24 minutes ago, Trish said:Gosh, once Woodson is fired next spring I'm worried the list of candidates won't be that appealing. I mean OSU, Louisville, and even Michigan didn't make too splashy of a hire.
I'm rooting the best for Dusty at Michigan.
It really was about as uninspiring result as possible. Dusty to Michigan is really interesting. Diebler won't intimidate but he's probably decent. And Louisville struck-out kind of but you never know how its going to work out. They can't be worse.
When are we adding a coach or whatever it is we are doing?

Not me. I would love to get him. Love McNeely for our needs, I’ll probably love Tucker too. Just would like it to be with Mgbako instead of in place of.

Agreed.

Hope I'm wrong, but I have a feeling we're going to be taken aback by how much slower and less athletic we are compared to them.
Felt that way in a few games this year. Even the Oklahoma game to an extent. This will be that exponentially. But if we can hit shots, you just never know. But this is an all timer type team in South Carolina.

Just saw, according to ESPN, South Carolina has an 84% chance of winning this game....time to shock the world!
Only 84% as a 16.5 point favorite? I’ll take those odds.

I get the sentiment on Perkins, but strictly looking at him from an individual standpoint, he’s a multi-year double figure scoring in a major conference who is a plus two way player. Those don’t grow on trees.
But you can’t do that and create a winning team. If you have a team full of shooters and add a Perkins. Maybe. But that’s what Iowa was, and they were never very good either.
When your 2G can’t shoot, that 2G needs to play 1 or your 1,3,4 need to be shooters. Need 3 shooters on the floor if you want spacing for your 2 bigs.

Tyme is NGW who announced his retirement from here fyi.
Sure is. He’s been right about everything so far, no? He’s connected to the staff somehow.

Tyme and a couple linked to him.

A Perkins/Galloway backcourt is basically an X/Galloway backcourt with worse shooting and slightly better ball security. I refuse to believe that's the plan.
Exactly. So why even pursue it at all and waste whatever effort it takes. Which is my point in the end. Do we know what we want or what we are looking for?
You don’t have to pursue every guy in the portal. But then again, maybe we do.

OSU goes down. The Thornton pursuit can now be actualized.

What’s criminal is wanting a Ferrari that’s not for sale.
Find someone similar. Oh wait, we had McNeely who was probably as close to a Sandfort Comp as you can get and lost him. Wishing Hickman is anything like either of those 2 isn’t sound logic or scouting. Our staff hasn’t proven to be good at scouting so it all adds up. (Sparks, X, Durr, Ledlum…….).
Now when they realize we need to prioritize shooting we go after Perkins when we already have Gallo? 2 guards who can’t shoot.
FWIW Identified these rosters issues last off-season too when apparently our staff was too googily eyed to see them themselves that lead to this mess we are in now.

Georgia melting down so bad you’d think clappy was still their coach. Bucknuts on a 17-0 run
My Georgia +8.5 was looking so good. Lol.
And Battle is the type of guy you gotta have. Such a difference maker being a respected shot maker. Opens everything up.

As painful as is it might be, I’ll still be tuned in. We can slow the pace a little more and shoot less 3s. Defend a little better and win some ugly basketball games.

Burners have had eighteen different head coaches for Louisville this offseason.
A few particular IU burners that have been right about everything. That’s who I’m following. I don’t care about Louisville’s coaching search and whatever burners are attached to that.

Peyton Sandfort: not in the portal.Tony Perkins: in the portal and at this point IU has contacted.
Sounds like a team doing their due diligence. It's not like every player IU has contacted is a Tony Perkins clone whose game is centered on things that aren't shooting centric.
I'm also unsure why you would like Peyton Sandfort so much but think that Connor Hickman would be a big mistake. Obviously Sandfort is a better player but the qualities you like in Sandfort are in Hickman's game.
Indiana really wants Perkins. And Thornton. Burners have been hinting at both for days. I don’t like what Perkins offers. Forces drives, trying to get fouled. Doesn’t shoot it well.
As far as Hickman vs Sandfort it’s not even close. It’s Ford vs Ferrari.
6’3” vs 6’7” . one does it vs top competition and shoots the toughest of shots. One doesn’t miss FTs. The other is average. Sandfort is definitely not just a shooter. Moves off the ball so well. Constantly making defenders work. Plays with 100% hustle and attitude. Hickman is a pretty good shooter on lesser volume against lesser competition and the FT numbers are indicative. Comparing these 2 is criminal.

I think everybody would take Thornton over Perkins. But as of now, only one of them is available.
Burners say we are going after both of them.

So apparently Tony Perkins is our new Bruce Thornton. Lol. I don’t love it, but I’m sure others will. The only Iowa player I want is Peyton Sandfort. Iowa will just play Dix and not skip a beat, and we will do whatever it is that Perkins does.

Pay Peyton Sandfort a cool million. I really don’t want to watch a Tony Perkins lead Hoosiers team. This is gonna be so frustrating.
Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners mobile appMikeRoberts reacted to this -
Him and his 29% 3 point percentage will fit right in.
Precisely. Have the chance to build the team you want and this is our decision? He’s Galloway who shoots FTs slightly better.

- That's 13.
- That pretty certainly will not be the 13 we end up with.
- That's a bunch of guards, though using three guards at once is an option.
- Feels like an island of misfit toys, though ya never know how it will work or shake out.
Exactly. Here’s my thing. You are what your top 8 are. Get 8 guys that fit and the best 8 you can get. Building blocks 9-13 or whatever your end of bench strategy is. I really think having 10 what needs aimed for but play 8. Then if injuries, you don’t have as much excuse

Count Hickman as another one that doesn’t resonate with me. We have 4 guards on the roster now. 1 can and probably will start. We have 3 likely backups. We need 2 starter types in my opinion. I don’t see Hickman or Walker as that to me.
maybe since we had no guards last year Woody wants 8 of them. Confusing times.
