I know at the HS I coach at we have worn them for 5 or 6 years. We wear them from our first practice in the summer, to our last practice before our first game. The ONLY time our kids do not wear them is during the game.We wear them in scrimmages and even 7 on 7 in the summer, no real reason not to. I think they are between $70-90 a pop, but well worth it. We are just now having to replace some of them.

We really don't have that many concussions anymore. Some of that is the guardian caps, some of it is a lot less contact in practice, some of it is acknowledging when a kid gets his bell rung and to check on them more often. Or get a hold of the trainer to look at them. The officials are more cognisant of this stuff, as well. They have a great view of most hits.

I remember when Feeney and another guy (can’t remember the name) had to sit for weeks due to concussions. Glad to see stuff like you mentioned cuts down on them significantly. I always felt like practice was were concussion issues were born due to repetition and the game incidents were more than likely a parlay to something that was already an issue.

I’m not sure but would be happy to ask someone. I’m all for them if they help just a little bit. I will say we haven’t heard of any concussions that I can think of.

I’m all for anything that keeps these guys 100% coming into the season

Have not heard anything like that yet. We're 3 weeks from the first home game so that would need to be announced soon.

Hey Chris, was curious on your thoughts on these helmet pads the guys are all wearing in practice. I don’t remember these in past years. Do you know if they’ve cut down on preseason concussions?

Not sure that's how it works. More to do with the NCAA evaluating the situation which is a joke these days rather than IU. I'd be shocked if he's not eligible.

I was told he transferred too late to qualify for instant eligibility so he needs an NCAA waiver, and the only way to get it is with IU’s sign off. I don’t have a way to confirm that though

My first blush is that they could be, but it would be a major recruiting joy kill, and the attempted civil penalty enforcement of a violation of an NDA would be the ultimate negative recruiting publicity event.

Sampson needs IU to sign off or he has to sit this year….if this is true, he better be sitting

Curious, and I have no idea, but….Did James really have a reputation for “putting in zero work”? Not disputing you but I had not heard that before. If true that would explain a lot as to why he did not pan out.

Same with what Chris said…he didn’t not try in practice from what I heard but also didn’t go the extra mile which is absolutely required of any kid who wants to start for a team as good IU as an underclassmen. My comment was more centered around the fact that he hasn’t paid his dues yet to have this kind of mindset. Some 5 star kids have to wait 3-4 years to play at major programs.

Yeah the day we pull a legit kid from Andrean is the day we need to send a temperature probe down to hell.

ND crapping the bed again this year coupled with IU winning 8-9+ games would have a massive impact. This may go down as the most important season for IU history ever.

That really doesn’t tell us anything. If charges come down he’ll quickly be off the team. Pretty crazy that charges haven’t been brought against someone at this point. If it wasn’t Jaylin, he obviously knows who was driving his car

I saw videos that show an excellent handle.

I think his areas for development are going to be strength and aggresiveness.

Agreed, I just saw a longer YouTube video that wasn’t just his highlighs. He can handle the ball well, and seems to dish effectively

However, from what I watched he’s pretty weak on the defensive end and a very low motor…he’s gonna need to change that and as you pointed out, work on strength and explosiveness. Smaller guards were scoring over and around him in the paint with little to no resistance…that said, this is based on an incredibly small sample size.

    Notes:

Haggard is now 305, 35 pound gain from last year

Tim Baldwin is the presumed starter for the time being

This obviously means nothing until we get closer to the end of August but Carr is a Doak Walker candidate at 3rd string?? Odd but ok….Ziemba is ahead of Handy AND DK??? No freaking way. Thomas Allen 3rd string??? Is he even playing this year?

    I’ve got questions
