Playing against former Hoosier Ori Velasquez http://www.iuhoosiers.com/sports/w-soccer/mtt/velasquez_orianica00.html

Find me evidence that IU is taking more risks on kids with bad backgrounds. Until then it seems to me at any school these are isolated incidents,
-
Those are interesting stats although I am not sure what conclusions you can make when the range of arrests for schools only goes from 0 to 5 even if IU is at 4. Yes we are close to the top but I would guess if you dug into long term trends the schools that get 0 arrests and the schools that get 5 arrests is pretty much random. We are talking about hundreds of student athletes at each school. These are 18-22 year olds, many of which come from tough socio-economic backgrounds. The underlying issue of these arrests goes much deeper than anything the administration is doing at any school.

We've had a McDonalds All American in 5 straight classes. What are you even talking about? -

Yeah because we haven't signed any elite recruits in recent years. -
What a shame and waste of talent.

Didn't see this posted anywhere else but thought it was worthy of its own thread. There are some great pictures of the IU Basketball reunion from this weekend on the Indiana Basketball Facebook page. It is great to see Hoosiers from all eras come together to celebrate the program. Looked like a great event. I remember a certain conversation on a certain former basketball player's radio show earlier this year about how IU under Crean isn't doing a thing for former players of the program. If I had to guess he won't bring that up today.

Gonna put a couple of links here you to peruse. He has honored the past with enthusiasm throughout his tenure. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IEFOc5GMU6c - From his first Hoosier Hysteria http://btn.com/2011/11/20/indiana-to-honor-1987-national-title-team-dec-4/ - Honored 1987 team in 2011 http://www.iuhoosiers.com/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/111312aad.html - Honored 1953 team in 2012 He also brought the old players back for this year's Hoosier Hysteria to present the new players with candy stripes. In one of his first years he brought back the 1983 fan banner. Before every game there is a video tribute to the history of IU Basketball. This video was instituted under Crean.

Weak Indiana HS Senior Class

I think it was the opposite. We offered for 2011 and he decided to be 2012. Regardless there was mutual interest. -
If you're talking about Crean you are totally wrong.
-
I agree with you on what his focus should be. I think you somewhat mis characterize who ultimately decides to have events like this. I am sure Crean had a big hand in it. If they did this it was ultimately his decision even if he didn't work on the nitty gritty details of it. Crean has gotten criticism for this in the past so worth noting what he has done.

That picture above is mostly 2002 guys but that was not from the event and must be a dinner from earlier in the weekend. Hopefully this link works but you can see guys from every era here http://www.iuhoosiers.com/view.gal?id=181313 At least one player from every B1G and National Championship team from 1953 to present was in attendance for the reunion.
-
Maybe, but Crean also did this his first summer as IU coach so I don't think he did this because of anything Dakich or Landon said in that conversation. He also has brought back and honored a number of championship teams before games in addition to having a large group of players at Hoosier Hysteria for multiple years.

UM Graduate Transfer Max Bielfeldt To IU
TheStillman replied to rebelhoosier848891's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
If we lose to Michigan it won't be because they had extra incentive to beat Max. -
I would say Troy working on what he needs to make it to the NBA is not mutually exclusive from working on what he needs in order for IU to be successful. I think Troy will be an unstoppable force if he can shoot close to 40% from 3. Doesn't mean that's all he'll do. It's just another weapon in his arsenal. Also the report from the camp above doesn't say it is 3s he's even shooting

You could argue that the talent in Minnesota will be better than Chicago next year. -
The new entrance is going to look excellent

The discussion in this thread is exactly the same as the discussion when we signed NZ last year. You never know what the ultimate impact is and I think most of us agree that we wish we were bringing in another 6'11" player who could potentially start. But given the time of year that just isn't happening. The fact is we just lost 2 of our big men I think this is a great way to replace them. -

We need some big man depth and if we sign Max we gain some of that. His per game averages last year were 15 minutes with 5.1 pts and 3.1 boards in the exact same league. His game log includes a 7 pt , 9 rebound performance vs MSU, 12 pt 7 rebounds vs Illinois and 14 pts and 11 rebounds versus Rutgers. He will provide us depth and some strength down low in the case of foul trouble. I can't believe anyone would be against him coming in. He doesn't need to be all league. He just needs to be someone who can provide depth when TB needs a breather. -

I kind of wish we had a bruiser like Mike White on this roster -
If you wanted him fired two years ago then you would say he is escaping accountability. I would argue that pressure put on by fans across the board online and in person at games is holding him accountable. He's had beat writers call for his head. The University ultimately hasn't made the move but I think with the team we have coming back next year and the universe of coaches available this year, keeping Crean for a year was the right move. Look at it this way, we save $4 million by not paying him and a new coach this year. That money can be saved and used to make sure we get the right guy next time and not just a new guy. I don't think many, if any, people will use that excuse. Losing those two hurts our depth but not the ceiling of this team. Our biggest wins last year came without those two in the lineup. I haven't talked to an IU fan who thinks Crean will deserve another year next year if we don't make it past the sweet 16.
-
I say this year is make or break because the expectations are high from the get go. If we flame out this year and end up as a 6 seed or worse and get bounced in the round of 32 or 16 I think the coaching change will be made. If we do really well, end up as a top 3 seed and go to the elite 8 Crean will still be around. 2016-17 we may be thin but we also may not. A starting lineup of Rojo/JBJ/Hartman/Bryant/Rawles could be really dangerous.
-
I like how many of you post that Crean is escaping accountability for anything within the program yet for the past year almost every thread on here and elsewhere has turned into a chance to bash Crean. Do a Twitter search for Tom Crean, read comments on any facebook post from the IU Basketball account, look at comments on any story about IU online, there's plenty of criticism of coach and people holding him accountable. This is his make or break year and he's going to be held accountable. I'm glad he stayed because it allowed us to see what this core can do as veterans with a legit big man.

You're obscuring my point so go ahead and re-read what I wrote. Have any of them written follow up reports? Have any said this is a big deal? What else would you expect to come up when you search his name?
