Arguably*, I never made the argument IU had more talent than the rest of the Big 1.o. Please quote me where I said MSU, O$U, and Michigan had better coaches. I would love for Woody to win a natty or make the tourney 20 something years in a row like Izzo. I would be appreciative if Woody had IU consistently making the tourney like Holtmann did to start his tenure at O$U. I would even take a couple of Sweet 16s like Michigan. Who I want and who we could pull are completely different things. Hopefully Woody can stabilize the program and some other magic can happen so when we go hunting for a new coach we have the ability to land someone who can take us to the next level. Why would I think the administration would care about my [high] expectations. They're my [high] expectations. It's how I perceive the players and coaches to determine those [high] expectations. When did just making the tourney become a high expectation?

Yes, IU arguably had as much talent as anyone in the Big 1.o last season. There is an argument that could be made that IU was the most talented team in the Big 1.o. What is my argument on finishing 2nd? Yes, IU finished T2 getting the third seed in the Big 1.o tourney in a down Big 1.o this past season. There was a way for IU to still win the Big 1.o without XJ but we reverted back to past seasons. You could put that on the players for getting all up in their feels or the coach for not correcting that last season and this season. Those teams all had quite a bit of talent and it could be argued* they had more talent than IU. One has built up a little wiggle room with what he's been able to do over several decades, another has had a solid run to start his current tenure (wouldn't mine Woody having something similar for his first 4/5 seasons or until he moves on), and the other has a few Sweet 16s in the last couple of seasons. So just like my other post, I would be perfectly happy with Woody stabilizing the program over the next handful of years before passing it on to the next coach to take us to the next level. I'm not sure expecting to finish towards the top of the Big 1.o each year and making the tourney is that high of expectations. I guess we could just keep reducing expectations until us just putting a team on the court would result in a packed Assembly Hall. I'm sure the administration would be happy with this. Besides, it doesn't really matter what the coach does/doesn't do it's the fans fault we can't recruit the needed players.

I believe our 4 and 5 will get a combined 21/11 but probably in over 50 minutes. I do hope we snag a few good small wings in the portal to transition to a different offense. As it stands, we should at least be able to open up the lane a bit with Ware, Reneau, and Sparks being able to step out and not being as dominant as TJD 1' from the rim.

You do realize how ignorant this stance continues to be right? Have fans turned on Woody so we should see the recruiting go down now? It could be argued the recruiting has been decent to good the last decade but the coaching hasn't gotten it done. The 2022-23 Hoosiers had as much or more talent than the majority of teams in the Big 1.o even without XJ. What fans can do: - get behind the program - cheer for the team when there is something to cheer for - be fanatical about the program - be complete idiots sending players/coaches messages (although the program has the ability to control this) What the coach can do: - recruit players to build a complete team - instill leadership and demand leadership/effort from his players - decide who plays dependent on leadership/effort/ability - determine style of play I wonder which has a bigger impact on recruiting. Surely it's the fans that have the least impact. Could us recycling coaches have anything to do with their actions or are they just poor victims with multi-million dollar contracts not getting the job done?

It was seeking understanding by the term competing. I associate the word with conference titles, Final Fours/nattys, or competing within a game. I would agree we were competing with being better than the previous season despite the hype and penning of a conference championship and Sweet 16 last summer. We didn't actually compete to hang anything in the Hall last season. Even without knowing the entire roster my expectation for next season is not taking a step back. That can be different for different people. Unlike some, the Woody experiment can be a success if he stabilizes the program with good finishes in the Big 1.o, tourney appearances, and the program not falling off a cliff. Hopefully this puts IU in a much better place next time we go searching for a coach.

Where was I trying to start a debate? There is nothing to debate. If we're playing the game I'm happy we finally started competing. We could probably slap a name on it and say we're the first to do it so the fan base will get stoked about it.

So in that hypothetical it's cheating if another program does it to our players but we're good doing it to other programs. That puts a neat little bow on the topic.

It's not cheating if they've entered the draft process but if they haven't entered the draft it's cheating?

What do 6'7" centers from almost 40 years ago or a 6'4" wing from 20+ years ago have to do with the 2023-24 Hoosiers? Maybe we should look at something recently or we could continue to live in the glory days. Height isn't the end all be all at any position. Give me a slightly "shorter" player with a longer wingspan that has a great feel for the game. You have point guard skills or you don't, big man skills or not, big/small wing skills or not. You can play or you can't. 6'4" on the wing is nothing in college ball if they can get it done.

Wasn't this what Ya or Rosemond or one of the assistants was just talking about on someone's podcast or something? This would be cheating right? I'm sure we'd never do this.

I think I'm tracking on what you're saying here. I believe the path for the men's program to return to elite status is to get solid to good players with the right attitude and willingness to put in the work to win as a team. I don't think IU or Bloomington can attract the type of elite players that other programs can in its current construct. I highly doubt we'd be willing to do what it takes to be a basketball destination in today's environment.

Definitely a solid season, a T2 finish in a decent Big 1.o, another semi-final appearance in the conference tourney, and a win in the first round of the tourney. We hadn't made it to back to back tourneys in 10 years. It's amazing when you really look at what IU has been the past two decades.

Someone has to guard the chairs. Are you thinking a gold medal?

Could you imagine how many championships the NCAA would have to hand out annually if injuries weren't part of the game?

Loved the spacing and pacing, transition was great, and defense left a lot to be desired. I didn't like that we were turrrrble against certain types of teams or would just fall flat in half court sets at times. I was hoping we'd see a more dynamic offense under Woody.

Good description, was having a difficult time describing the differences. I don't think Zeisloft was even that wiggly or slippery either it's just that Kopp stood there a good portion of the time. I didn't like that we were so reliant on the 3 but didn't like that we basically never shot it this past season. There is a balance for the season, game to game, and even within a game.
