Hoo's Next: Chicago State Style
Chicago State comes with a balanced offensive attack. Although it's not a potent attack, the Cougars return 4 of their top 5 scorers from last season. Quinten Pippen (10.4 PPG) and Matt Ross (10.1 PPG) are the only two that averaged double digits last season. The Cougars, unlike the Hoosiers are very seasoned. They have a roster full of Seniors which means they'll have composure and the patience needed to slow down the Hoosiers early.
Defensively, Chicago State plays a lot of man defense just like the majority of college basketball teams. But I can't say I would be entirely surprised if they come out and play some zone defense early. The last time I watched Chicago State in Assembly Hall they wanted to run as much as the Hoosiers did. But I'll bank on some zone defense to keep the scoring margin as close as possible for as long as possible. The magic number for the Cougars would have to be about 60-65 points if they want a chance.
We will be able to see how the Hoosiers have adjusted from Monday night's performance against Hillsdale College. The keys for the Hoosiers to come out victorious, will be transition offense, limiting turnovers, and the three ball. If the Cougars play some zone defense, which I suspect they will, someone from IU will have to step up and shoot them out of that zone.
Finally, we get to see the new look Hoosiers in a meaningful game on Friday night!
