Tegray Scales 2nd Team SI.com All-American

Recommended Posts

Indiana junior linebacker Tegray Scales earned second team All-America honors, SI.com announced this afternoon. Scales is the first Hoosiers linebacker recognized on an All-America team since Van Waiters (3rd team) in 1987.

This marks three straight years (4 honorees) at least one Hoosier has made his way on to an All-America team: 2015 – offensive lineman Dan Feeney (1st team) and current Green Bay Packers offensive lineman Jason Spriggs (1st team); 2014 – current Atlanta Falcons running back Tevin Coleman (unanimous and consensus selection).

Scales leads the nation with 87 solo stops, and he is first in the Big Ten with 116 tackles (T-17th nationally) and 20.5 tackles for loss, which put him in a share of fourth nationally and in third on the program's single-season list.

His eight double-figure tackle games also rank first in the league (T-2nd nationally). Scales has five sacks, a pick-6 and one forced fumble.

The Cincinnati native put together a streak of six straight 10-tackle games during the regular season. It was the longest streak nationally, the longest streak in the Big Ten since 2012 and the longest streak at IU since at least 1990.
