He is not going anywhere this year so we should be pulling for him to have the best team possible to have a successful year. I don’t care who the coach is, I want them to be successful so the program is successful. If he fails then Dolson will take care of it next year.

The idea that we have a giant war chest is amusing to me. Yup we have a ton of money but need to buy a roster of players. Other programs can focus their money on 1-2 players, so don’t need the massive war chest that IU supposedly has.

X's and O's are the least of my concern with a guy like Shrews. Shrews leading a team playing almost all true freshman and sophomores to a KenPom defensive rating of 30 is a pretty remarkable feat. Put this guy in a situation where he isn't trying to compete against a top tier football program and you might have something.
I think Shrews and Abdur-Rahim are the list for me at this point. Next season will be telling for both.

Just now, kreigh8 said:Ahh, thanks. Missed that. Thought the post was about Crean being IU's Beilein with how he'd advised Michigan. Dakich at least wasn't given the axe by IU. Poor moment for some sarcasm
Dakich will tell Dolson to hire Alford. He has been on that train for a long time.

On one hand Crean will tell him the admin issues and fam expectations. But then the IU president can explain what’s changed since Crean has left and the direction the new administration wants to go.

Abdur-Rahim was a Crean assistant at UGA

I’d guess low. His buyout at Michigan hasn’t been released yet. But why take the Michigan job if you want to go to IU in a year? He doesn’t seem to be that type of guy to me.

1 minute ago, WayneFleekHoosier said:I wouldn't be mad about that. Seems like a talented coach.
Thats where I’m at too. Definitely open to him as a possibility, especially if he backs up his first year at USF.

Evidently John Beilein helped the Michigan AD identify 4 candidates: Dusty May, Darian DeVries, Niko Medved, and Amir Abdur-Rahim. All mid- major guys with success.
If IU has a similar list next year I bet it’s Abdur-Rahim. He was at Kennesaw State when a certain IU president used to work there. He led them to their first D1 winning record in program history. Hit the ground running in year 1 at South Florida, 25-8 (including post season) and won the AAC regular season. If he backs that up next year, he is our mid major guy imo.
edit: Also beat FAU and Florida State in year 1.

For the Dusty May fans, might not want to read. Rather good read and breakdown. Honestly makes you wonder what the hell the IU Administration is thinking. SMH.

1 minute ago, steubenhoosier said:Yes, he lost his team this year but would Holtman be an option in a year. Had some really good teams. Knows the league and can recruit. Can’t believe DePaul would have a huge buyout
I thought Holtmann said he didn’t want to be in a fishbowl like IU. DePaul might be the best place for him.

We are a Marquette house, unless they play IU. Then it’s a house divided. But I like Shaka and will be pulling for them the rest of the way. Oh and everyone who plays Purdue.

IMO they have a far higher opinion of their game than what they can actually provide and if they don't get what they want, they move on. And again IMO that can't be good for the locker room.

Never met him but my wife has. Her opinion is he is very smart and can navigate the politics of IU. Which leads me to believe he has a plan and is likely waiting until he can move on that plan. No inside scoop there just a guess.

17 minutes ago, JSHoosier said:The people in charge care that he played there though.
If big money donors said "Woodson goes or I don't donate to men's basketball" that'd get their attention.
Yeah I get it. I just don’t relate to that type of thinking. Never have and never will. Nepotism is never the correct way to run an organization.

2 minutes ago, RaceToTheTop said:In the last 12 seasons, Kentucky has been in the top 10 of the final poll 5 times. Not sure I'd call it almost guaranteed. What's also interesting is that Cal had a 13 year string where Kentucky was top 10 to start the year but only finished in the top ten 6 times.
So you’re saying Cal could have us in the top 20 5 times in a decade? When was the last time IU had that? Sign me up. lol

375-171 record and now 10-10 in NCAA, Final 4 with VCU and is still in his 40’s. Emotional, good X’s and O’s and his teams are always good shooters and love to turn teams over with speed!
He is underrated in my opinion, I know Texas didn’t work out but has demonstrated excellence at basketball first schools.
I’d take Shaka for sure. Not sure he will leave Marquette though. I can see him there for the rest of his career.

1 hour ago, JSHoosier said:He's only had 3 years and played here over 40 years ago, they'll look like a bunch of meanies.
Im 42 and his playing days means absolutely zero to me. This might seem harsh but even players I do remember playing I wish them well in their lives but that’s the extent of it. I wouldn’t hire them for a job just bc they played for IU. And I wouldn’t hesitate to fire someone just because they played for IU.
-
1 minute ago, JSHoosier said:Won't matter. IU doesn't want the black eye of firing a program legend, no matter how deserved it is, they care way too much about optics.
Ironically it’s a black eye to keep him. They actually have their logic backwards.

Its who I would have my eyes on as a mid major option for IU in a year or 2 if there isn’t a power 5 coach ready to come.
