Crimson and Cream reacted to Demo in (2024) - SF Bryson Tucker to INDIANA
Don’t remember where, but I saw someone comp Tucker to Kerry Kittles. That’s a strong call, right down to the slightly funky action in the jumper.

You just never know.
Juwan Howard Kevin Keatts At this time last year, both of these fanbases expected those coaches to lead them to a meh-mediocre season. One of them, Howard, was so much worse than anyone could've imagined, and he was an easy dismissal decision. The other one looked like he was having that mediocre season, but then his team caught fire at just the right time and now that have a chance at a national championship. So while mediocre is the median expectation...
You just never know.

There clearly needs to be a shift in offensive philosophy for
Half court pace Shot selection (!) Actions to free up shooters And there clearly needs to be better roster construction.
But that doesn't discount that Perkins is a mean-@$$ grown man player. If he can't help? That's a Woodson problem, not a Perkins problem.

Nothing against Trey, he is a consumate team player, but if he is the starting SG my expectations drop. He seems perfectly suited as a 6th man. New high-level PG and SG paired with moderate improvement from Mbako & Reneau and a capable Center = NCAA team, IMO.
If IU brings in Perkins at point, then a dynamic starting SG is a must.

Good.
He is a crap-@$$ player with a sulky attitude.

My point remains:
Perkins is not a single... he is a semi-home run, but only if he is paired with appropriate roster construction. So I 100% agree that a starting backcourt of Perkins and Gallo has two excellent players who are not compatible with modern-era winning. But a backcourt of Perkins and, say, Conwell, with Galloway and Hickman as the sixth and seventh men would potentially be good stuff, especially if the offensive philosophy is re-evaluated.
Speculating about this is fun, but I'm waiting until May 1st to have an informed opinion.

@Mike Wiemuth (iuinphilly) a warm welcome to btb. You're my kind of guy and have been following you on other sites for some time. Really like how you take emotion out of the analysis. Hope we see you often on btb.

I think the Perkins shooting concerns are a bit overblown, and given we've had to deal with X and Galloway's shooting the past couple years I understand the panic, but let's think about this.
We're talking about a senior guard who just averaged 14/5/4 in the Big Ten, and also brings good defense and leadership to a program that desperately will need it with so many new faces. I understand the 30% from 3 is worth noting, but he shot 33% his other 3 seasons and shot 77% from the FT line throughout his career, indicating there's shooting ability there. His form isn't broken like X and Trey's shots. If he replicates his numbers from last year and his 3 point % jumped up to 33, I can't imagine there'd be any complaining around here. You'd definitely want a consistently strong shooter at the other guard spot but we should be thrilled if Perkins chooses to come here. We're a tournament team this year if we had a Tony Perkins.

Would completely disagree. Lack of volume over percentage is a much bigger concern. If you’re going to continue to play the same system, your PG can’t turn the ball over the way IU’s have under Woodson.

Perkins would be massive for IU. Beyond the averages and low TO rate, he’s a 23-24 year old experienced PG. Watch the tournament and one trend that’s easy to see is that these teams are throwing out grown men into the game. Perkins and multiple more scholarships to fill let’s do it

Put X in Iowa’s lineup with their tempo his raw turnover numbers would skyrocket given his potency to turn the ball over as suggested by his TO%.

Not even remotely comparable to X when you dive deeper into the numbers. X TO% was more than double Perkins.

If you look at Box Plus Minus scores from the team last year, one thing stands out…Ware will be hard to replace. He’s a 8.5 BPM while the rest of the starters total BPM is 8.4 combined (Reneau: 4.4, Mgbako: 2.2, Gallo: 2.1, XJ: -0.3).
To get “safely” back into the tournament you’ll need a start BPM total around 30-35. So without Kel’el, where is that hole getting filled? Let’s say you bump MM and MR to 15 combined (which is possible), you have to find another 15+ from the other 3 slots.
Perkins is a 5 BPM. So he’s on target, but just barely. You might need one or two guys more in the 7 range like Nelson/Estrada from Bama. Either way, you’ll need to hit some home runs very soon.

I actually was going to ask "why do they bring in 3 NBA guys and only keep 2 CBB guys for this show on Sweet sixteen weekend? You can tell Ernie , Chuck, and Kenny don't know $hit about any of these teams or players during this tourney!
