Recommended Posts

Here is a pretty relevant podcast with Archie Miller with Evan Daniels from February 28th.  I'll update as I listen to include the important parts.

  • "Each coach that I played for played a pivotal role.  Especially at Ohio State and arizona.  I've learned on the run at Dayton and it's been a heck of a ride."
  • re Thad Matta, "The greatest gift that Thad has is he puts alot of responsibility on you to develop the players.  He put alot of pressure on you develop relationships with your guys.  Can you make them better and at the same time can they trust you.  His players love to come to the gym and practice, love to be a part of the team."
  • re Sean Miller "I always knew one guy I always wnated to work for is my brother. If I could be around him everyday, to me it would have really finished off my mental blueprint to become a head coach.  Those two years were FAST.  In two years we were in the Elite 8, we were very fortunate."
  • How he is different than Sean - "His intensity level is impressive, we try to do the same thing with the intensity level in practice to hold yourself to that standard.  I'm probably more emotional during the game and practice.  I'm not very reserved, i'm very hands on.  He's a little bit more experience, more calm."
  • "With our teams, there is a tenacity with what we do.  No excuses.  our teams in the past have some resolve."
  • re Elite 8 team - "That team was one of our first teams where I felt like we could be really good.  They fought their way through it and earned it the old fashion way.  The players who were carry overs from that team have really continued that path and that's the culture we have now."
  • On other jobs he's been mentioned with - "Yea you get used to it, you really do.  You end up answering those questions every day after you have some success.  At the same time, I'm good at not paying attention to anything outside of what we are trying to do.  To me, it's a sign that we do things the right way and play the right way.  It doesn't impact what we are doing, because I don't allow it into the office."
  • Why is Dayton such a special place- "You better have great administration and support, it's unmatched here.  They understand how important basketball is, and how important it is to the community.  They are very supportive.  It's a working relationship daily and it's allowed us to grow and get better."
  • "To me, Trust is everything, it's allowed us to do everything we wanted to do to build this program."
  • "Our main mission was to establish ourselves as a power in the A10.  That's what we wanted to do when we took over.  That's what we were on a quest to do.  That's the main mission, to get to the top of the league.  The Elite 8 run gave us the recognition.  We came up short the next year, that added to the motivation."
