    NCAA Considering Freshman Ineligibility

It used to be the rule that freshmen were ineligible to play college varsity sports, circa 1970 and before. That's why most records are held by players from the mid-70'son, four years eligibility verses three.

    Your obligatory facilities update...

Right on, after all, they attract a heck of a lot of students to watch minor sports like volleyball with free student admission. That way, the fans you get there are into what's happening, and are more likely to stay and watch the entire contest. Nothing more discouraging to an athlete than to see fans leave very early in a game.

Right, but just because you sell students tickets, it doesn't mean they attend games. If the idea is to drum up support for football, it doesn't work. Plenty of evidence this season, when we played like s..., the students left. After halftime, nearly every home game, students didn't stay to 'support' the team. If the motivation is to boost football's bottom line, then coercing students to buy tickets is at the very least, a dirty trick. This is one reason I believe that Fred Glass will be departing soon. My point with this is that each team should stand on its own, and let the students have the choice about whether or not they wish to buy tickets for each individual sport. I know of no other Indiana college that has this policy in place.

    The next 6 games.

If we play some D, and find a way to hit chippies and free throws!

Why not go back to the way student tickets were distributed several years ago? A pool of all students applying for tickets were compiled, number of students to home games were calculated which rendered the number of home games each student would get. Students were given a season pass, the pass was punched at the gate. Seat numbers printed in the applicable games. In this way, students were given a fair number of games with seats in the lower arena, floor and balcony. Worked great, eliminated scalping student tickets, but allowed students to let friends use their ticket if unable to attend a game.

Will someone please address why it is ok for Glass to require students to buy football tickets to qualify for basketball tickets?

I am compassionate, I fry my pen-raised bacon slowly so that it isn't burned. I favor compassionate slaughtering of all livestock. The slit throat method works best!

Fall helpless into a hog pen, and as they devour you while still alive, I'll hand you a pen and the petition! Livestock is meant to be loved on a platter. Today it seems that is more empathy and generosity shown to dumb animals than there is for human suffering. Love a human, slaughter a hog!
  13. Reported today by the northwest indiana times, Chicago Bears are considering buying out Wilson's contract. "Upon the recommendation of former Bears head coach Cam Cameron, sources inside the Chicago Bears front office are considering extending an offer to Coach Kevin Wilson of Indiana University. Wilson wrapped up his season with an impressive win over Purdue, and is credited with crafting the Hoosier defensive turnaround with his canning of former defensive coach Doug Mallory. Known for his excellent time management and offensive skills, well-placed sources contend that Wilson would complement Bears Quarteback Jay Cutler. Back door talks are reportedly taking place, time will tell if the Bears have the juice to lure Wilson from IU." Who can argue with this?

What a crock! We have to tie student football to basketball tickets in an attempt to fill seats! One thing Glass is good at is wasting money!

Looked at the shot chart in the first half, man we missed a bunch of chippies that would have changed the whole game. 37% is just a bad shooting night, but missed free throws are tough to swallow.

    FIRE CREAN

Last week he signed a 12 year old who won his fight with childhood leukemia ceremoniously. Coach had a signing table set up at mid court prior to war ups, afterward, the kid was cheesing from ear to ear during warm ups, and canned some nice threes. Later, Mike commented to the news crew in attendance, "if he keeps shooting like he did tonight, we may press to honor his commitment." That's a guy with the right perspective.

Bethel's Lightfoot becomes all-time winningest coach for Ind. colleges Posted: Wed 11:19 PM, Feb 11, 2015 By: Press release Home / Sports / Headlines List / Article After Tuesday night Mishawaka, Ind. – After Tuesday night's overtime win against Huntington University Bethel College men's basketball coach Mike Lightfoot achieved yet another milestone becoming the all-time winningest head coach at a four-year Indiana college with 735 career wins. Lightfoot passes legendary coach Paul Patterson who reached 734 wins at Taylor University during his 34-year stint with the Trojans. In his 28th season as the Bethel College skipper Lightfoot has won 73.3 percent of the games he's coached in (735-267). Under Lightfoot's watch, the Pilots have won three NAIA and four NCCAA national championships, 18 Crossroads League regular season and tournament titles and made eleven NAIA national championship tournament appearances. In those eleven appearances, Lightfoot has coached the Pilots to three national championships, tied for the most of any program in Division II history, a national runner-up and a Final Four. The Pilots are the only team to win back-to-back national championships and appear in three straight national championship games (97-98-99). Lightfoot is the 20th-quickest coach in men's college basketball history to 700 career wins, doing so in only 960 games, and the 3rd-quickest in NAIA history. He has won more games than all previous seven Bethel coaches combined (735-441). The Pilots have been equally successful in the classroom under Lightfoot. In his first 27 years, Lightfoot has graduated just over 98 percent of his players who have completed their eligibility. 31 Scholar Athletes, 26 Academic All-Conference players and 6 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Teams have been under the tutelage of the veteran coach. The Pilots are currently ranked No. 8 in the nation with a record of 23-4

Interesting read about Coach Knight, Thoughts?

As Someone very close to Indiana basketball from '85-'88, I can say personally that many of the stories are fabricated, many are true. Coach Knight was very private outside of Assembly Hall. He did his best to remain inconspicuous to avoid contact with the general populace. It was not unusual to cross paths with him in area restaurants, but usually he would be seated with other coaches in a closed or otherwise separated area in the establishments. That way he wouldn't be asked for so many autographs. He didn't hang around out in public, on campus, etc... Frustration would boil over, then calm would come over him, and take him to a whole other place. For instance, 1987, late in the season, players were tired, coaches were tired. Players came into practice, Coach knight had them line up on the baseline. He had a fishing rod in his hand. He went on to describe how great fly fishing was, about how that was his favorite activity, etc... Then he asked, "any of you boys know how to cast a fly?", no one responded. He went through the line of players one by one teaching how to cast a fly rod, having each of them aim for the free throw circle. You just couldn't figure him out, but sometimes even he knew when enough was enough.

Send them to KU. As far as IUs moral values go, the campus has been taken over by morally devoid, leftist hippie professors. They exhibit no morals. I meant that we should be moral in recruiting, following the NCAA rules we've agreed upon as a member. P.S. This post should not be construed as an insult to morally devoid, leftist hippie types.

Wayne, I pay for my daughter's IU education in full, no grants, nothing. She is an excellent student, 3.87 at a great Catholic high school, no scholarship. There has to be more emphasis on the value of the education, if the recruits can't understand that their education is valued at $100,000 over four years, with gear and everything else probably closer to 125,000. Besides that, for those who don't go pro, what better business network is there? I'm just saying, got to find the right kids with morals, and a work ethic to be successful.
