I like Howland but given what the staff wants from the backs I didn't see him sticking around. Pass pro and receiving out of the backfield aren't his strong suits. He likely could've had a role in short yardage situations but he can get a much larger role in a power running scheme.

Yeah he's for sure small. Probably the reason why he was at Austin Peay to begin with. They need depth at that position and adding one of the topped ranked FCS corners will definitely add competition during practice. He's just the type of guy Coach Cig wants, someone that has something to prove with a chip on his shoulder. Who knows if he'll ever step foot on the gridiron on Saturdays. Best of luck to him and I hope he beats the odds.

I will say he did get a pick and PD against Bama in 2022 and a FF, 4 solos, 2 ast and 1 PD against the Vols last year. So he's no stranger to size. He also sees size at the FCS level as well.

Understand the point. But there is 5+ open 3’s a game that were passed up. The players passed them up, without the coaches telling them to not shoot an open 3. They take what’s already open and they average the same number of 3pt shots a game as Purdue.

I have read that "it went well" and he's a take for Indiana. He's planning on taking a visit to Colorado (who has a shell of a roster) and that things "could take a bit to play out". I'd say it's another hurry up and wait situation.

Zach Anderson is an interesting one...IU is at least gauging his interest I guess. He was above the 70th percentile in catch and shoot field goals and in the 99% nationally for catch and shoot three-point attempts. He's 6'7" and listed as a forward. I looked up his games against teams with a pulse (IU included):
7-13 from the field and 5-7 from 3 for 19 points against IU
-Pitt: 39 minutes and ten points on eight shots with six rebounds
-Cincy: 31 minutes, 4-9 from the field and 8 points
    -Minnesota: 34 minutes, 4-12/1-1 from 3 with 14 points and 7 rebounds
    -FAU (a win for FGCU): 37 minutes, 8-12 with 3-5 from 3, 10 rebounds and 21 points
-Stetson: 28 minutes, 28 minutes, 9-12 from the field with 3-4 from three and 23 points
-EKU: 35 minutes, 5-9 from the field, 5 rebounds and 16 points
If we put him in catch and shoot situations...he would be an interesting addition. I would certainly prefer TJ Power and Ben Humrichous but he might make more sense than someone like Leland Walker who would function as an emergency point guard.

He shot 51/111 for 45.9% from 3, I would say that would move the needle because he would add size and rebounding too

Gotta say the staff is definitely turning over a lot of stones this portal season. Hopefully the results are spectacular, but hard to argue they aren't at least kicking tires.

Zach Anderson FGCU who hit a ton of 3's against us is supposedly visiting soon. Maybe as soon as today.

No idea what the dude knows verses what he has just read and then surmised, I tend toward the latter, but given that Carlyle has scheduled no other visits, this certainly feels like something would need to go sideways in a pretty big way.

There were quite a few 3's not taken by open shooters last year. Hopefully we're getting kids that can hit those shots and aren't afraid to take them.

Not that hard. What is hard is trying to land a pure specialist who doesn’t upgrade you in any other way against the backdrop of a roster of 4-5 guards who don’t do that specialty as well but everything else better resulting in a muddled path to playing time. His path at Nebraska is crystal clear.

Would make a lot of sense.  Great chance for him to start.  A school that rains 3's.  Its a no-brainer if I'm CE.

    Very well said.
If the IDS article is any indication of the rift between faculty and Whitten, it only makes it sound like the IU faculty are more interested in pushing their political views than educating college students.
Only confirms my support of Whitten.

Tl/Dr:  The faculty is incapable of reading the room which makes their input a net negative on those topics.

Perhaps having the faculty too involved in the administrative side of things is part of the issue.  Let's just get down to brass tacks.  Bloomington and the Indiana faculty likely hold views closer to San Francisco than (pick almost anywhere in this state).  Whitten has to balance the idea that a whole bunch of people in this state aren't super interested in funding some of the absolute nonsense that passes as "scholarship" and "academic freedom" these days.  For each of those items, it was better for the school to not let the faculty be involved.
The professor lied about using facilities to promote a group that is out of step with the sensibilities of this state.  It also happened at a time where Palestinian support movements on campus were basically nothing but anti-semitic rants that were harassing Jewish students and celebrating the televised murder of Israeli civilians.  There was a reason he lied about the event and the lie meant he should be punished.
Related to that, having a person with similar views at a similar time displaying art in the Eskanazi art center was probably a good idea to 86 as well.  The background of the multimillion dollar donor Eskanazis would lead one to believe that they would probably not appreciate someone who basically promotes killing the jews having their art displayed all over a center with their name on it.  The donor wins over the lefty faculty on that.  Sorry.
Kinsey is a blight on the school.  We can pull Jordan's name off of everything because of his views but still support the extremely questionable stuff Kinsey did with children.  ---- that guy and everything to do with him.
On the last, she did go and oppose the bill.  She doesn't have a vote in government though so don't know what they expected.  Those people are her boss and hold the purse strings so again, being more militant like the faculty wanted is just cutting off your nose to spite your face.  Furthermore, the fact that the University is so wildly out of step with the rest of the state on a whole host of topics is a big reason why people are supportive of bills like that in the first place.  As someone who is politically on the other side of what is the norm in Bloomington and the school in particular, it gets noticed how hostile they are to people who have opinions like me, which are the dominate opinions in this state at the moment.  I think they waste money on stupid BS and it is a disservice to educating people in this state.  You get the perception that the school looks down its nose at the state it is in and that is part of what chases kids out of state after spending 4 years there.

I believe it was Fisher in the interview on the field that said - get ready Bloomington, winning is coming your way.  Agree with the leadership comment.  He seemed all business.

overall, I was pleased with what I saw last night.  A lot of new faces and learning a new system but everyone seemed to be engaged and in step with each other.  Very little penalties and we seemed quicker on both sides of the ball.  Love the attitude of the players during the sideline interviews.
Excited to see them this fall.

He's definitely not. Nor should he. What I think is plausible and would be my preference would be something like the following hypothetical:
-Malik Reneau is not in constant foul trouble and plays roughly 30 minutes per game. Oumar Ballo plays roughly 28 minutes per game (I think we likely play a bit slower than Arizona and Ballo could handle a bit more than 25 minutes per game if the pace is slightly slower). Reneau plays around 20 minutes with Ballo out there and roughly ten minutes with Ballo on the bench. During those ten minutes, he partners with TJ Power or Ben Humrichous plus a lineup of like: Rice/Carlyle/Galloway or Rice/Galloway/Tucker or Rice/Carlyle/Mgbako plus Power/Humrichous and then Malik at the "5". Ballo plays roughly eight minutes per game with those same lineups. That would give Power/Humrichous something like 15-20 minutes per game.
I think that would be preferable to just locking into a rigid standard of Malik playing 30 minutes and paired with a "center" (ala what we did with Sparks). It certainly appears to me that Ballo will be the only big guy we have that is just incapable of at least making a three-pointer. Elijah Malone shoots it at about 38%, Power and Humrichous can shoot it, etc.

Yep. This is also why I'm confused by people who claim that he could be one of the "outs" in a 4 out 1 in system. Malik isn't going to excel as a player facing the basket. He's not a great athlete. Can't slash and shoots basically a set shot.
He's a classic back to the basket player. And he's a tweener. He's a good, crafty player, but he definitely has some limitations and I think he's pretty close to his ceiling at this point.
