No, I was there when Coach Knight was there, dudes were going out.  I don't have a problem with that per se.  Just think you ride a thin line with some of that.  It is fine to a degree as long as the priorities are straight.
That kind of thing can lead to trouble and frankly I don't know if we have the coaching staff in place that knows how to handle that.  These dudes are getting a ton of money for their age and I don't know, just seems like a recipe for potential disaster if it isn't moderated.

Need 1 more player before Woodson can go back to that platoon substitution style he loves. Even though he learns every year that it doesn't work, I expect we'll see it again next year.

Did you see the Tucker kid's comments at the McD practice?  He is going to be a starter.  I guarantee he was told he would be a starter.  That kid has the number 1 goal of getting to the NBA ASAP.  That doesn't happen as a bench role player.  Any starting lineup that anyone is putting together has 3 players locked in already.  Tucker, Mgbako, and Reneau are all starting.

I doubt he's saying "Hey Mike, you need to change your offense for me to come."  Probably more like, "do I really fit in this style of offense, Mike?"

Things are going to play out however they play out, so what I think doesn't matter at all in the grand scheme of things.
But we have 120 minutes to split at the 1-2-3 positions. If Perkins and Tucker sign, they, along with Galloway, will almost certainly consume at least 75-80 of those minutes (and probably more). That makes it really hard to add the multiple shooters IU consistently needs to have on the court, regardless of who else they sign.
Roster construction has probably been the biggest shortcoming of the current staff, so it's not unreasonable for people to anticipate those issues arising again as the recruiting focuses become clearer.

I think the problem, though, is that Tucker and Perkins are likely to, collectively, take up 55-60 minutes/game, which limits the time available for those other additions. Yes IU can still recruit other shooters, but their impact will be limited by the presence of these other additions.
In other words, Perkins is undoubtedly an upgrade to the current roster, but he may not be a great fit for a roster that has Galloway, Tucker (assuming he signs), and Reneau penciled in for serious minutes.
Similarly, Tucker is a great talent, but if he doesn't complement the rest of the roster, and is going to take up a bunch of PT, then the fit may not be great for 24-25, even if under other circumstances he'd be a no brainer to take.

Yeah, I don't think the problem is under appreciation of shooters, it's under utilization. Woody doesn't think it's the coach's job to help them. Funny, says he is doing his job, but never defines what it is. Until his offense does something to help the best shooters, I don't see the results changing much.

Can you imagine the level of negative recruiting going on against us? Everyone wants Conwell if he leaves ISU. And he would be great for us. But he would be for every other big program too. All a rival school has to do is play Woodsons sound bites. He’s completely recruited against himself to get top level guards.

Right?? Some of the “don’t bash woody, that can’t be true,” stuff I read is hilarious. It isn’t opinion, you literally only have to go back and listen. Woody has told you over and over again he’s arrogant and thinks he’s the smartest basketball mind in the room. Other team have 90 games of data to point to and say, “IU doesn’t value shooters or guard play.” This was always going to be a disaster and that was before Liam left.

It’s changed because MW pit fans against fans.  The fans aren’t the problem, it’s MW and the Administration.  I would continue to post and if you have information or opinions you want to share, the heck with those people who don’t like it.  I guarantee you that many of us on here enjoy reading your post.  Some people will disagree, who cares they can have their opinion too!  Like it’s been mentioned, everyone’s different opinions and open conversations is what makes this message board what it is.  We are all entitled to our opinions, right or wrong!

I prefer you keep posting what you hear. In this ever evolving world, things can change at the blink of an eye, drop of a hat, etc. You post what you hear. Whether people take as gospel on them. It’s called rumors or “what I’ve heard” Everyone thinks Trilly is gospel. He got Dusty May wrong (as did everyone) but that happens. Rabby is very careful and still gets things wrong too. It is what it is. Unless you hear it directly from the decision makers mouth, it could he wrong. Either way, I love when anyone posts what they hear. Do I put more weight into something specific posters say, yes. But will I ever hold any one accountable for saying what they are currently hearing. No. So thank you Chris and thank you to everyone who posts what they hear and everyone that keeps this board going and severely depletes my ability to ever stay on task at work. Now…back to the game.

I’ll add that one doesn’t need to be clairvoyant to see that anyone who stays is getting a huge pay increase. Anyone transferring probably was urged in that direction by lack of a better offer to stay. I would not be surprised at all if what you said was true and they got doubled or tripled before announcing their returns. It’s common sense not hyperbole.

Buckle up.  Every negative rumor is going to get inflated over the course of the next year.  Fair or not, Woodson dropped a nuke on what was left of his goodwill bridge on senior night.   He isn't going to get the benefit of the doubt anymore and the real problem he has is that most of the rumors about him are believable based on his public facing actions and words.

Not sure if I should share this or not but the feedback IU is getting from the portal so far, from kids who should be a layup for IU is not going well. When a player's camp tells you that you need to change your offense and pay them a lot of money to get them it's not good.

I don’t think anyone taking something as gospel is your fault, it’s theirs. I’m sure I’m not alone in saying I appreciate every tidbit we get from you or others. It’s my own decision as the reader to make a choice whether it seems plausible. It would appear Woody has successfully divided the fan base. Mark me not a true fan I guess. Hope you stick around.

So let me get this straight, if we are voicing our opinion about something we now have to have proof?  That’s BS!  This is a message board and we should be able state our opinions and speculate all we want.  That sounds like MW non-true fan stuff if you ask me.

Well since it has been announced that he is returning the sunshine pumping has been doubled or tripled by certain members. In each thread, we're told not to turn it into a discussion about firing Mike Woodson. Or there is already that thread. Now in the fire Mike Woodson thread the same thing is happening. So I guess we need to take a hint to either get in line or leave. I was just reading the other night how this place is so great because many different posters have different views and everyone can express it. But that seems to be changing some. JMO

I was being sarcastic. (thus the "/s")
The real kicker is those schools will use their money to supplement recruiting. Woodson will use it to buy a team instead of recruiting.
There's a huge difference between 1-2 players via the portal and 5-7 players. Woodson's way also comes with built-in excuses - new team, young team, still getting to know one another and a whole new hump to get over.

I disagree with some things here so maybe we were watching a different game.
It was a great game and I loved the toughness and fight we showed in a tough environment against a quality team.

I think maybe Coach Woodson heard me at halftime.  Geronimo and Bates played…..well let’s just say they were not good.  I liked that he shortened the rotation in the 2nd half.
I’m all for having depth but it must be quality depth.  Those two got in early but just did not play well.  I don’t know the path for Geronimo to get minutes. Race and Reneau are going to play a ton.  No way he should cut into Galloways minutes.

Again I like depth and if I’m Coach Woodson I don’t know how long I go to Geronimo and Bates before I either shorten the bench like he did in the 2nd half or give those minutes to Banks and Gunn to see what they got.  Hopefully they just had bad nights and will play better Sunday.

They are clearly IU's three most talented players, but I'm not sure about the order. JHS is probably IU's most talented player, even if Trayce is their most valuable player. And Reneau isn't as athletically gifted as Trayce perhaps, but I would say even as a freshman may have more refined post moves, a softer shooting touch, and appears to be a better ball handler.

Agree. Exhibition or not, the competition is going to be awesome. I think Jalen and Malik should start. CJ should be in the rotation. Those three weren't here last year. Time to bust the "this is the same team" myth some lazy college basketball writers say.
It's not that Jalen and Malik just looked good. They were by far two of the best players for IU. Not saying they will have rough games. They will. But the fact they look this good compared to the rest of the team is telling. The others outside of Trayce better step up!! Or they won't be playing as much. Woodson doesn't have a choice there. Time will tell.
