(2018) SF Nahziah Carter to Washington

Recommended Posts

I like having an open spot, and I kinda think that's what we'll end up doing.

The best reason not to bank it is to achieve a little better class balance and not have a super sized class in '18.

On the other hand, we can sell playing time to the '18s by having a short returning roster.

With the large class coming in next year I would've liked to use it on a '17 to have more experience. Now that Carter is out, I don't really see another guy worth using that scholly on. Not that high on Moretti, but I will welcome him if he comes.

Agreed. The perfect scenario would be a Grad Transfer Big man with Bielfeldt's skills but with a couple yrs eligibility left (like Zeisloft). Doubt such a creature exists. I'm very sensitive to the (lack of) post depth.

The problem I would with forcing class balance at this point when such players aren't there is equally as bad as Crean throwing out scholarships to players that won't provide. It devalues the scholarship which hurt Crean more than anything. Definitely a fine line. If a grad transfer existed I would have been all for it. The type of player we want does not.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think IU ever offered Carter a scholarship for '17. Archie must have a good reason for not taking him in '17, because clearly they had a good relationship from the Dayton recruitment. Understandable if Carter wants to play more right away. UW offers that, IU can't.

Josh Margolis at Inside the Hall is reporting that Carter was offered last week for '17, so I was wrong. I suppose my playing time argument still stands, although the small forward position isn't exactly crowded at IU.

That's disappointing that he committed to Archie at Dayton but not again at IU. I know there are a lot of factors, but still.

May have something to do with the fact that Archie was holding out for an '18 scholly up until a few days ago and that didn't sit well with Carter and if the '17 scholly had been offered earlier he'd already be in Bloomington.

I'm fine with it. Carter may turn into a good player but I'd rather bank the unexpected scholarship instead of trying to fill it quickly at the last minute.(unless it's a grad transfer)
