It appears we will do well enough in the portal that Galloway will come off the bench in the role that suits him best. That is a very good thing.

Not sure why so many think this is true. 5th year senior and most trusted player of the HC is most likely starting imo. I could be wrong, for sure, but I don't see a scenario where Galloway is coming off the bench with the current roster projection.

I don't think that is really true anymore with the transfer portal.  Things change so much from year to year.  If a new coach comes in the following year things will probably be completely different.

Could be but I'd wager it's easier to get a talent to stay at a school rather than trying to get one to leave their current school.

They way I worded that was stupid. Retention is easier than recruiting. That's the point I was trying to get at lol

WR Derrick Bohler, QB Broc Lowry, and RB Trent Howland are the newest post-ish-spring ball portalers.

I like Howland but given what the staff wants from the backs I didn't see him sticking around. Pass pro and receiving out of the backfield aren't his strong suits. He likely could've had a role in short yardage situations but he can get a much larger role in a power running scheme.

I'm guessing that IU feels like it has three very good guard choices and very much wants any two to pop. Slow playing is not for these three guys.

For me? If Hickman pops first, I'd prefer Carlyle as the other guard addition; better defender and better ball-handler than Conwell. Both are outstanding additions.

Also, I'm still not convinced that one year of Ballo is a better proposition than two years of Payne. Again, both are great gets. Watched a lot of Minnesota basketball this year and Payne's improvement and motor are so, so good.

I'm a fan of Payne and actually prefer him over Ballo I think. Kid plays so damn hard all the time. He'd also be a good rim protector that will not need post feeds on offense. I've admittedly not watched a lot of Ballo however.

Just an example of perceived paranoia - lack of trust, bad relations

I also read that as not wanting distractions. If that's the case then we need more of that in this world imo. Also if that's the reasoning then not really "out there" either. If the motivation is paranoia then yeah it's odd.

You act as if playing through the post is some archaic system. News flash, there are literally dozens among dozens of teams “who play through the post” that still emphasize shooting from the perimeter, namely the two teams who played for the national title game Monday night. Also that Arizona team with Tubelis and Ballo included.

“Playing through the post” does not literally mean ball goes in and doesn’t come out, no matter how much you want to think it does. I’m not sure what you saw out of our back court this last season that would make you think taking MORE perimeter shots would have lead to a better outcome? The personnel simply did not exist with that fault laying at the feet of Woodson.

The new wave of guards the staff are coveting are of a completely different dynamic. Three level scorers of who can not only create for themselves but for others. I would expect the volume of perimeter shots to increase exponentially next year if we land our priority targets.

Because 32% and 28% warrant that? I'm not sure what you've seen from those two to suggest shooting MORE perimeter shots is a recipe for success.

Reminds me of Romeo Langford with how he gets to the rim. Not an Uber athlete but kind of knifes through traffic.

Knifes through Stanford. Stanford was worse than IU defensively last year. If he comes to IU I'll watch more games of his but to take all stock in 1 game against Stanford is not a wise choice.

    Sooner the better for sure.

With long-term high school recruiting it’s usually best to have the last visit. With portalists it’s definitely best to have the first visit. And hope that the first visit is the last visit.

It appears that for Myles Rice and Pharrell Payne we will be their first visit. I believe we’re also Hickman’s first visit.

I understand that it may not be why many/most want to move on from Woody; I wish we’d gone after Dusty May while we could have.

I do think it’s why so many are so frantically frustrated and pissed off this particular year.

Ummmm no. PU was just as good last year before the tourney and outside of a 3-4 game stretch IU fans were not too upset. Also, the angst towards MW and wanting to move on came long before this season was over and way before PU was in F4/Championship. Purdue making it to the final sucks but it sucks by itself and is not related to MW trying to sell his absolutely awful basketball to us fans.

They did offer. He's also a decommit from LSU. He committed to LSU in Nov. of 2022 and decommitted this year in Feb. On3 has The U and the Gamecocks as the front runners at this point.

Interesting. His pic has him decked out in FSU gear
