    A Transfer Coming?

IUBB vs Rutgers Game Thread 1/15 7 pm BTN Loaded Chicken Sandwich replied to mamasa's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball I wish we would have keptClifton ------------------------------- So are you going to try and play word salad? Or are you in the practice of wishing we would keep players we wouldn't miss? You can't even keep track of the crap you say.

We will pull through this so an interesting topic we could discuss would be what industry groups ie stocks should rock when this is over. I think there’s going to be a lot of changes. We are educated people and of course very opinionated so, what say you all? What stocks are going to kick @$$? Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners

    Coronavirus and Its Impact

That sounds scary (US is on a steep curve) but what does that mean? The fact is COVID -19 is only dangerous to the old and infirm. That isn't good news, but also isn't a reason to panic and institute draconian measures like the ridiculous "shelter in place." Children are basically immune to it, so our efforts should be on protecting those that are vulnerable (again ONLY the old and immuno-compromised) and definitely NOT pretending it's the black plague and everyone is equally at risk. Most of what we hear and see is hysteria and fear-mongering. Look at the facts and it's a LOT less scary. Over-reacting is the greatest danger, IMO. Fear is much more contagious than COVID-19 and has a greater potential for harm. We've already damaged our economy enormously and if you think that doesn't impact people's lives and health you aren't paying attention. Second, the restrictions are creating the possibility of damaging our supply lines for food, etc. Not because people are sick, but because of the artificial constraints in place. If store shelves are empty there will be civil unrest. Once that begins all bets are off. Fortunately, I don't believe those things will happen. I believe in 2-3 weeks the truth will become obvious (there won't be millions of corpses lying in the streets or even overwhelmed hospitals) and normalcy will slowly resume.

We need more trained workers too. I am in sales and call on large manufacturers and when I ask them what their #1 challenge is (before the virus) finding workers. I expect we will see an even greater manufacturing surge once this is done but we will need to resolve the worker shortage Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

    Coronavirus and Its Impact

It is amazing to me how quickly many countries are creatively resolving some problems with this. We are only still barely 2 months removed from when this was not considered to be contagious (according to the WHO). Yet I have a friend who got tested last week and is waiting on results but less than a week later we can have results for some in less than an hour. GM and Tesla are retooling operations so that they can now create ventilators. Others are doing the same with masks. I read somewhere that S Korea was hit hard by SARS and that fueled many of the things that helped them in this crisis. We are going to learn from this crisis to help prepare for the next crisis. There are certainly some things we could have done better but things like this are hard to plan for. Trying to resolve them on the fly as we have has been impressive. Haha! Columbus is a cool town but the campus is really ugly. We are so spoiled by our beautiful limestone castles here. And the modern buildings aren’t all bad except for Ballantine which is an eyesore and should be torn down and the godawful Satanic stairs stricken from all records and memory.

Indiana has apparently reached out to Justin Turner from Bowling Green? Maybe? Would be a grad transfer. 6-4 guard that averaged 18.8 points and shot 36% from and 85% from the free throw line. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

That comes with making manufacturing cool in the high schools and to parents. If it’s viewed as a growing and prosperous industry and not one subject to outsourcing, the workers will be there.

    1) The blitzing of ball screens by our bigs was the absolute worst. Michigan, with a rookie coach, just abused that. I was really upset about that as well, and completely agree with you. Very happy that adjustment was made, but disappointed that it had to be. 2) We are getting plenty of perimeter help. Leal can flat stroke it. Lander is a really solid shooter. Geronimo can shoot it. And I'm also betting Phinisee, Franklin, and especially Hunter really show their ability to shoot it as well. That Hunter has 3 more years left excites the hell out of me. Did you know Indiana was actually 12 made three's away from being in the top 100 in the country by %? I saw that the other day and it floored me. 3) Missed shots were a huge problem all season. Good Lord, had Indiana made just a few of them, the record would have been 3-4 games better at least. Sometimes the eyeball test is different than the numbers, and I think that's the case here. In any case, the team has improved every year under Archie and recruiting is just fine. I'm bullish, even if we're not "there" yet.

    Dakich under investigation

Dakich is the guy who railed against grad transfers being guys who quit on their programs and the practice shouldn't allowed. The one exception, of course, was when his kid did it. The reality is he is the type of parent he rails against,

We've already heard from mamasa that he's been confirmed with the virus but is beginning to feel better although still quarantined in his own home. Let me share another story of this damn virus and its impact. I buried my 96-year old dementia stricken mother this morning; her death unrelated to the virus; her heart just decided to call its final timeout. But regardless of the official cause of her death, dementia is every bit as cruel of a disease as are physical diseases such as cancer, etc. She was born and spent her entire life in a small town (1,000 people) in northern Indiana. Worked in the local bank for 30 years; township advisory board 20 years; library board; active in her church; you name it and she was likely involved. Those of you who grew up in similar small towns know how close knit they are. Because of the virus, there are no visitations at funeral homes. Immediate family only for a private service and then whisk the body off to the cemetery for burial. I've not lived there for 50 years, and there was no opportunity to re-connect or hear stories about my mother from those who were involved with her in her many activities. Economic losses are not the only damage this sh** is causing.

    A Transfer Coming?

Minutes played by guards last year Durham 846 Green 642 Phinisee 626 Franklin 441 Anderson 223 If Damezi transfers, that frees up 865 minutes. Over a 32 game span, that's 27 minutes per game. Durham's minutes may drop a little but not that much.

Completely agree. Again, assuming no major or unexpected changes, next year is about being a real, consistent threat in the conference. Like you said, maybe not competing to win it outright, though who knows if Lander is able to product right off the bat and we're healthy, but most likely being somewhere in that 3-5 range IMO would be a really nice step forward.

You can't really use the tournament as a barometer, at least at this point. There are too many variables and unknowns. What if we win 23 games, lose in the first round of the BTT but then make a Sweet Sixteen? Are you firing him? What if they win 26 games, lose in the BTT Final and then lose in the 2nd round of the NCAA? Firing him? What if they win 21 games, win 2 BTT games and then make an Elite run? Are you firing him? Does he have to hit all of your criteria? Just one? 2 out of 3? What Archie needs to do is continue to show progress and improvement. The team has improved every season under Archie, though I fully admit the improvements have been incremental, with no huge leaps. I do agree it is time, especially if you have the bulk of the roster (including TJD) returning and you're adding a kid like Lander for a more substantial leap. But to put actual win parameters (25 games, specific # of tournament wins, etc.) is setting yourself up to paint yourself into a corner. Continued improvement and progress is what Archie needs to do.
