At Indiana you have to win a certain way. No shady characters. Because IU is better than everyone else and above it all. That snootiness has led to serious neglect and inflicted major damage on the basketball program.

In two seasons Holtmann has taken Ohio State to two NCAA tournaments and won at least one game in each one. Archie has a single NIT appearance in the same time span.

Archie and Allen are handcuffed by a lying administration that talks a good game but does little behind the scenes to develop a winning culture. The fact that the administration as recently as two years ago was running its most valuable asset like a DII program is grounds for immediate dismissal. Dayton was taking better care of its program than IU. I don’t know why Crean went along with it.

    2019 NIT Tournament

If you have followed IU sports for the last couple of decades you should know the negative mindset is the most realistic one.

    2019 NIT Tournament

Not expecting a win against Arkansas, especially without Romeo.
  6. Still an unimpressive performance. A lot of lazy passes.

IU was not going to fire a coach that performed the way Beilein did his first four seasons. Year five would have been a prove it season. Beilein won 24 games, a share of the regular season title, and earned a #4 seed in the tourney. He had a terrific recruiting class coming in. There was program momentum.
  8. Are these people so out of touch they don’t notice or care about the anger in the community, fanbase, and student population?

IU put up with three straight 20+ loss seasons under Crean. They would have tolerated a couple down years under Beilein. This is IU. Mediocrity is enabled and even rewarded.
  10. What does he have to be arrogant about? His tenure has been an abysmal failure.
  11. How does Fred Glass look at himself in the mirror? He has ruined Indiana basketball, perhaps permanently. I hope the administration is proud of themselves. Do they think they have made anything better by screwing up athletics possibly beyond repair? Is the university better? Are students and alumni happier?

Beilein inherited a bad situation at Michigan, similar to what Crean inherited at IU. If IU gave Crean nine years, they would have given Beilein ample time to turn things around.

Which is what Crean did- miss out on his top targets and go dumpster diving in desperation.

IU isn’t an attractive spot for out of state recruits. Not sure what our appeal is right now.

Beilein made the NCAA tournament in season two and won a game. He bought himself time with that. Archie made the NIT in season two.

Beilein won the Big Ten in year five and went to the tournament twice in his first four seasons at Michigan. IU gave Davis six seasons and Crean nine before firing them. If anything, IU is too patient.

Public perception matters. It influences media coverage and the brand value of a university. Basketball was one of the things IU was known for across the country. That isn’t the case anymore. None of this is controversial. It is the truth. I am sorry it gets your panties in such a wad.

Other fanbases regard IU athletics as a joke and that is because of football and basketball. Nobody cares about women’s rowing or water polo. The athletics department can spin and deflect all they want but public perception of success is based on the performance of two sports and two sports only.

I don’t agree that the Big Ten East is an impossible hill to climb. Michigan State lost six games last year. Penn State was nothing special. IU went 0-3 against the Big Ten West so the problems run deeper than divisional alignment. Allen has not had his teams ready in several highly winnable games. Plain and simple.

Crean should have been fired no later than 2015. Glass ignored the red flags in the program like the crappy APR and poor instate recruiting. You don’t wait until things get really bad before making a change. The APR Crean left Archie was so bad that Archie couldn’t manage the roster the way he wanted to when he got here. As for football, Allen has blown several very winnable games due to piss poor coaching. Purdue hired a new football coach at the same time Allen was brought on and they have won the last two Bucket games and gone bowling.

IU still pays less than mid major schools for buy games. IU is cheap as hell, even with basketball. They supposedly spend all of this money but not in areas that matter. Nebraska has better facilities.

So Fred is a patsy, a patsy who makes $561k a year. Where can I get that gig?

If Fred loved IU he would resign. But he prefers to collect his huge salary while never being held accountable.

You didn’t address any of the issues I raised. IU only had a large recruiting budget because they rent aircraft instead of using their own. That inflates the cost.

    Nebraska fired their AD.
