Anyone else feel the same way after tonight's loss as they did after the sweet 16 loss to Syracuse? Just utter disbelief about underachieving? Watching the catastrophe tonight was one of the hardest things I've had to do as a Hoosier fan and I've been one for almost 3 decades. I'm not sure who I want as our coach, but I know it can't be Tom Crean anymore. His time here is appreciated, but we deserve better. He revived the win column from Sampson's mess, but 9 years is plenty of time for an evaluation. Coach Crean is a good coach. Good is okay at some schools, but "it's Indiana...it's Indiana." We as Hoosier fans have always been here and we aren't going anywhere. We were here long before him and will be long after. We need to be revived this time, not the program, the fans. We have a solid foundation of players and the best facilities and one of the highest budgets in the country. It's time we started acting like it. I watched the special on him and his boys last night on ESPN. Everything that came out of him mouth was insane, with the exception of how he responds when people say "you're exploiting your kids." He actually made sense when he said, (something along the lines of) "UCLA is using my kids and getting rich off of them and it's called the NCAA business, but when a parent does it, it's called exploiting." Most big news is released on Friday after 5 in hopes people forget about it by Monday or in hopes something else happens over the weekend...and they're able to prepare for all of the interviews and press conference questions for Monday. You're probably just over analyzing. They're talking about failure because we failed. CTC is probably going to use the failure aspect of it to make them play with a chip on their shoulder and being an underdog á la Kansas and UNC. That being said, they're talking about failure so someone obviously planted that seed in them. Maybe CTC told them that he was out because he failed and they are cryptically supporting him because he's going to leave. Now I'm over analyzing. Stupid me. If he came to Assembly Hall, the administration would profit from it from gouged ticket sales, TV ratings, etc. I can understand him not wanting the university to make any more money off of him since they made X amount from him for 30 years. If I was the president of Ford and made them an unfathomable amount of money and the board fired me, I wouldn't support Ford, say the name or buy anything Ford. I wouldn't visit them or step foot into any of their facilities. Him doing book signings off campus is his way of interacting with fans that he clearly loves. Coach Knight is not one for lip service. If he came back, the university would profit and he would make $0. What's the difference of him making money off of the fans instead of the university? He's not being a child. This 1000x Coach Knight kept IU relevant. He put his life into the program and was given the boot like he wasn't the reason the athletic department funding existed. I can't imagine putting in that much time at any job and making it as successful as he did and getting tossed aside. I respect his decision and his words. He's earned the right to be bitter. What thread is this with hypothetical championships? We are on a 2 game streak against non tournament teams. The sky is not falling and there is no miracle that is going to put us in the dance. Tom Crean and IU fans is like a Facebook page. Everyone removed from the situation (national media, drive-by fans, and people who get their sports news from the talking heads) sees the highlights and all the good things he's done for us, while the fans see how he forgets Valentine's Day and our birthday and never and never listens etc. When we break up, everyone will feel bad for him because they will think we are spoiled brats.
