier etc.

OG also was somewhat known and had offers from Iowa, Georgia and Ole miss

So to be fair Archie cannot take a flyer on a sub 300 guy until he wins the B1G 4 out of 6 years until then he gets destroyed by the fan base anytime he tries?

I would hardly say he’s getting destroyed. Most people are just questioning it.  We’ve seen this play before coach whiffs on primary targets a,b,c and D then digs deep for a body.

Theres a lot of red flags with this kid as well. As others have said tons of other programs saw this kid and nobody else is or was sniffing around.

Desmond Bane = 6’5 not ranked; only high major offer was TCU.  Other offers included Ball State.

I know not all recruits are created equal but this fan base is so reliant on rankings.  Miller needs to worry about putting some life in this program and getting players he believes will fight for IU.

I enjoyed having Romeo but that kind of recruit did nothing for us this year.  Get old, stay old and then maybe have some instant difference makers.

Indiana basically has 100,000 coaches the know how to evaluate talent and and can run this program better then the actual coach. Now people are telling me Bennett is a proven talent evaluator as to why it’s fair for him to take a chance on a lower ranked kids. All I’ve heard from most on here was how overrated of a coach Bennett was for losing to a 16 seed and that his system was boring and couldn’t make a final 4. Now he is a proven talent evaluator. What a difference a year makes. Lol. How long do you think it takes before an Indiana coach gets that coveted stamp of approval from the fans before he can run his program and recruit whoever he wants? Pure entertainment following these threads

With this fanbase? LOL, we could lose the second weekend of the tourney and there would be people calling for the coach's head or comparing him to Knight.

In my case the Priller reference was more of a joke, rather than thinking this kid is Priller,  as I still can’t believe we signed a player that only had an offer from Incarnate Word. That was just unbelievable.
Crean thought he was lights out from deep and april was a big body banger with nba potential.

I'm all for getting guys who can flat out play. I'm not convinced Wyndham can do that at Big 10 level. But perhaps he can. Personally I'd rather give a scholarship to a highly rated guy who can flat out play. Maybe at this point, we can't land such a guy.
It might be our recruiting is falling off. Maybe no big names are interested.

What is your definition of flat out playing? Playing on a team that makes the tourney? He was headed to Georgia St who made the tourney and we didn't. He's not Brooks but I don't think he is a reach either.
What makes you say that? Most of us never heard of him and now all of a sudden he can play in the big ten? I swear every guy we ever recruit is going to be a stud until he cant get off the bench.

Don't give a crap about rankings. Personality trait #1 in my book is being driven not to lose. I want players that hate losing even more than enjoy winning. With that I want guys that don't care if they get their averages as long as they don't lose. If this kid has that then I'm sold.

Never heard of him? He's going to be an Indiana All-Star. I guess I just thought most people follow Indiana high school basketball. I don't know if he will contribute next year but he shoots the 3 well and is 6'5 who defends well.

Jalen Windham can flat out shoot it. He's not a spot up shooter either, which is awesome. He can create his own shots & plays hungry. Ben Davis had a few really good players, so Windham's stats may not pop off the page, but he does have a little Desmond Bane in him. I'm not saying he's gonna be him, but it wouldn't shock me either.

With Brunk visiting today it means Archie is more focused on him since until the quiet/dead period is over, he can't really do much as far as in homes or use official visits. Brunk is doing an unofficial which is an option for other guys too, but this late most will likely wait a week.

The fact that Indiana is talking to Windham is just good due diligence. A player from Indiana at a position of need is available. It doesn't mean he has priority over Beverly, Quinones, or any of the potential grad transfers.

That said, we need shooters, and if Windham can do that really well, then he's worth consideration. For instance, if he can shoot the 3 at 40+% and play decent defense but not much else, I'd probably rather have him than Beverly, who's a much better all around player but, at least at this point, not much of an outside shooting threat. We saw this year that it doesn't matter how good a player is if he's constantly driving into double teams.

I just looked at Zeisloft's recruiting page, and he didn't even have a ranking. And I don't think that's too inaccurate considering he really couldn't do much other than shoot 3s. He shot 35 2s in 69 games at IU. But his ability to do one thing really well made us a much more dangerous team. Not everybody needs to be a top recruit. Yes, we want mostly top 100 guys. But sprinkling in some low rated specialists is going to help too.

Then why didn’t we do our good diligence last year?

Maybe they did and he didn’t track like they wanted. Then he worked his butt off during the season and got better and it caught the staffs eye once his recruitment opened back up.
