First away game.  The curse of '87.  This should be a close one and to this point only 3 brave prognosticators have picked the Orangemen.  You are all a bunch of homers - me too.

I don't participate in the prediction league...not sure why, but I don't think Syracuse is going to give us the problems they traditionally have. We've all read the anti-preparation stories from when Crean faced them in the sweet 16. Woody put it on Fife and the coaches to prepare. And as I'm reading, X and PS have both played against that zone & are helping coach us in practice. I believe the key to win will be in our D, not our O. More scattered thoughts here, but Syracuse is also not as "long and athletic" like they have been in the past, which makes that zone very tough. I think we hit our 3s, break up their zone, play tough D and surprise some folks.
    Adjusted Defense #156!!! https://kenpom.com
And Sagarin is lower on them than KenPom... https://sagarin.usatoday.com/2022-2/college-basketball-team-ratings-2021-22/
VCUs 258th rated offense put up 68 on them and won by double digits...
We have something to prove and are playing with purpose. IU 77, Cuse 62.

This game could cause my head to explode.  40 minutes of hell press from St John's could lead to racehorse basketball or a game of sloppy basketball.  St Johns averaging 105 points/game and shooting 48% from 3.  Can our defense slow them down?  Will our offense be up to the task.  I think we will win but a loss wouldn't be a shock.  Like where our heads are.

New coach, new players, new offense, new defense, players coming back from injury, coach will want to see every one play.  This not opening with Indiana State though. Woody will want to win this one.

    Ladies and gentlemen,
The discussion is getting pretty heated as it has veered toward the history of Adolph Rupp.
I encourage each of you to research Rupp’s history and character. Learn and inform yourselves, and draw your own conclusions.
This, however is a sports message board. While issues about racism, history, and individual responsibilities matter, and many think they matter greatly, the established rules of this board dictate that this will not be the place for that discussion.
So, from this point forward any posts about these issues will be hidden. That will continue to hold true in all threads, including threads where and if Brooks becomes a hot topic.
    Thanks

As I understand it the 13 limit is still in place with the exception of Seniors in eligibility from this past season. For instance, Joey Brunk (or Durham had he returned) do NOT count against the 13 limit for the up-coming season.
So if Brunk plays for IU then they could carry 14 scholarships total. And this past season did not count against anyone's eligibility. So Lander, Leal, Galloway, Geronimo can all play 4 more seasons.
If I am mistaken someone please correct me.

My understanding is that college men's basketball rosters are limited to 13 scholarship players.  However. the NCAA has granted an extra year of eligibility to all the players that played last year.  That means that the number of college players is going to increase next year (5th year seniors + incoming freshmen).  In fact the number should remain higher for the next 4 years until the "extra" year players are out of the system.  My question is whether the max limit on players is going to be increased.  Will the "extra" year players count against the number of scholarships?  While IU only has a one freshman class, it may have a major impact on a number of programs, depending on the rule.

Indiana has just hired the most experienced coach in program history.
    1. Started at IU for 4 years
    2. 2000+ career scorer
    3. All American
    4. 11 year NBA player and 10,000+ scorer
    5.  14 year NBA coach - head coach of 2 teams
    6.  From Indiana and member of Indiana basketball hall of fame.
So he lacks college experience but he has been successful at everything he has done in the past.  If he hadn't have been successful his career as a player and coach would have been very brief.  To have a 25 year professional career means that he has been able to develop relationships and is respected.
Wonder if the others that might have been suggested for the IU job could have matched the success that Woodson has had.  The next level up from college is littered with "great" players and coaches the washed out very quickly.
Mike Woodson has earned a chance to turn the IU program around and those that can't see that are idiots.  NOBODY can see the future
