Alright guys, we have an entire thread dedicated to Mike Woodson. Please refrain from the “true fan” memes and other negativity towards the coach in these game threads

When we beat wisky, some people said "well, they are playing well".  We beat a Penn State team that has been playing well and it's "they suck".
If you don't want to give credit to Woodson, I'm cool with that.  Don't know how you can't be happy for the players, though.

Pepperdine junior Michael Ajayi plans to enter the transfer portal, he tells @On3sports. The 6-7 G/F averaged 17.2 points and 9.9 rebounds per game this season. Shot 47% from three.

Yup. Seen way too much of it with Booker. Ware’s stay at Oregon had a couple of mitigating factors. His recruiting Asst left before he hit campus. Kid was 2,000 miles from home with no relationships at all, which I’m sure was tough for a kid as reserved as he is. He didn’t connect with Altman in any way. It just didn’t work. My concern with Booker is I just don’t think he likes basketball. My concerns with Ware, and I’ve never been happier to be wrong about a kid in my life, didn’t include that.

I'll add that Booker's issues at this stage of his career extend far past effort. He's not a guy next year who you can just throw in a lineup for 25-30 mpg and he'll average 15 and 10 if you can somehow get him to play "harder" a la Ware. His ability isn't in the same galaxy as Kel'el Ware.

The reason why Booker isn’t getting the benefit of the doubt with some and @Class of '66 Old Fart correct me if I’m wrong is because we have followed his high school career and have pointed out these same concerns since his sophomore year.    I didn’t follow ware’s high school career I just went by his Oregon year.   I’ve personally watched Booker score 0 points against way less competition where he probably should have scored 30.  Even as a McDonald’s all American I’ve personally seen his high school coach bench him during a critical part of a game.  Does he have all the tools to be a stud? Yep.   Has he shown the motor to become that stud?   Not yet.    If he does he will be a problem but until then I will have my doubts

A massive difference, and I say that as a Cathedral alum who has always rooted for Booker. Per 40 is a non-starter here. Booker isn't in the same realm in both the physical or development stage that Ware was in as a freshman. Booker is literally unplayable on a team who doesn't have a front court to begin with. Ware played well when he was given extended minutes in games last year, he was just buoyed behind two good upperclassmen 5's.

This is why I'm very bullish on IUFB. My unicorn dream to see before I get fed to the worms is to witness IU become a football school.

ESPN: Simply put, no one has won big here in nearly a century. How did Scott Dolson and the administration tell you it was going to be different?
Cignetti: I think I sensed the commitment here that, obviously, college athletics has changed a lot. Football has changed a lot. Football's driving the bus across the country in terms of athletic revenue. And Scott has not been here that long as the AD, but he's been here 33 years and had a really good feel for Indiana. He came up as a ball boy under Bobby Knight. He and I really hit it off. I really got a sense from the president, Pamela Whitten, who had been at Georgia for five years and at Michigan State 15, that football was really important. Institutionally, the football budget and the commitment would be there. I knew there would be an NIL commitment, at least triple what it had been. As it turns out, it's been more than that. I felt like there was a commitment to get it done. And I felt extremely confident with a commitment that we would be successful. And I think in December, we made tremendous progress here. You can't really measure, it's not tangible or quantifiable because we haven't played a game. But we completely flipped the roster in December.

ESPN: Important question for any Indiana coach ... have you met John Mellencamp yet?
Cignetti: I did, actually. We had an event with about 34 donors, with $100,000 get in for NIL. He came and played three or four songs. It was awesome. Mark Cuban was there. So was his business partner, Todd Wagner. It was a great affair.

Here's the thing about McNeely and the offense. It's pretty simplistic to just say that the offense wasn't an issue in his decommitment because he knew what the offense was.
While the offense hasn't changed much in three seasons, Mike Woodson spent two seasons telling the fans/media that he wanted to play 4-out/1-in and that the style the first two years was because he had to take advantage of TJD and Race.
He spent two years telling us that it was actually his teams in Atlanta and NYC that ushered in the 3pt era in the NBA.
It's not a huge logical leap to assume that he was selling McNeely on that. I think as fans we were also expecting the staff to add guards and wings in a shift to that style this season.
Then he spent the entire season this year extremely defiant when questioned on these things.
I'm sure it's not the only reason, but its not a big leap to assume that a 3rd season of a poor offensive system played a part in McNeely's decision.
I actually think this also plays a big part in why the fans have turned on Woodson so quickly. I know it does for me. From a system standpoint, I kind of feel like Woodson has pulled a bait and switch.

The irony is, you have no idea who I am or how I think. I supported the Woodson hire (maybe because I was told to?). I've been in the corporate world for over 30 years, and not one time has a "leader" been given 4 years to get things turned around(except in politics). Especially the highest paid employee. Is said leader more important to your company than losing your best team members, and young promising prospects? Maybe you should read up what ROI means.
There's a huge difference between groupthink and common sense. Your opinion is welcome, your lecturing is not.

We should grab him. He'll fit nicely in the starting lineup with Reneau and Sparks. We'll just need 7 more bigs after that to round out the rotation.
