I don't really want to turn this into a racial thing but I wonder if that is the disconnect. I grew up playing sports with and against many African American players. The term may be more prevalent in that environment. The Isaiah Thomas quote is exactly what I'm talking about.

Let us be clear.. I have heard the term "dawg" used forever to describe a friend or what's up dawg, whatever. Just hadn't heard it used as in "someone who's nasty or mean or tough". Racial wise.. yes played AAU basketball with some teammates who were black, one went on to play football at IU actually. I played college football and coach HS now.

I think he put a spin on junkyard dog...which technically by the words of Webster's dictionary could be used as dog, doggy, dawg, pup, etc. etc. etc. It's his post, he can probably use any variation of the word dog he chooses. Hope that clears anything up lol

Must be a northern Indiana thing. I've lived in Southern Indiana, Florida, South Carolina, and Houston and I rarely ever here people calling each other dawgs. That's from normal people down to a friend of mine who was on the cowboys practice squad, CFL and played with Johnny Football at A&M. The most common terms I hear is bro and the n word with an a.

Is it just me or wouldn't you rather this be a four year deal with 2 games at home for each team. Neutral sites are so much less intense

I'm not big on neutral site games but I understand their purpose. Either way a series with Arizona makes me very happy :)
