HOOsier Thunder got a reaction from thebigweave in General Coach Candidate News
No one knows whether he would succeed. You’re just patently pacist. Which is unsurprising for a fast food item, I suppose.
Moser is a gamble with a mixed track record, but his recent success is very impressive. He’s not a sure thing by any means, but I would rather gamble on someone with significant head coaching experience who has had the opportunity to learn from his failures and demonstrate growth and success, than someone who has never experienced either.

OF COURSE efficiency means something. Teams that are efficient win. Teams that have high temp may or may not win.
Exactly ten of the top 50 in offensive tempo qualified for the NCAA tournament. Meanwhile 41 of the top 50 in offensive efficiency made the dance. Best stat: of the top 36 in efficiency exactly ONE was in the fifty fastest tempos.
There is ZERO correlation to fast tempo and winning.

Much of the criticism of Bennett's tournament performance has been unfair and overlooks adverse circumstances. It may be true that his style does not lend itself to tournament success, but IMO there are not enough good data points yet to prove it. Most of his tournament losses can be explained by a combination of bad luck and/or key injury/illness. He has only had two seasons at Virginia where he did not have a key injury or illness in the tournament, and in those two seasons he went to an Elite Eight and won a Championship. He also won both of his first round games and went to a Sweet Sixteen in his two tournament appearances at Washington State. Everyone can be prone to looking bad in the tournament in a small sample size. Even Coach K lost to a 14-seed and a 15-seed in the span of 3 years. I bet that in 20 years Bennett's tournament success will make the early exits look more like aberrations than the rule.

I really think over a 20 year span they would more than even out. We'd also be sooo much more competitive/a true threat in the regular season.

Tony Bennett has gotten his teams ranked in the top 6, at least once, in each of the past 8 years lol
But nah... he plays slow sometimes. Pass

HOOsier Thunder reacted to BGVille Hoosierfan in (2019) SG Armaan Franklin to IU
I think everyone is really sleeping on Phinisee. I honestly think he'll be a starter by year's end. He's a true PG through and through and does not make boneheaded mistakes we've been accustomed to seeing from our more recent "point guards." High IQ guy that can score if need be (30 ppg in HS) but his main focus is distributing/creating for others. I think many will be VERY surprised by him.

Reid Travis is an absolute stud. I don't want to "make" room for him but if we have a spot open up for other personal reasons, you absolutely take Travis. Travis, Morgan, Romeo would just be silly.
If UK gets Travis they will add to the crazy list of stacked rosters (on paper)
Duke, Kansas, UK, Nevada, UCLA, LSU, Oregon, UNC to name a few.
other teams that will be stong and deep....Auburn, Kansas State, Tennesse, Gonzaga, Virginia, Michigan State, Virginia Tech, Maryland, Florida State.

HOOsier Thunder reacted to Old Friend in (2018) SG Romeo Langford - INDIANA HOOSIERS
I am of the school that says there are many ways to win in college basketball. The one I prefer is the "seniors plus an exceptional talent or two." And I suppose "upper classmen" is what I really mean; not necessarily seniors.
Michigan's team proved (and seems to prove every year) that you don't need superstars, but you do need consistency and players who can just be steady, produce, and guard/rebound.
Romeo - to me - is like an unexpected Christmas present. A Red Rider bee bee gun. He makes things a hell of a lot of fun; and I would love to have him. He's gone quickly however, and I'm more interested in kids who will stay 3-4 years which makes Indiana better over the long haul.
Phinisee is ready right now. He will develop over 4 years, but he will contribute significantly if not start next season. I'm skeptical of Anderson. He stood around a LOT in their semi state game v Carmel and scored just 6 points. Not impressed one bit. Hoping it was an anomaly.
That said, Indiana is in great shape with a ton of really solid players whether Romeo comes or not. I doubt he'll influence anybody. Seriously, Indiana had 2 lottery picks 5 years ago, one a national player of the year when he was in high school; and it didn't open any flood gates. I don't buy the argument that says "Romeo would make it cool" to come to IU. If Victor Oladipo hasn't already done that, I'm not sure it can be done. He stayed 3 years, by the way. One and done's don't do much for programs if you ask me. Kentucky's model is crumbling. Only Duke seems to have any kind of consistent success with them; and when you have a 5 time national champ coach who's also an Olympic/international Team USA coach, you'll have that.
I would LOVE to get Romeo. But if he goes somewhere else; I still think Indiana will be fine.

Could be an interesting target. Dayton and IU both involved the first time around. Seems like he might be a good fit for Archie's system and would have a year out to get integrated with 2 left to play.

HOOsier Thunder reacted to triple in IUBB vs Tennessee Tech 12/21 @ 8 pm
I'm with you. Our guys are no longer complaining to refs about every call against them. No longer celebrating way too early and far too often. We are learning (stress here) to play team defense and I'm confident we'll be consistent by year end and then future seasons. We are learning to make good passes and take good shots. We lack depth in the post and yet our post play is improving quickly. We lack natural leaders on the team and yet accountability is taking hold. I wouldn't give Miller a poor grade. I wouldn't give him any grade yet. This team started from scratch in many respects and he's been putting basic building blocks in place.

What a game. Much needed win. Screw Bonzie Colson and his automatic whistle bailouts. Big day for the Archie regime.

Bryce had nothing to do with Hanner, that was his brother Scott.
I've posted this before, but it seems like it is warranted again. I've known the Drew family for almost 50 years. Homer and Bryce are some of the most genuine people I've ever met. I have no earthly clue what happened to Scott. I would be shocked if Bryce chose to follow in his brothers shady footsteps, but as you say, college hoops is shady business and even the most honorable have fallen to temptation.

HOOsier Thunder got a reaction from Capt. Crimson in (2018) PG Darius Garland to Vandy
That is where the disappointment lies today. After the games this weekend and the miss on Garland, it is clear that extended patience will be required, as we are now looking at a methodical rebuild where we may not be anything more than a bubble team (if that) for the first 3-4 years (see Tony Bennett's trajectory at UVa, for example). We have plenty of talent coming in next year, but a pair of top 10 players would have allowed us to bypass the foundation building and see some quick results. Perhaps this will be better in the long run, but the process will likely be more painful than we had hoped.
