Strengths:

  1. Rebounding: Coach Crean during media availability yesterday said the following: "Very, very physical. Relentless on the glass, Outrebounding teams by +17, +18. Wake Forest is large on the front line starting Mitoglou at 6’10”, Thomas 6’9” and McClinton 6’7”.
  2. Getting to the Free Throw Line: Coach Crean also during his media availability shed light on how aggressive and physical Wake Forest is on the offensive end of floor with the following comment: “Shooting almost 34 free throws per game." Coach Manning from Wake Forest reiterated his team’s ability to get to the free throw line: "Any team I coach we're going to throw the ball inside. I'm a big guy," Manning said. "Our philosophy is built around inside-out basketball. We're going to try to collapse the defense and then kick it back out from there." The sample size is small at only 3 games thus far but Wake Forest is going to get the ball inside to their bigs or try to draw fouls by driving to the basket.

Weaknesses:

  1. Valuing the basketball: Wake Forest last time out in their loss at home to Richmond committed 20 turnovers. This is due to inexperience at the guard position with Crawford and Wilbekin still being relatively young (Freshman and Sophomore), as well as an injury to the team’s leading returning scorer, Codi Miller-McIntyre (14.5 ppg last season). Currently as a team Wake Forest has 40 assists compared to 45 turnovers.
  2. Outside Shooting: Currently Wake Forest as a team is shooting 14-47 from the 3 point line which is a 2 9.8% rate. Due to the injury of Miller-McIntyre and the inexperience of Crawford and Wilbekin don’t expect Wake Forest to light the Hoosiers up from the 3 point line, considering their philosophy is to get the ball inside the paint.

Season Outlook:

The Demon Deacons were selected 11th in the ACC during the poll of media attending ACC Basketball Pre-Season Meetings; last season Wake Forest finished 12th in the ACC last season at 5-13.

Wake Forest has two of the six active 1,000 point career scorers in the ACC: Codi Miller-McIntyre (1,112 points) and Devin Thomas (1,085 points), to be noted Codi Miler-McIntyre is currently injured and will not play against the Hoosiers.

Wake Forest returns 13 letter winners from last year’s squad that account for a majority of the 2014-15 production:

  • Wake Forest returns 80% (128 of 160) of its starts in 2014-15
  • Wake Forest return 73.9% (4,785 of 6,475) of their minutes
  • Wake Forest return 80.1% (1,770 of 2,209) of their scoring
  • Wake Forest return 72.3% (868 of 1,200) of their rebounding
  • Wake Forest return 69.4% (313 of 451) of their assists
  • Wake Forest return 83.0% (171 of 206) of their 3-pointers
