I do not like what I am seeing this year at all. I still want to give Archie four seasons (and certainly see how this season plays out). I don't see how he survives (at least the fans) if we don't make the tournament this year though.

SOS is accounted for in these metrics. We'll see how it plays out, but they're now 11-1 with a Q1 road win against us, a tourney team as of now.
Saying they aren't good is inaccurate. Didn't call them a world beater either.

I also saw someone mention Arkansas is not a good team - this is just not accurate.
KenPom has them ranked #32 and they are somewhere in the top 30ish rang last I saw in NET.

Maybe? We'll see what team shows up in 2020. FSU, UConn, and ND weren't mirages. Last night wasn't either.

1 minute ago, Josh said:It's all hearsay. Just like the rumor that the money was there for Fonovan, but McRobbie didn't want an expensive coach.
Show the money and they will come.
But the idea that we can throw enough money to make this place attractive is factual? Regardless of money, there wasn't even initial interest from names that would require big money.
Again, there's a much bigger problem that is clear to most coaches. We aren't getting calls from the Pitino's of the world anymore.

Said the same thing after another game, but 11-2.
Unfortunately, Devonte has not grown. Phin has not shown up this year, but I still have confidence he'll be an excellent upperclassmen. TJD potential departure is a major concern. Going to take big improvements from Al, Phin, and Armaan for us to have success this year and next.

What big names were even mentioned? Holtman and Marshall were probably the only other two legitimate names that came up.

2 hours ago, hoosierdaddy_72 said:This is ridiculous. Archie said in his introductory press conference that HIS top recruiting priority was in-state. The idea that a fanbase has any influence is myopic nonsense.
This couldn't be more wrong. This fanbase truly believes the only way for us to get back to greatness is the inside out approach. Lack of in-state recruiting was probably the top factor for Crean losing the fans outside of the inconsistency.

Could you imagine being posterized like that by Gelon? Gotta just go back to the locker room, change, go home, and never touch a basketball again.

Neutral site games are trash. There’s no Wat Shot magic if it’s played in Lucas Oil.
Happy to mix in a neutral site game when you make it a unique and exciting location - an hour up the road from your campus is just pointless.
Even playing it in some tiny historic high school gym would be a cool event.

It's possible to debate without belittling the other side. It's possible to disagree without insulting. Name calling to me shows an inherent lack of intelligence.
You’ve lobbed a few yourself. There are some on this board that have earned it.

Just pointing out it’s not an either or situation and the Gavitt Games + Crossroad Classic + ACC Challenge usually has us facing at least a top 20 team and two tournament teams every year.

IU has played in the Crossroads AND KU, UNC, or Duke plenty of times since 2011 or something.

I am no basketball genius but that seems flawed. How do we ever become a fluid offensive team if we aren’t even attempting to constantly get our guys open and wear teams out?
Sent from my iPhone using BtownBannersWe need guys who are consistently a threat from three. Plain and simple. Until then, it’s easy to clog the lanes and double our bigs.

He's gonna be half-IU and half-Fresno State from here till the bowl is over. No offense to him, but I think I'd rather have someone who's 100 percent all in to IU. ... A few years back, Kiffin wanted to stay at Bama for their playoff run after taking the FAU gig. After a while, Saban could see it wasn't working and cut him loose. I can't help but wonder if that wouldn't be the wisest course of action for us, too? ... That way, DeBoer can get on with the next phase of his career -- and we can have someone fully committed to the task at hand.
We have nothing to lose let the man play.

Zeisloft also played on more consistent teams. And you can make the case that Roth was a much better shooter. If only Crean gave him the chance to be on that 12-13 team... that was something we needed off the bench.

Roth was a good enough shooter to play literally anywhere in college. It made up for any other shortcomings. Zeisloft was successful on a B1G title team, Roth could have been as well.
Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile appZeisloft was a far better defender and had other elements to his game beyond catch and shoot.
This is so friggin old, and the last person on earth I want to have a pointless discussion about pointless things is Joe DeBlow. Happy holidays.

Yeah I could disagree with NoLa Hoosier more - we attracted Kalen DeBoer after a disappointing year and now we’re coming off one of our best years ever with 2 (maybe 3?) starter caliber QBs, a potential 1,000yd+ RB, strong WR and TEs, and a good OL?
We have an excellent sales pitch.

A little digging (explainations above) also provide a pretty clear and plausible explanation for Gelon. As for LOI's, who knows, but it's a pretty tough look if the kids wanted to remain committed to pull the rug out from under them in the late spring when Archie came on.
