Transfer Portal w IU Interest
WayneFleekHoosier replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Just wanted to add a comment on the bag dropping. Id recommend the fanbase not villainize the bag dropping from Indiana but instead be happy we can win bag drops now. its been going on for eternity in college basketball and for the most part those dropping the biggest bags are winning the most games. I can pretty much assure you if we stop dropping bags the fanbase will have a lot more to worry about than we already do. id recommend embracing it and just leaving it out of the equation. It’s been a part of high level recruiting forever and now it just expands into mid level recruiting as well. Be happy we can compete in that for now and cross your fingers the staff uses its salary cap wisely. -
Strong likelihood it’s Michigan state imo. Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners mobile app

MYLES RICE (PG,6’3”) TO INDIANA
WayneFleekHoosier replied to Stuhoo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I want to see guards penetrating and MM taking 7-8 threes a game on catch and shoot. Maybe a backcut from any player on the court? Maybe a baseline cut oppo from a guard drive? Kudos to Myles, Indiana, and Staff. If we get Ballo, Carlyle. Return TG, MR, MM. And add BT. Does the media respect Woodson enough to preseason rank that talent? Nah, it’s way worse than blaming 1 player. It’s a problem. As is losing in general. Built at top 25 and haven’t acted like it from the onset. Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners mobile app -

I’m in the middle. My heart roots like hell that we will have enough talent that things click and we overcome. My head/brain awaits the product when we are all saying why arent we shooting and hitting more 3’s. And moving off the ball. And boxing out, and doing the little things that are necessary to win. But I’m going to be optimistic that at least we are spending money to fulfill Woody’s wishes and WILL have a lot of great talent to root for. Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners mobile app -

Doesn’t appear we have what it takes to target and land the biggest of fish. Moren and staff seem to hit more than not, so, curious to see who it ends up being. Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners mobile app -

I feel like some other programs are taking the moneyball analytics approach in portal and we are trying to build the best fantasy team. I hope Woodson and Indiana can have a big year. I genuinely think Woodson and his Burners go the fan blaming route if it doesn’t work out. Scorched earth on the fans is the last thing we need as a program. It is fun winning recruiting battles. No doubt Kentucky is in a dazed and confused mode with winning recruiting vs winning on the court. Let’s do both. -

If Carlyle, Rice, Ballo happen. That’s our projected “possible starters”. Grace college BIG is high likelihood to be a backup. MAYBE 1 more guard. 1 more “shooter Wing” maybe. Color me curious what they are trying to cook up. As I said a month ago, Cupps may be our Essegian this year and that would be a good thing. Perfect depth piece though. Want to see Newton play at some point. Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners -

Insert prayer emoji? I doubt it though, we don’t seem to be at the level to land the biggest fish yet. Nil? Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners mobile app -

Lots of yuck on the diamond this year. Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners -
Most intriguing portal targets Indiana isn’t targeting strongly. 1) Wade Taylor (this years Caleb Love) 2). Javon Small (I think he’s better than the guards we prioritized) 3). Jordan Pope (In the mix. I like him quite a bit) 4.) Aaron Bradshaw (Klutch gonna Klutch. This years Ware?) 5.) Jalen Blackmon. Love the family. Kid can flat out shoot. I very curious to see how he stacks up at the next level. 6) Johnuel Davis (Does Michigan get him and Goldin? McNeely? Dusty gonna be a pest 7). Frankie Fidler- He ain’t Dalton Knecht, or is he? Nah. Fundamentals, including box outs would help immensely as well. The effort to offensive rebound whatsoever (Mgbako was getting better). And winning guards with instincts and hustle to win long rebounds. Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners mobile app -

Maybe Payne is willing to be a backup for the right amount of money and the chance to be on a good team? Im just spitballing but with the numbers we are throwing around I rule nothing out. -

Genuinely curious what UK's roster looks like for next season. NIL and Kentucky will sell. But Pope, differently. Cal was in tight with Nike and other industry peeps that seemed to help him. Does that translate to Pope? Is that a Kentucky thing? Or does it follow Cal? -

And on that note. getting good results and not dividing the fanbase i'd imagine will help with those wishes. -

I certainly hope we can be top 5 nil money under Woodson or whoever is next annually. I hope is this isn't a one-off to try to save Woodson his job. Needs to be a commitment going forward. -

I do think unloading and reloading is going to be the way things go for most top ended NIL programs. Woody obviously has some cache in certain circles. I usually am against Woodson (style of basketball/results) But i'm going to try to make a pro Woodson point. He had a really bad year. 19-14, 20-14 or whatever it was, but it felt and looked way worse. He lost a McD's all american. Things looked like it was rock bottom. Since then, he got a replacement McDonald's AA and is poised to land a top 5 class (If Ballo) and potentially have the talent to compete with the best. NIL money is a HUGE part of that. But other schools have NIL too. And Big Budgets. He seems to still be able to sell. We could be in a far worse place. At least we look to have talent coming in that can lead to some excitement. Now roster construction/Shooting/Style of Play/pace of play are all still huge concerns of mine. And concerns I'm not convinced are getting fixed. Woody seems to have a lot to learn to be a top winning college coach, and for selfish reasons I want to see the pace of play increase 3X, and 3 point attempts increase 3X.
