I still don't totally believe it but it's one thing when you hear it from one player but now it's coming from multiple players. Of course, boosters have been saying it since the season ended. It's getting tiring I know that for sure.

In my mind, this was known by the staff for a while. Every action they’ve taken has indicated they were preparing for this.  Including the Kopp recruitment.  But more clearly, the continual search for a 7 footer.

I like the actions of the staff so far.

I feel for Hunter, and will root for him wherever the next stop is, but we will be ok.  Likely even better.

I've heard both Dane and Coach Ya say how impressed they have been with Lander this spring. So maybe the light bulb has turned on and he is turning the corner.

Here's the dog, Doc Fleek's been asking for!!

Rabjohns:  CJ Gunn ain't just a dog on defense. He's an angry dog on defense. Putting a good offensive player in front of him is like throwing steak in front of a starving pit bull. The dude can play both ends of the floor.

Indy Heat EYBL goes 4-0 this weekend in the Midwest Mania Tournament against Expressions Elite, City Rocks, Bates Fundamentals, and MPJ Elite.
Seen more than one comment about the defense Gunn played against Emoni Bates.

There were 4 other D1 athletes on his team the last two years though. 2 of them are basketball players. There is just only one ball to go around.

Gunn's Indy Heat AAU team went 6-0 this weekend.  No player stats but here's a clip his father posted.  He's #21.

I love coming back to random threads to see what the conversation is, and the Brunk departure is causing this much hubbub? Hand wringing about a guy who averaged 6 points and 5 rebounds in 19 minutes worth of work per game. He isn't athletic, cant shoot the three, is abysmal from the the line (57% career) and was an average rim defender (0.3 blks per game). To say he doesn't fit the CMW system is an incredible understatement, aside from coming off an injury that is often the kiss of death for a big man, and any basketball player (back problems). At best in our system he is five fouls to give under the basket, at worst he does not see the floor, and I am certain CMW was straight up with him. I am sure they want Logan to get whatever minutes would have gone to Joey.
Now, as to his transfer to Ohio, that one is puzzling, and I do not see playing time there for him exceeding what he got under Archie. I stated before in a different thread when we were arguing about "big men" that Joey literally becomes the tallest guy on their team by a couple inches. I guess that may have been the draw there for him and why they wanted him. Personally I wish him nothing but the best and hope he has a solid role for them in their rotation, I just don't see it. Either way, and this has been pointed out before, people need to get used to this kind of turnover, this isn't "Creaning" which was over signing for over signing sake and machine gunning scholarships to players that had no business getting an IU offer. This is turnover because every year we will be looking for the best players available to plug holes or make the team better. I think everyone should prepare themselves to lose the IU loyalty nonsense, they are going to build a roster year over year to get better, not clog a scholly on a 3 star at the end of the bench because he is loyal to IU and an "IU guy". This, like it or not, is what it takes to win big now in CBB, and with the transfer rule now, there will be very little "get old, stay old". But that's just like, my opinion man.

Good question, there's two answers to this imo.

    Kristian or Jordan.
Kristian has skill, we saw very very very very few flashes of it, but he has some wiggle. Sure his shot looks terrible, his defense looked incomparable to other guards in the B1G, he's pretty small, etc. But he has the offensive toolset to be a capable PG. I'd argue he was so disappointing last year that the growth he could see next year would be the largest and would equal to the most improved player. We have to remember, he's younger than most.
Jordan is an athlete. When you're an athlete a lot of doors open for yourself. Jordan showed the ability to hit the 3 a couple times, with a pretty shot I might add. He has a lot of room to grow offensively and defensively. But let's be honest here for a second, OG and Victor were in similar shoes. Both were general athletes coming in, showed perhaps a little more offensive and defensive skill than Jordan but they were mostly athletes. Jordan has the second most potential from the returners.

I think everyone who buys into what CMW is trying to do will be better than they were a year ago. The new guys should excel, especially Bates. I expect a really good product on the floor once they figure out how to do what coach Woodson wants them to do.

I believe he has the most upside on the roster! Although, I think we'll see significant improvement from the whole team.

Similar question was asked last year (surprise player or something like that) and I said Arman Franklin. Think I got that right. This year? That's way more tough to answer because I think so many guys could improve drastically from their baseline. I'm going to go with Jerome Hunter. I say he becomes an 11-14 ppg scorer, shoots 38-42% from 3, is no longer a defensive liability but does not greatly increase his rebounding #'s. I just think he has the 2nd most to benefit from good floor spacing on the offensive end.

Who do you think will be IU’s most improved player next year?
I think Lander has the best shot. I think he can get to the rim anytime he wants and can run pic N roll better than any of our G’s from last year.If he can get a respectable jump shot he will be superb.
Im Rooting for Leal he could be a guy to come off the bench and hit some shots.

If im making rules, it's getting 4 10-minute quarters and keeping the bonus at 7 fouls per quarter. Way less free throws. Way faster game. More flow created. Media timeouts at the under 5 mark, between quarters.

“It’s kind of hard sometimes because you want to play the comparison game. I’m an IU basketball fan. So I’m watching games sometimes and I’m like, ‘How could I fit out there? How could I help them?’ But I don’t want to fall into that trap because it can play with your mind. I love it at IWU. I wouldn’t change a thing.”

I imagine Woodson has started working a  bit with them on what he wants to do offensively and defensively, as well. Or at least has pointed them to clips of teams doing it. So the players probably have a better feel now than then of how well they'd fit into such a system.
Plus, Woodson has had a chance to evaluate the players so he may have told Brunk how much PT to expect. Maybe Brunk wanted more.
So things have definitely changed since TJD said that and between all of those things Brunk thought it was best to leave.
TBH, it doesn't break my heart that he's leaving. I'm only kind of disappointed since he wouldn't have counted as a scholarship so looking at it from that perspective he'd be a great player to have as a walk-on.
(Before anyone tells me, yes, I know he wouldn't have had to pay for his schooling so not technically a walk-on.)

Leal and especially Galloway are the kind of guys that not only push more talented players in practice but do the little things that help a team win games and make deep tournament runs. At this stage in their careers they are not starters on a really good team but they are good options as the 3rd and 4th players off of the bench, which they'll likely be. Writing them off after one season with a bad coach is beyond silly in my opinion.

I don't really understand the speculation on additional players transferring. I may have missed it, but I haven't seen or heard anything to indicate any additional transfers, and on Hunter, he stands to have a big year, not the opposite, he's a legit outside shooter and Woodson will be running sets and a system to integrate outside shooting, which, of course, CAM didn't. Not seeing any reason to speculate on him or the others transferring. JMO.

He tweeted in response to a clip of Woodson saying he wanted his team to be shooting more threes. He said something along the lines of "I'm gonna be letting it fly". So that sounds like he was on board from the get-go.
