Extend Tom Allen
Walking Boot of Doom replied to Hoosierfan2017's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
But it’s not. Everyone is completely aware of the fact that we only beat teams with a losing record AND YET... that is still exceeding expectations for one of the worst FBS programs in history. 8 wins at Indiana means you’re the man and on track to be the greatest coach we’ve ever had, without exaggeration. Is that a testament to the strength and performance of this team? Well, sort of, but it says far more about how awful this program has always been. If Tom Allen continues recruiting like he is for 5 more years, I’m confident he will be considered the most successful coach in Indiana football history. Just go look at where this program has been. Even the seemingly good times were short lived. You don’t give a 6 year extension unless you have to (aka FSU actually offered). You give him 3 more years and a large raise. You don’t do that because this year was a weak schedule. You do that because it just makes sense to see if he can create continuous success before chaining yourself to him. If CTA makes another bowl next year, I’d strongly consider another extension and raise. Next year’s schedule is definitely harder. -

This team went 3-2 on the road and 5-4 in conference. When was the last time we had winning records on the road and in conference? Tom Allen exceeded expectations this year, plain and simple. Expectations shifted throughout the season as we realized we had a better team than we expected. It sucks knowing we were really only a few plays away from being 10-2 with wins at MSU and at PSU. -

But at Indiana, no it really doesn’t. Because 8 wins regardless of opponent is a rare feat for IUFB. The recruiting success CTA has had is rare for IUFB. The fact that he loves this program and wants to be here is rare. There’s nothing to diminish. Extend the man. -

Good point. I’m heavily weighting the impact of missing our starting PG. -

Adding a couple of those guys would be huge. Really would love to add Francois as I think our secondary needs so real help. -

I get it. I think it’s also just a fan being a fan and trying to downplay a failed season. Purdue has so much cash and hope tied up in Brohm. Would be very hard as a fan to see this fail. Honestly, very much like our Archie situation. If one of the hottest young coaches can’t get it right, who will? -

No offense to Ramsey intended here. I’ll start by saying Ramsey’s decision making improved from last year and he was generally more confident which allowed him to have a bigger impact. I still stand by issues I’ve stated before, but he’s definitely improved this year and you can’t complain about winning. Very impressed by what he’s done, especially since I do believe he’s naturally limited as a passer. Now, I will give at least half the credit to DeBoer. I’m not savvy enough to understand all of the changes he implemented, but he created an offensive game plan that allows Ramsey to shine. Love all of the run options for Ramsey built in to his play calling. I’m sold that DeBoer could succeed with almost anyone at QB. -

I think people are being overly sensitive. If his handle didn’t have Boiler in he’d probably be accused of being a sunshine pumper by our resident trolls. -

The standard has been set - they haven’t missed the CFP since it started so missing it is a death toll for them. -

First year under Archie we haven’t had an early disastrous loss. The last three halves were not pretty, but the team is still playing without Phin and with Green on limited minutes it seems. What I like so far is that TJD is consistently delivering and there are a handful of others who seem to step up and have a game (Smith, Green, Durham, even Brunk has had a break out game). My expectation for this team is to make the tournament. If we do, it seems like a team that could win a game or two, probably not more. However, it’s still November and we’re not at full strength. We have young guys playing a lot of minutes who will hopefully undergo significant improvement with all the early PT. -

What? You consistently say far more obnoxious trash than this. I don’t have any history to reference here, but STLBoiler is a fine poster despite his username being two horrid things combined. I can list a few “IU fans” who post far more often who are much higher on the troll list. -

Why? Outside of those 4 years Purdue was pretty consistently bowl eligible and won 8 or so games quite often. This is Indiana’s first 8 win season since ‘93 or something. We are historically in a fight between Kansas for the title of worst FBS program in history. -

Extend him, make DeBoer one of the highest paid assistants in the B1G, five Mike Hart a large raise (its amazing that we went from McCullough to Hart), put Wommack on notice and a tight plan with expectations defined by performance metrics for next season, and for the love of all that is Hoosier get Penix healthy. Interested to see what our receiving corps look like next year. I’m assuming Whop will stay for his senior year, but admittedly I’m not at all knowledgeable when it comes to understanding whether college players are ready or should go to the draft. -
Fire or ‘Way to Go!’ Tom Allen?

EXTEND TOM ALLEN Plenty to improve upon, but he has things moving in the right direction and clearly wants to be here. -
If this is the depth of your ability to understand the different situations you listed, then there is no way anyone can have a legitimate conversation with you. I will honestly say I’m not labeling Howard a success nor failure until year three or four when we see him recruiting and building his own team. What I can say is that he’s off to a helluva a start and this Michigan team is scary. And Thanksgiving was yesterday so no passes for drunkenness.

Weird - looks like Indiana, OSU, and Louisville have all done relatively the same based on the chart

I predict this game will get many on this board hot and bothered and may even cause some to go post in some combination of the Fire Fred Glass or Fire Archie Miller threads. The best part is I will probably be right regardless of the outcome of the game. I do think this one will be uncomfortable till the end. -
I see you’re still doubting Bennett and UVA’s style of play even after you were proven completely wrong last year. What you’re saying is valid - they aren’t as strong this year and they’re without a dominant guard. However, I wouldn’t put a cieling on them in November. Let’s see how they look in February. Bennett has certainly earned the benefit of the doubt.

Wouldn’t call losing your starting QB for pretty much all the biggest games of the season relatively healthy. They played a much higher level of football this year even if we didn’t beat the big four in the East. -
