Are you 7ft 230lbs+? lol

1 minute ago, SamIam said:Funny to see people mention guys like Sissoko. No one who has started so many B1G games is coming to fill this spot. My wishlist for the spot are twofold:1) Is he over 6'10, 2) does he have 5 fouls to give. There are plenty of these guys in the portal, but it's probably gonna be a guy that most of the ppl on this board have never heard of.
Agree.
Buuuuut one more caveat-- he has to be able to beat Durr in a foot race.

Arizona to IU is a step down in basically every way for a basketball player in 2024. If it’s not money, what’s the motivating factor?
I have no idea what THE motivating factor is. Ask them

Just now, Golfman25 said:Sure but that was before the unlimited transfer rules. Guys just looking for checks aren't necessarily the best "team players."
Do you know them?
How do you know they are just looking for checks?

Sorry, but I find that to be a far-fetched worry.

I don't love the current iteration of college sports, but it is here to stay so I want IU swimming in the deep end with the schools you mentioned.
I just can't believe "love of the university" is on the list needed for us to be successful. Can't take that seriously.

6 minutes ago, Demo said:Maybe Walsh following him is a tell. Watching this little bit he shows a big body, physicality, ok post footwork and finishing with both hands. But, man, watch his lateral movement and tell me who he defends. Would like to see some games to see how exploitable he was. I’m with Btownqb in wanting a defensive presence at the rim and he doesn’t look like that at all. But a physical, skilled, experienced big who understands his role would always find a way to help. If this turns out to be the kid they want there’s logic to it.
I will say...
Rice/Gallo/Cupps
KC/Leal/Newton
MM/Tucker
MR/Goode
Ballo/....
I'd go (big guy, big guy) to round out this roster if you do in fact get Goode. Leal, Newton, Cupps are non-rotational guards/perimeter guys is more than enough.
Maybe you go with this kid, who does have some skill, and then get a defensive 5, too. I'm probably pro- that route.

Averaged 15 mpg last year, down from 21 the year before. Don't think limited minutes would be an issue.
Only has one year left, which fits.
Improved his free throw shooting from in the 40% range his first two years, to 70% last year.
Tons of experience in high level games. Knows the physicality of the B1G.
Can't consider him a bad option, high level rebounder, I still prefer a better rim protector.

12 hours ago, Golfman25 said:I am not laughing at anybody. But it's split personality -- optimist vs. pessimist.
Reasons for optimism:
1) The fact is we have a top, if not the top, portal class.
2) The fact is we have 3 players ranked within the top 25 of portal players (a rarity in and of itself).
3) The "core" of Gallo, Malik, MM return.
4) Replaced a de-comitted 5* with another 5*.
So, giving Woodson all the benefit of the doubt, that is what my expectations are based on. Those are all facts and pieces in place. Is that not a Big10 Championship team? As I asked above, who beats us?
But then the pessimism:
1) Guards have to make the jump to 35%+ from 3.
2) Have we solved the 3-point defensive problems? Is that personnel or systemic?
3) Does the middle get clogged up with Malik and Ballo (a la Race and Trace), not giving the new dynamic guards driving lanes?
4) Can this new and young team learn to play together and gel in the short time they have before the season starts?
5) Will the Woodson offensive/defensive systems really work at the college level?
6) Why did we have a de-commit -- Is there an underlying problem?
7) Are some of these dudes just here to get paid, or will they give it their all to represent the name on the front?
These are unknowns right now. If the answers to these are positive, then the sky is the limit. We should be unstoppable, should we not?
So why aren't we Big10 Champions?
#1 isn't true
#2 is a worry--- Rice, KC aren't poor defenders, though, and I love the addition of Ballo defensively, and DEFENSIVE REB
#3 ehh
#4 very worried about that, in fact, my biggest worry, don't consider them overly young though, and won't subscribe to that as an excuse
#5 ehh
#6 you didn't pick up the phone for little Liam?
#7 who cares? UK, KU, Duke, and UNC have been paying (allegedly) guys for years and they play hard for them? These kids can't just mail it in because they're getting a fat check, they want to play in the league...
There are always unknowns.

2 minutes ago, OKHOOSIER said:They both shot 32% on the season. 35 is simply an attainable target number. If I had said 40+ someone would have come in with a comment about ridiculous expectations. I am not parsing out game by game numbers, if the three of them average 35 or more on the season, we are going to win a bunch of basketball games.
I'll be pretty disappointed if KC and MM only shoot 35%.

2 hours ago, OKHOOSIER said:I have baseline expectations every year and I think they apply here with all the unknowns. 23ish wins, in the hunt for the B1G, Saturday or Sunday in the BTT and a competent showing in the tournament. Personnel changes can alter that up or down, but that is my basic belief the standard should be based on my experience as a childhood IU fan, then student, and as alumni. Most of my life IU has been mediocre, I am used to it so it is hard for me to project or expect a SS or deeper run no matter who we have on the roster. That said, I do have a couple of 24-25 specific things I expect based on the current state of the program:
1. Exactly Zero losses of 20+ and I would prefer zero of 15+. Getting pantsed by every ranked team on the schedule is unacceptable to me.
2. MM, Rice and KC to push their 3pt averages closer to 35% as Sophomores. If that happens (or better) this team could be special-- additional shooter portal ads notwithstanding.
3. BTT champion. It has to happen sooner or later, and the B1G is as down as ever IMO we can get it done this year.
4. Woody has to make the second weekend. You cannot spend 6 Million on roster construction and lay an egg in March. His job depends on it. I have no interest in hearing excuses about new pieces and gelling and whatever other coach speak by the time B1G play starts. Everyone is turning over large numbers of their roster, yes we are on the high end, but I simply do not care. The staff is paid to construct the roster and get it to work, and that is what I expect them to do.
MM shot 37.8% in conference play next year... 35% would be a regression.
KC was over 34% in conference games

I'd prefer the best, most realistic rim protector out of the bunch.

What do I expect? To be underwhelmed...
Happy to get talented players, but until we see the team blow out cupcakes in buy games I feel more hopeful than optimistic per se. I think the team will be better, but being better than last year is not enough (obviously).

If we don’t play 3 guards consistently, how do you figure Goode gets 15MPG?
The way the roster is cut now, there is no way for me to NOT see us playing 3 guards consistently.
The way the roster is now, even if Goode commits, MM is playing some 4.
-
17 minutes ago, Juwan Moye said:Based on what? That’s only viable if we play 3 guards consistently or one of our top 3 guards gets injured.
The previous post by str8baller nailed this IMO.
Based on who we have, what's needed, and Luke's skill set.

2 minutes ago, str8baller said:The thing with the 3rd perimeter shooter off the bench is you have to convince them they’ll play mins over 5th yr senior and former starter Galloway and 5* frosh Tucker OR get a commitment from the staff they’ll stagger the bigs a play small consistently, and often.
If the kids have good advisors they’ll rightfully be skeptical of both. Because if you come here and neither of those things happen you’re suddenly and uncharacteristically riding the pine your last year of cbb in exchange for a few extra thousand dollars and the privilege of partying at Kilroys instead of some other B1G/SEC/ACC campus bar.
Obviously guys like Hickman and Essigian heard the pitch and decided against it. If Goode bites that’s great, but I’m guessing he has some other nice options.
I think there are no less than 15MPG, right now, on the table for Goode.

3 minutes ago, str8baller said:I think a lot of people expected the money to solve the min issue. Or in other words, people thought we could pay starters/borderline starters enough to come off the bench and rotation guys to sit the bench in case we needed them situationally.

Those are my expectations every year -- I expect to be the best. Not the dumpster fire we have been. Mike Woodson himself said "compete for championships." Well, we're waiting. Reality is we'll be middle of the pack again, first weekend exit.
That's what you think, correct.
It's just trying to shove it down other's throats, in EVERY thread, EVERY day, that's gotten a little overboard. I feel like there are two-three threads flat-out dedicated to taking sh*ts on Woodson, staff, and whoever else to suffice some on here's constant need to poop on things. Just do your pooping there, mercy, is that all that hard of an ask?
