After the shell shock of the past several seasons, a healthy dose of skepticism is warranted. However, I see a team with tremendous growth potential and one that can begin to build the continuity we've been missing. I really like the guys we are recruiting and what they can bring. Last year everything that could go wrong went wrong. I don't think anyone on the team wants to go through that again. This group has the potential, and I think they will, to be greater than the some of the parts. I'm not an overly optimistic person, just ask my wife! But I think the coming season is going to be a lot of fun.

I'm right with you on Green. I'm a sucker for high ceiling guys and waiting on them to figure things out. I'm still waiting for the Charlie Miller breakout... I wasted way too much time trying to defend Green last year :).
And agreed, the negativity can be really frustrating. Making a negative observation and then proposing a solution (i.e. the offense is struggling, I wish Archie would implement x, y , and z) can lead to a fun, productive conversation. Posting that we're losing recruiting momentum and are going to be no better last year, while maybe true, and certainly possible, is just negative to be negative. And that is definitely a minority of posts. But it only takes a few posts like that to derail and bring down the conversation.
We all know that last year was bad, and nobody is going to be thrilled if the team is no better this year. But it seems like every time there's conversation about a decent recruit, somebody jumps in with the groundbreaking observation that recruiting momentum seems to have slowed and that Archie is going to have a hard time bringing in recruits unless Indiana starts winning... We all know that. Even those of us who prefer to focus on the glass half full approach to next year understand that another year or 2 like these past 2 would be too much to overcome. Even though the statement is technically true, its sole purpose seems to be to bring down any excitement that others have for the future. And what's the point of following IU basketball without some hope in the future? Following IU is supposed to be fun. And hopefully it's more fun this year than it was last year!

I find myself personally in the middle of the optimists and pessimists.....but mostly from the viewpoint that my position doesn't make a difference in reality.  If I only looked for the good, as an IU football fan I'd have ulcers by now.
What I have found frustrating personally is that it's hard to bring up an optimistic statement on this board without being attacked (and this is 100% not directed on any one individual).  I certainly hear the same pessimistic statement/developments as others but those already get covered/stated.  Not bringing them up doesn't mean someone hasn't heard them, it just means that I don't have anything more to add to the conversation if it has been discussed fully.
Let me bring up a couple of players just for context:  DeVonte Green and Justin Smith.  I have probably as high of an opinion of Green's game as anybody on here.  Conversely, I am a Justin Smith naysayer.  But I tend not to add much to the Justin Smith conversations because what I have to say has already been said.  I don't talk much about Smith because what I am going to bring up isn't going to add to the conversation....I mean I could say the exact same thing as other people are saying, but it really wouldn't add anything.  I'll just like their post and move on.
With Green on the other hand, I feel what I put may add to the conversation because it offers an alternate view.
I think too often people are getting labeled as optimists or pessimists based on singular statements and people get taken to task when they provide a unique view.  I know I've been guilty of that.

I don’t think it’s fair. I’d say he hasn’t surpassed or disappointed. Archie has IU on track, or on pace, for where expectations were when hired. It’s always been a 3 year plan. If we miss the NCAA’s in year 3, then yes it’s disappointing. If we make the tournament then we are still on track. If we make a run, then we are exceeding expectations.
Year 1, kept class together, worked on APR, wins and losses were about where everyone expected.
Year 2, solid recruiting class that sets the foundation. Improved on wins and losses. Made a NIT run. On track.
Year 3. He needs to improve on W-L, make NCAA’s, land another solid class of 4 year players.
Above have been my expectations since day 1. The same expectations I had for Crean. The same I would have for any new coach at IU.

Hahaha... agree x1000. Seek professional help, my fellow IU fan friend. Making yourself feel a little better at the cost of making everyone else miserable isn't a great look for a guy your age. Just saying.

DJ was a miss no doubt. Nothing more and nothing less. Honestly it hurt UM worse since day of they were expecting him. I am not sure you can say it hurt worse since he went to OSU. Again, maybe for Michigan. Personally, it doesn’t matter to me where a kid goes if it’s not IU unless the kid is from this state and we are recruiting him from the get go like Brooks. That one hurt. But dwelling on missed recruits isn’t my cup of tea. My personality is to support who we got. Now if Archie doesn’t start winning it doesn’t really matter. He will be gone. He won’t get fired for missing recruits with how he is recruiting. He will get fired for performance. Then in a couple of years we can have reactions and over reactions in both directions.
I keep seeing he has to prove something to keep people happy. It’s May 9th. What could he possibly prove now? Getting upset on May 9th won’t change anything. His bed is made. He goes with the team he has. If he wins, cool. If he doesn’t? Cool. We will all live and move on. I think people are getting upset from people’s lack of a strong opinion on this. It isn’t other people are smarter than others. It’s just not everybody gets so worked up over this stuff. Not everything is perfect and at some point he has to just win. Red flags for some isn’t something others honestly care about. It’s end results. Part of that is not every recruit pans out based on ranking or whatever. It’s May 9th. We should be more worried about the players improving in the gym. That is how we will improve. There is no player LQ included that will be making that big of a difference to get this worked up over. That possibility ended in April.

Coming into the season, it seemed like Archie's focus was on TJD, Brooks, and Franklin/Newman. He hit on 2 out of 3. So he had 1 pretty important failure this year, but that's not out of the ordinary. The previous class was pretty much all success.
He's scuffling to try to find the Brooks replacement, but he's also not settling. He could easily fill that spot, but he's proving that he's not going to spend a 4 year scholarship on somebody that he doesn't think is going to be an impact player

How are we on option G?  Guys, you really need to simmer down.  TJD is a burger boy that will stay multiple years, Franklin fits Archie's mold perfectly who i am very excited about, Brunk checks off a lot of boxes....sorry guys the intel i got on Brooks was different, he liked IU but his focus is on the NBA and who can get him there the fastest.  Can you blame a NC kid for choosing UNC?  Watford was never coming here.
My biggest problem with our message boards (other boards included) is that we convince ourselves that just b/c there are a couple tie ins we lead for every kid.  As far as 2020 kids, let's see how it plays out before stepping off the ledge.
**EDIT** All our 2019 kids are from where?  Archie cannot win with this fanbase

I did account for attempts (on a per game basis), so I don't know what you're talking about.  Best of luck finding more accuracy with your math once the toddler can be freed from your arms.
I'm busy too, or I would run the numbers differently to find the overall attempts and makes per player, but for general purposes this will suffice.  I ran the numbers by a per game basis, which regardless if it meets your expectations, it's still not "bad stats".
I'm not usually one to get crappy, but your first line is "this is bad stats".  It's not.

Disappointed in the way that the chips fell (injuries in general), but love seeing the potential of this team.  I'm not a gloom and doom person, so I'm happy to cheer these guys however I can, and see what next year brings!

Haven’t been on here in awhile with a family death, other serious family illness and the arrival of my 3rd grand baby. This board has gone crazy. Gotta give Coach Miller 2 or 3 more years to get this ship righted. I know it’s painful to watch at times, but I still have faith he will get it done. He don’t actually shoot the ball for them. Stay strong Hoosier Nation.

I don’t have a problem still being positive. I hate to lose also, but we went into a road game against arguably one of the best teams in the nation with one of the best coaches in the nation with about two thirds of a team and left with a loss by 11. It’s easy to pick apart every detail, but my god...
The slow start thing is a reality that needs fixed, but hard to argue the overall effort tonight. I was expecting worse.
Still love my Hoosiers and still like Archie.

P.S. Jordan Morgan turned it on in the 2nd!

I feel like a not in my backyard old timer, but it seems like this board had more intelligent discussion before a large portion of newer posters came in with constant complaining. I was an optimist and guys like schoosier were hard out on Crean from early only and we butted heads often, but there was in depth debate and discussion when those sides disagreed.

Now I feel like I come on here and just have to scroll through 4 pages of one sentence garbage repeating the same complaint.

Out with the old and in with the new:
    Newkirk < Phinisee
    Johnson < Langford
Hartman < Anderson (since Colin was injured, healthy I think he would have contributed much more consistently)
McSwain = Forrester (being generous to Jake here since Freddie really came on late in the year.
    Priller < Fitzner
    Jones < Hunter
Obviously this is a paper comparison, but am I wrong? Hasn't IU upgraded with every transition? Experience is about all that we lose....and sadly Josh didn't play like a 5th year PG very often. Priller & Jones didn't contribute anything.
I'm so excited, and I just can't hide it. I'm about to lose control and I think I like it!

We've got an open scholarship, and we need another big guy. Is there a better grad transfer big out there we could get? Maybe, I really don't know. But, if we don't use the scholarship it goes to waste. I see nothing wrong with this. If it doesn't pan out then we don't lose anything because it's only for one year.
