Great game. IU is still a young team, Yogi could've made a better decision near the end of the game, we missed shots that we made last game.

Grandpa says,"Fire Crean", so we can be a championship team again! And don't forget mommy and daddy should have an opinion since they foot the bill, unless Uncle Sam is, in which case it comes back to me anyway!!

  12. Do you believe that the trustees decide on the path athletics takes? I'm just curious to see who people perceive as the leaders in IU athletics.
  13. What do they get? Tickets? Access? Influence?
  14. Coaches are hired, ticket allocations set, facility rehabs prioritized, etc,... There is a great deal of influence exerted over the athletic department at any given moment. For example, rehab of Assembly Hall, $40 mil to dress up a poorly designed arena. Who should have influence over rehab or demo? Who decides what sport gets the latest and greatest? These things are not decided by Glass alone. Students or Alum? Who do you think sets the tone in athletics, and who do you think should be more influential in the decision making?

The fans aren't going to the games?

Amen. That's the way it was in the past, and should be now. Fewer games for students makes them treasure their tickets more, and attend games they've got. I guess there is the rub, do you want seats filled, or do you want more student tickets allotted? If you want both, it won't happen. Not all students are die-hard sports fans, some view sports as an entertainment option or a social event. Therefore, going to the games holds lesser value than other activities when the weathers bad, or when there is a party to go to, etc..., When more tickets go public, the investment in tickets is such that skipping games doesn't make economic sense, if nothing else. If people scalp tickets, so what. It's a chance for those who otherwise can't afford the cost of a season of tickets to take their kids to a game.

You think cheering fans drown out calling screens? No. I'm just saying fans add to the game atmosphere, but don't win or lose games. If you want seats full for teams like the current one, with the current ticket allotment, it's time for a venue that is built for viewing the game. Assembly Hall has arguably the worst seating in the nation. Balcony seats, whether center or corner, are worthless, unless you enjoy watching the game on the scoreboard. Lower arena, if under the balconies, are nearly as bad. The only good seats are the $50000 court side Varsity Club and Foundation seats.

It's harder to gauge distance against the backdrop of different arenas. Minnesota's raised floor, for instance, gives a deceptively open view of a baseline shot that makes it hard to gauge, looks like your shooting for miles. Just like shooting at home in your backyard, changes to the background and court colors, etc..., affect play. Why do you think Cook hall looks just like the assembly hall floor? No, air currents don't alter a shot unless you shoot the ball very high, but fans seated on the court perimeter do. Michigan State field house was a perfect example. Fans could slap players(and did) because of their close proximity to the court. In that case fans did have an impact, but their court was an exception. No martinis, yes hiphiphooray!

The fans aren't going to the games?

They were Apple barrels, and yes, I am saying that the fans do not make the difference between wins and losses. Any player that plays in the high level of concentration it takes to be a GREAT player will tell you that they are oblivious to extemporaneous influence. The only time the impact felt is during breaks in action(timeouts) or pre-game. One thing I can't stomach are fans that take credit for a team's success. Noise only affects gameplay when words are necessary, not true with basketball. That's why changes in offensive and defensive sets are done with signaling. In the old days, our fans didn't storm the court, or use other colleges gimmicks because we treated winning as business as usual. We didn't have the look-at-me pose to prove our prowess, instead we laid waste to our opponent, stacked them like cordwood(or Apple barrels). Fans do give a boost, but they don't win games. Great team play wins games. Despite tradition, I would love to see a new arena where fans don't HAVE to stand to see the game. I'd love to see it filled for every game, not just with students, but with families, young kids, grandparents, all who attend for the love of the game and old IU. It's tough to do without a championship season when over half the seats have a sucky view of the court.

The fans aren't going to the games?

[quote name="MartintheMopMan" post="138111" timestamp="1424203859"]The idea of sitting in the student section blows my mind. What happened to the "Stand-up old people" kids? No one should be sitting and passively watching the game while you're there, if you are you're missing the point. The reason that the Hall intimidates other teams and we have such a stellar win record there isn't because of the building, it's because of the fans. If you're not willing to be part of that then it's best you stay the hell out. Really? The stellar win record is because of the fans standing, yelling, wiggling fingers? Sonny, when winning the big ten(10 teams then) and bringing championship banners home were commonplace, we didn't need the hooplah. We watched games, yelled and cheered, but IU was different than other basketball arenas. We didn't copy other schools and their hopping, yelling oooooooh during the opponents possession or free throws. Our players did our talking for us. We were never arrogant or naive enough to believe that our cheers really won games. If you've ever played a sport, and got in tune with it, you realize the fallacy of the " sixth man". Great players play in a zone that makes one oblivious to sights and sounds away from the immediate action. It's not easy to describe to those who have not experienced it. Only during breaks in play do players experience their surroundings. If we really want seats full for home games, we need to stop renovation of an arena that has more poor seats than good ones, level the Hall, and build an arena that is made for fans and not just to copy the design of the football stadium.

Another thing I noticed is that there are more tickets allotted to students than in the past. If you have class, or a study group you may not be able to attend, and with the large apportionment, it's no wonder there are empty seats. Hell, my daughter missed three games last fall because of class conflict.

The fans aren't going to the games?

Came down for Michigan, couldn't get a ticket, used to be if you got a student ticket, you could buy up to admit, box office will not allow it. Always used to be scalpers outside, now none. Part of the reason it's not full is that out of towners just can't get a hold of unused tickets like they used to. Now if you don't have tickets lined up when you hit the lot, you're screwed.

Wacko environmentalists are good for Indiana farmers though. I know an egg farmer with 1.5million chickens here in Indiana, and because of California's environmental laws 90% of his eggs end up in Cali bellies. EnvironmentLism wins again, $3 a doz. eggs from Indiana!

I'd like to know what health risks the environment and the consumer face, and if I'm sure that there are farms in Indiana raising penned hogs for slaughter. We need to stop assigning human attributes to dumb animals. A hog is unlike humans in many ways, including the fact that they will eat their own sh.. and like it. Stories about how livestock is raised, for this reason is better left untold.

    NCAA Considering Freshman Ineligibility

Right on, but most shady teams like older players. Perfect example, UNLV 1990 team, average age 25, all straight to the NBA or prison. Let KU continue, enough rope will hang them.
