Class of '66 Old Fart

2017 April Evaluation Period

Recommended Posts

Was wondering this the other day. Seems like it. Personally I am fine with it with good coaching lack of size can be overcome with athleticism and discipline.

Yep, and a lot of teams have been going to smaller style lineups to try and mimic the NBA trends. As long as our forwards can defend the 4 and 5 I am cool with whatever.

I would like to see a solid efficient offense in half court sets. I want a defense that mixes it up and is pissed off when they get scored on. I couldn't careless if we have a 6-3 or 6-8 SF as long as he plays within the system.

Versatility, to a degree, is the name of the game these days. I don't want to see our 5 man playing strictly on the perimeter without the ability to score in the post. I don't want to see all shooters without the ability to drive or feed the post. Conversely, I don't want to see all slashers and drivers without the ability to hit from outside.

I have faith Archie and Co. can put it all together to have a program that is consistently competing for B1G titles and making runs in the tourney.

Looks like we are trying to start a Tennessee pipeline.  Or maybe a coincidence we are looking at the best kid out of the state two years in a row.

I think it has more to do with recruiting the best in the area. Ostrum has us in the door with Minnesota kids as well.

For those possibly attending the AAU events in Indy this weekend here's some of the prospects we're following and their team name.  Certainly there are other kids we're following but these are the most prominent names at the moment.         (O) denotes an IU offer.

NIKE EYBL

The City Rocks:  Nahziah Carter (Was a Dayton recruit) / Isaiah Stewart (O)

BABC:  Cole Swider (O)

Bradley Beal Elite:  Darius Garland (O) / Jericole Hellems / James Wiseman (O)

Mean Streets:  Damezi Anderson

Spiece Indy Heat:  Keion Brooks (O)

Nike Team Florida:  Trendon Watford

Playaz Club - Jalen Carey (O)

Team Final - Louis King (O)

UNDER ARMOUR

G3 Grind:  Kevin Easley (FYI - Austin Boucher also on this team but don't think we have serious interest)

New Heights:  Sid Wilson

We-R-1:  Eric Ayala (O)

On Sunday at 9:30 I will be watching Bradley Beal vs BABC. (Garland, Wiseman, Francis Okoro, and Swider) and then Watford at 11. Im hoping to get a seat where I can watch 2 courts at a time. I wouldn't mind seeing Stewart play while he is in town. I'm trying to watch as many out of state kids as I can. The in state kids I will be able to watch during the upcoming season

Pressure's on; hope you can hold up.  We're all expecting highly detailed scouting reports from you this weekend.

Good stuff. Hope to be around this weekend but draft being in Philly sorta has me split up. Props to CCG, OF, USPS and others for keeping the updates coming.

One thing I'm not sure I've not talked about, and maybe this has been discussed, is how the new staff is going to approach this summer with recruiting. So, generally, a staff spends the HS season scouting, identifying, and recruiting. April comes and they hone in on those they identified and evaluate in April while also identifying/evaluating new prospects (AAU, they can see tons of kids at one sitting). Then July comes and you begin to see who the staff is going to pursue heavily, they aim to line up fall visits, and off they go.

Obviously, the one part missing for this staff is the HS season recruiting (scouting, evals, relationship building, identifying etc.) as there isn't much carryover from Dayton prospects to IU. Sure, there are a few, and Archie has been on them. So IU is behind in that sense. Basically, I'd expect this July to be a little wider open than you'll see in the future with this staff as they still look to find who they want/who wants them.

Also, if there has been concern over the number of offers Archie is giving out...I don't anticipate that being a thing going forward either. The class imbalance was created by the previous staff and IU potentially needs to fill a number of roster spots next year. That isn't something that is going to be fixed overnight.

In an effort not to clutter this thread too greatly, I'll make one post for each days games.  You will only see individual game stats for the current weekend.  The average that will appear at the bottom of each player’s name will be a true average for the number of games he has played, i.e., last weekend and the current weekend.

Hopefully, the input for game stats from the EYBL will be a little more thorough this weekend than it was last weekend.  Several teams did not have individual statistics reported for assists, TO’s., stls. and blks. in Saturday’s morning session.  For those particular players, the average you see will still be a true average for the games those stats were provided.  There was a similar EYBL issue in reporting individual shooting statistics most notably from Bradley Beal Elite.  My spreadsheet formulas take last week’s issues into account; however, if those kinds of problems persist, I won’t be able to provide accurate season-to-date shooting percentages going forward.

I’m focusing on players that have IU offers and those that we seem to have more than a passing interest in so not every name you saw last weekend will necessarily be posted this weekend.
