I responded to you because I felt he got his years wrong and that I could clear it up. Everyone gave Crean the first 2 years. But he should have been fired after year 3 and we should have moved on. The writing was on the wall at that point. It was after 13-14 and finally Glass got it through his thick skull after year 9. And Indiana is going to continue being where they are because they will hold on to Archie for far too long if he stays mediocre. We can preach that he can “learn” as he goes but if I had a nickel for every time that was said under Crean, I could probably buy Indiana University. The problem is that so many don’t want to realize there is an issue. They don’t want to realize the reality of IU basketball and think it’s still 1980. The kids we are recruiting weren’t alive when IU was good outside of the 3-4 seasons we have been since 93’. I wasn’t even born yet, Cheaney graduated a few months before I was born. Indiana is building now from the perspective of being a middle of the road Big Ten team at best. We aren’t building as a national presence. But at the same time we can’t settle. Because it is going to take a great coach and staff to put Indiana back where it belongs. We had one season where we great and we belonged. The fan base was crazy. People were happy. “This is Indiana” released and got people hyped. We don’t have that now. There isn’t a spark. It’s been a chore to watch the team the past 3 seasons. Need to get back to being a fun to team to watch. It might be best for Archie to let Green loose a bit. And someone needs to kick Smith in behind to start dunking on people. The players need to play with an energy and relentlessness that rubs off on the fans. That’s what we got with the 12-13 team. That team would take your lunch money and dunk on you. That could easily change. Owners and front office people wanted to see a year in college of these guys, they may want to go ahead and get them and stash them. Let them learn within the system and at a higher level with the possibility of some NBA action. Basketball landscape is changing. Teams will start using the GLeague like the MLB uses their minor leagues. Soon enough you’ll see these guys who aren’t quite ready as lottery picks in the GLeague to start with. It’s a move up. A&M has a butt load of money thanks to football. A bit more wide open in the SEC to be good as well. A&M has been able to pull in some recruits with past coaches as well. I think Hoiberg wanted to be at a school with little pressure honestly. If he gets them to winning 19+ games a year and some tourney appearances, they’ll be happy. I’m ready for the one and done rule to end. Is anyone else? College basketball is going to change. You’ll likely see all of the top 10 players in the country skipping college. Once all NBA team have a G-League affiliate, you’ll see even more skipping college to play for 100k a year there. Might be safe to say that the Top 25(basically every 5 star) will skip college. Where maybe #26 is your “#1 recruit.” You’ll have a lot more kids staying 3-4 years as the want for top HS players will be at an all time high and there being little room for kids to really leave school early. We will see an NBA draft lottery with a majority of HS graduates soon and a Kentucky team with a majority of 3-4 year players for the first time in over a decade.
